  • Tommy is a long, long time hero of mine. Richard should be. I just haven’t known him as long. Wish I did. I’m wearing out YouTube catchin’ up fast as I can. What an exquisite guitar pair...

  • fucking hell

  • You're witnessing the BEST Of GUITAR PLAYERS

  • Richard is AMAZING... Wauh... He's the star

  • tommy improvices a solo. Richard is playing the main theme of the song..

  • and the cowboy say ¡¡¡¡yeeeeeehaw!!!!!

  • Could you imagine after all the years of hard work practicing, playing, learning, performing that one day you get a chance to be on stage with Tommy? Actually watching these two is great! Look at Tommy, looking over to Richard when he plays... Even he is enjoying this... Of course Tommy always enjoys every note that comes out of an acoustic guitar. Thank God for that. Who needs drugs when you have this?

  • both are gurus,,,,,

  • 0.55 ........Tom & Jerry : D

  • Look at tommy, always laughing and moving and talking... Richard Smith sure is good but he seems to sweat lol, like he has 10 times as much problems :p

  • That was EPIC!!

  • Wow, Jerry's breakdown is so popular :D

  • Show some respect and listen to the music.

  • All the critics of RS on this vid tend to forget, or didn't know, that a steel strung acoustic is not really his forte.

Give Tommy a nylon strung and ask him to play at this pace with accuracy and clarity.

Only one of them can do that, and it is RS.

It's different strokes, for different folks.

Both excel at what they do.

    Leave them be, without comparison.

They are enjoying their respective talents.

    Who are we to judge?

  • Tommy is one of those performers who make it look easy. Richard is his equal in ability no question he just looks like he's concentrating more. In skill there is nothing to choose between them in my opinion. It's Just that Tommy is such a friggin larakin showman! What is most enjoyable here is the appreciation one has for the other and the magic in the music. I actually don't care which of them is considered top dog. It doesn't matter. But you should all see Tom play with his brother Phil!!!

  • GREAT !!!!

  • Awesome

  • Wohooooooooooooo!!!!

  • Brining the heat!!

  • I would pay BIG money to listen to this duet all day long. FanTAStic!!!!!

  • how does tommy not go through guitars like toilet paper?

  • acoustic shredders!

  • I have just discovered richard's playing and think he is a musician at the top of his game, full stop. It is not like supporting a football team and the music should be there to appreciate and credit given to the individuals involved who contribute to it. Reading between the lines I feel there is a competitive edge to these two when they play together, but I think they sound great! Check out their performance in scotland!

  • Almost as good as original - Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed. Well, it might be played even with more virtuosity, but some how, this looks-sounds like show off, while Chet/Jerry were more genuine. But do not get me wrong, Tommy/Richard are phenomenal guitarists. GREAT PICKING!!!

  • So anyway It aint a competition. these are two of the finest guitarists in the world. Just listen !

  • Richard and Tommy are colleagues - you music lovers do a disservice to Tommy and yourselves when you berate a gifted, beloved musician like Richard Smith.

  • Yeah, Smith has to work a little to play in Tommy's league - BUT - he CAN do it!

His style is not as 'cool' as Tommy's, I'd agree. BUT he can play in TOMMY's league!

A little nerdy, I'd trade looking 10X as nerdy for being able to play half as well. And, he can PLAY in Tommy's league. Damn few can. Can you?

You point out that Tommy is enjoying himself. Yup. He is in actually getting to play with someone in his own league - we would all agree that it doesn't happen very often.

  • Yeah, yeah, yeah !

  • I think Tommy is having just a little too much fun. hehe. This IS great, I don't blame him. Thank you Gentlemen for the joy of your music...LOVE IT~*

  • wow they am covering 4 guitar hand playrs or something ^^ amazing!

  • Tommy kicks his ass

  • These two guys are my favourit guitar players ever !!!!

  • Hands down the best cover of this I have ever seen. It has Tommy in it for one thing and this Richard Smith cat kicks ass! Added to favoites for sure!

  • Stunning!

  • Just the best!

  • WOW! This is excellent!!

  • richard is sweating his ass off haha and tommy stands there laughing and having fun lol,..

  • @Analist Ye hehe :)

I dont know if you can see, but I can see in this video that Tommy is definitely the more pro of them.

Also because of the fact, that Richard was frightened to play a solo :)

  • @UserIbanez you can call it pro but i think it's just his talent, you cant learn to play like TOmmy even if you practise your whole life you need to have so much talent for that.

  • @UserIbanez this is the arrangement that they worked up. I've seen it a few times. I've seen them jam on many songs where Richard takes insane solos and keep right up with Tommy. On this song it makes a nice concise arrangment and doesn't get into a bluegrass/gypsy jazz type guitar war...

  • @guitarpro3367 Hmmm...you think that this guy can take up with Tommy?

I don't think so at all. Just watch again this video. The left guy looks like a pro and the right guy looks like a fat nerd, though he does his job well. But compared to the left guy, it looks stupid. And I'm not a Tommy Emmanuel fan:)

And believe me, Richard thinks exactly the same...it's obvious when you watch the video.

  • @Analist retard they have obviously rehearsed this

  • @chris69666 wow easy on the compliments,...let me quess you must be a fan of richard :p

  • @Analist No, I'm a TE fan that has just discovered RS recently. From what I see on YT, TE has chosen to play a lot with RS over the last few years, so TE's opinion of him must be quite high.

Some of the YT clips do show a more laid back RS, but I suspect that he just not as laid back as TE, neither by nature nor nurture (see early clips of TE & PE, for example).

RS's 'Happy Blues' clip, for example, is more relaxed. Playing with TE could be stressful!, even for RS !

  • @Analist why dont you just get an electric guitar with distortion or whatever and play it already

  • @chris69666 & others: Hey, from what I see & read, TE is a class act thru & thru. If we here do appreciate TE, I'd like to see us respect his class & not put down all other players, call each other retards, etc. I very much doubt that he finds encouragement or support from us dissing … anyone, really. Let's have a little respect for the man & pull up our socks.

  • @Analist your tag name says it all... go way... don't come back! jack!

  • @Analist you want to know the reason why this is so? Because Tommy Emmanuel is a real pro. The other guy is definitely a good player, but thats it!

  • @UserIbanez Other guy's a real pro - Tommy's an anomaly :-) Seriously though, the scene is littered with folks who manage to earn a living, even a respectable one, without having an ounce of charisma or stage presence. I'm actually glad to say that (from my humble experience) it is *not* a requirement. You can be a welcome addition to the music business without being the life-of-the-party.

  • @Analist It's not like that i think, this is the first time I see Tommy enjoyed his play with someone else like that...Richard Smith is just as crazy as Tommy..They both amazing

  • @Analist That's because even though some people can almost do what Tommy does, they do it with thirty times the effort.

  • @Analist - that's because fat people sweat a LOT more... Look around you and observe.

  • @Analist Compare the part Richard is playing with Tommy's part! Nevertheless, both awesome!

  • both these guys make it look soo easy, great stuff

  • Tommy makes it look sooooo easy... =)

  • Amazing solo from Tommy here!
