For decades I have been saying that the Portland Trail Blazers have been ripping off the logos from 25 seconds to about 50 seconds. The Blazers started in 1970 and that Screen Gems logo was in the 1960s so you know the Blazers ripped it off.
The Screen Gems logo sounded too much like the NBC logo. The 1977-86 Columbia logo and theme was the best. In 2002 the Sony logo sounds WAY to much like an old Universal there.
When I first found this upload, it had been at least 15 years since I saw the logo on tv when I was 6. Now that I was able to look at more details, I was 'afraid' I had found out that there was no torch, but the light was just the sun in the black sky like seen from space or the moon. And the statue's hand was empty, just in the air pointing out the background like a beautiful lady statue in front of a beautiful background. But I like the torch better. I'd like a duplicacy of this pic in person.
I have some wonderful and scary memories about our beloved torch lady she scares me sometime but she was beautiful she kinda reminds me of my mom she beautiful too, oh i remember when i sick it was a Tuesday when came home from school the year was 1986 i was watching "Who's The Boss" when show the ended i saw Columbia Pictures i puked. Yeah eww, but my grandmother was there to rinse out the bucket oh those were some bad times, but whitin a day was i was all better and that was my story see ya.
@youngmatthew1197 omg i had a nightmare about the torch lady when i was like 4 years old in i think 96' or 97'. my mom used to watch days of our lives and the columbia logo was at the end of every episode and i always tried to leave the room or close my eyes and ears when it came on, haha.
@mattiek93 I used to run out of the room and hide if I saw a show that had the old Columbia Sunburst logo, the 1982 CPT Torch lady and the 1988 Torch lady.
@odog65 That was for a show called Beakman's World an educational children's television show produced by ELP Communications, Columbia Pictures Television, Universal Belo Productions, and Columbia TriStar Television Distribution. Starring Paul Zaloom, Mark Ritts, Alanna Ubach, Eliza Schneider, Senta Moses and was on the air from 1992 to 1997 in both cable and CBS.

1:19 - 1:53 I used to have crazy dreams through this music a long time ago. I even envisioned COLUMBIA then *move camera stage right* see a collie on a tiny planet before blacking out and it loops again.
@offcampusstudent1993 Warner Bros didn't, Columbia TriStar Television did own the american copyright of the show, also because the copyright portion said @ Copyright 1998 Columbia TriStar Television and Teletoon International All Rights Reserved, and it's also the author of the film/motion picture for purposes of Article 15(2) of the Berne Convention and all national laws giving effect thereto.
The Logo at 1:19, I made a flipnote of it, except the Torch Lady ended up firin' her lazer at the end of the logo! How come nobody ever does a Shoop Da Whoop of Famous logos?
columbia and TriStar are actually like Disney/Pixar TriStar was going to die so Sony (AKA Columbia) bought them out and to this day their contract stil states that TriStart can leave at any time. The same is true with Disney/Pixar. Pixar can leave at anytime.
Yes, obviously. They did own the whole of Columbia Pictures from 1982-1989. That alone also led to Coke buying out Merv Griffin's company in late 1986, and Embassy Pictures/Television in 1985.
Good clip but what about the version of the Torch Lady that appeared at the beginning of "A Man Called Flintstone"? Wilma Flintstone as The Torch Lady!
I like the CPT logo from the late 70's...it's the one I remember the most growing up watching Fantasy Island, Family, and what's happening, & charlie's angels.
Whats happenin? hey hey hey....on channel 5 KTLA in the late 80s and the early90s they stil had the tv shows playin with that coca cola unit stuff the logo
Call me crazy, but I like the jingle during the S from Hell logo, though I like the pretzel logo as well. My favorite of the jingles, though, has to be the one between 1:02 and 1:19. I remember seeing those logos on tv growing up, and though I've seen most of the ones that followed as well, the jingle from the times mentioned is my favorite mainly because it's the first Columbia jingle I remember. Nostalgia counts for a lot with me.
One of my favorite logos in this video is the Sony, and the Torch Lady with the Tristar, & The Pretzel logo of CTP. The worse one is the S from hell and the 1970 Columbia logo before the Torch Lady logo.
don't listen to gameshowfan1999. he is a cyber bully who tried to bring me down. he doesn't know me very well and besides he either needs to go to the psyco ward or to the local police for cyber bully and it's illegal.
The one at 1:19 is the one I grew up with and i remember it very well. I like the most recent logo and music the best. It looks nicer and the music isn't scary.
The Tri-Star Pegasus I thought was the most beautiful studio logo. I remember the first time I saw it at the theater I thought it was a preview for a new movie featuring a pegasus! LOL! I miss the horsie.
I think the first one was used at the end of the early Father Knows Best eps. The second one with the first torch lady is from the Three Stooges when they came to televsion in the late 50's. Now when they show the Stooges on TV, they don't use that one anymore. And the earlier poster is right, the latest Sony Pictures logo does suck. Although I haven't seen it used very much yet.
The logo at 21 seconds looks like it should have been (was?) used after Bewitched. The style of the letters looks similar to what you'd see during Bewitched's cartoon intro. Every time I have watched Bewitched in syndication, thought, they always use the yellow/orange "S From Hell". Anyone know anything else about this script logo?
It was used on "Bewitched," as well as most Screen Gems shows from 1963 to 1965 when the "S From Hell" logo replaced it! When "Bewitched" went into syndication in 1968, the "dancing sticks" of the 1964-65 season disappeared and were replaced by the newer logo.
They bought Columbia in 1982 under the unsuccessful guidance of producer David Puttman("Chariots of Fire"). Then, about 4 years later, they sold it to producer Norman Lear("All in the Family")who had bought Embassy Communications around the same time. Lear merged Embassy with Columbia then, sometime in the '90s,Sony bought the company.
Columbia pictures is the worst studio logo ever created. No wonder most of the movies, studio, tech, vice versa is going down under. Tri-Star is a million times cooler. Columbia pictures has the worst music which cud frighten everyone.
No, there are other studio logos way more unimaginative than Columbia's. United Artists' is a good example. I'm glad they brought back the Columbia lady after so many years of using that cold, antiseptic modern art Screen Gems logo. The lady and the Tri-Starlogos are good paintings reminiscient of the best work from European Renaissance artists.
It is notable to mention that Screen Gems is was resurrected in 1999 and still uses the same "S from Hell" Logo(as some people call it). Only now it is modernized with black and silver coloration. Heres an article from Wikipedia:
"Similar to Dimension Films, Screen Gems produces and releases smaller-budget science fiction, horror, teen movies, farce or ethnic films with more centralized target audiences than Columbia TriStar's mainstream outputs".
Yeah, it's interesting that Screen Gems has "gone back to the past," in order to go forward. During the late '50's and early 60's, Columbia produced a lot of low budget sci-fi, horror, teen and farce movies.
The Screen Gems logo with the Columbia Pictures byline probably appeared on the first season of "Police Story" and the final season of "The Partridge Family".
i doubt very seriously that eric siday knew when he created the screen gems-c.t.p. music in the late 60's that we'd be discussing how creepy the music is 40 years later. some things become classic over time.
I remember when one of these themes was played on "Parker Lewis Can't Lose," just funny. I think they are missing some logos from the late 60s and early 70s. And I wonder who that ColPic lady is.

The current Sony Television logo sucks.

It's not really relevant to this montage, but in general I miss the restful sounding Machine Head jingle used on C-T Home Entertainment DVD releases.

I miss the 70's logos they were great
I'm dissapointed that there were none of the 90's logo's with Charlie O Donnell (Wheel of Fortune Announcer)s voice at the end.
I wonder if the fast version of the current logo was from Blood + the anime series.

The Screen Gems logo with the Columbia Pictures byline probably appeared on the first season of "Police Story" and the final season of "The Partridge Family".

Is it just me or is the Tri-Star music and the Sony Pictures Television music sounds almost alike?

i doubt very seriously that eric siday knew when he created the screen gems-c.t.p. music in the late 60's that we'd be discussing how creepy the music is 40 years later. some things become classic over time.

I remember when one of these themes was played on "Parker Lewis Can't Lose," just funny. I think they are missing some logos from the late 60s and early 70s. And I wonder who that ColPic lady is.
