  • Thats not the stage at PW. But Nice curtains. Farner did play the whole night shirtless. Great shots and too see these really bring back the memories.White coil cords... PriceLess. I still live in Hollywood and think about PW when passing what left of it. No more Land craps. GFR Had Funk Soul and Balls.

  • CLASSICO

  • ta muy chido

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWSSSSSSSSOME

  • I saw them in South Bend, Indiana...best show I ever saw!

  • If you worked at Pirates World and worked the day of the concert, rock shows were free. If it was your day off, tickets were $4. My brother Ronnie Simeone got my brother Bobby and I tickets and ohhhhhhhyeahhhh!!!!

    Far far out!!!

  • I worked at Pirates World and was at this show

  • "Just" an american band presenting a hard overpowering on stage. Feel the pulsation of the bass of Mel Schacher. The drums of Don Brewer seems like the seventh regiment of the cavalry. The bleeding guitar of Mark Farner.

    And the voices.. Wow!

And today is the day to pay homage: this show does exactly 42 years.

    Cheers!

  • I was a kid I remember pirates world my sister took me to a band I think GFR. Pirates world was the place back then I remember a little girl being bit by a rattle snake. WOW alot of years have gone by. The land crabs that covered sheridan st back then... Good memories

  • 2012 internet lenta

vai se foder tecnologia de merda

  • this was a classic period for them,i dont know why they tinkered with the style

  • since when did alex lifeson start singing?

  • Best 3 member band, ever!

  • Marks gettin' off at about 7:00

  • I believe I saw this video at the end of some Rolling Stones movie in the early 70's. I remember the curtain and kicka*s performance!

  • 1:46 Can't stop my head banging !!!!!!

  • I love the B side of the album Are you ready! About 30 minutes of Into the sun in 33rpm

  • A WAH WAH pedal and the rest is pure amp adjustments! Mark got a lot of sound out of that guitar, kinda like Jimi. Fantastic!!!

  • geniales¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • Johnin Funk, God bless u... thnx man...

  • amazing

  • This is rock and not like the shit that bands play now days.I just wish i would have had the chance to see see them live. (Best Band EVER) Fuck the rolling stone!!!! this is the real deal!!!!!!!!!

  • a great band that should be brought to life..... we miss the grand funk .. for a 3 pc band they kicked butt and some... ahead of their time ..

  • look kids theyve got there guitars pluggedin,to actual amplifiers.

  • @gedsace If more bands did this today at small venues, instead of into the PA, they would sound better!

  • This just goes to show, there’s nothing cooler than a white curly Q guitar cable. Especially when it’s plugged into Mel’s bass.

  • This song is sooo amazing! Long live Flint!

  • Fucking awesome!

  • seem them in mobile in 1973 i was 16 best years of my life

  • VERY Nice re-edit..Great quaity..love it!!

  • Such a badass jam

  • kick ass gfr , all i listend to in 70's . well deep purple was involved too . both bands had kick ass drummers is why i liked . but gfr was thee drug

  • This is when Rock was ROCK!

  • Looks like Mark was a fitness freak--pretty low body fat.

  • One of the best Funk jams!

  • and Led Zeppelin manager shut them off when they supported to them Once ! as the crowd were going nuts and they had top billing !!!

  • and they hung it on him because he played a guitar that cost $200 ?

  • Just say no to drugs!

  • increible mucha gracias!!!!!! regards

  • Why cant Don and Mel be cool like this again...this is the REAL DEAL, sorry, but without Mark they really are not GFR. Mel had some cool expressions...what a great bassist and Don was amazing too, but somewhere down the line they screwed it all up!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is the best GFR live I have seen...where is the rest of the concert??

    Mark Farner was epic...

  • @Whitevaliantwarrior Just saw this today and can't believe it , just fu&$in' great, this is as good of a jam as it ever gets......

  • I would love to hear this remastered.

  • one of god's ambassadors(mark farner)

  • Thank you poster! Youve gotta stop and think aside from Zep, Cream, Hendrix and a small handful of others how many bands in the late 60s were balls out hard rock, distorted guitar. Very few! They were pioneers and Yes! people they were a FUCKING AMERICAN BAND in an English dominated industry.

  • @icabodcranium Not quite. The so-called British Invasion was long over by this time. British bands could still chart, just as they are free to today. But, most of the Top 40 were U.S. bands. Get an old Billboard from this time frame and see who was charting. And don't argue, Junior.... I'm old enough to be your grandfather. I was there.

  • @mnpd007 Really! I wasnt talking about Top 40. I was talking about Hard Rock. I find it hard to believe Into the Sun was in the Top 40. After they went bubble gum, loco-motion sure, right up there with the partridge family. I Respect that you were there and my question is what other American bands of this calliber were there in the late 60s. Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Lord Sutch,The Who. A few more bands but all British ,PAPA !

Know what your arguing about first!

  • MArk Farner! A god!

  • FIVE STARS XXXXX

  • wow..great!

  • just came across this group. fanatastic music, awsome

  • just came across this group. fanatastic, awsome

  • Love grand funk, cant stand it when people put ridiculous stuff over a concert footage

  • GFR is MD&M

  • The only "natural high" I ever got (apart from after a hard bike ride) was listening to the live version of this song. "Space Trucking" was a close second (or was that third?).

  • I was at the show at Pirates World....this was not recorded at Pirates World

  • @bob19724

You probably attended the 1971 show(s) at the Pirates. You lucky....

  • I was there! Oh yeah Pirates World rocked!!!! Chamber Bros. the following weekend if memory serves me right.

  • thanks for posting - still like 'em

  • Mark Farner is a god amongst men.

  • Three guys, no computers, drum triggers, loops etc... AND white phone cords-holy shit! This is how it should be done!

  • @occams99 I love me some coil cords, they're old school COOL!

  • Grand Funk IS NOT Grand Funk without Mark Farner Don and Mel you guys SUCK!!! This is how Grand Funk Railroad should be remembered., NOT this lame imitation that's touring the country. I got ripped off when I went to see them last year. Thanks for posting this truley GREAT video!!!!

  • Thanks to my father I appreciate Grand funk. Love their style. The are meant to be played loud and raw! Love em!

  • bad ass!!

  • so if there was only 1 camera, how do you explain the jump edit clip @ 1:46? and then at 1:54? and then.... c'mon..now.

  • Pirate's World Amusement Park?!? Was this before or after the puppet show? No offense... I love GFR amazing video quality

  • now if they had Keith Moon on drums, holy crap!

  • Definitely the best band ever.. Now looking back at those years.. I would venture they were the first to be true Heavy metal style band.. The best years i thought was 1968-1972...

  • Perhaps the best band ever..

  • i was expecting the guitar to burst into flames at any moment due to friction it was amazing the thing kept tune

  • I remember when I was 16 years (1972), Grand Funk were very popular in Italy too and I liked them a lot. Now I am 54 years and I still like the Grand Funk by Michele (Italy)

  • Why this song is one of my favorite songs of all time? I find it rather structurally unique! Good use of both melody and rhythm!

  • Still hard for me to believe Mel is ONLY 18 here! He looks like he's 38! I've never seen an older looking teenager in my life!

  • great great quality, this one goes to my videos folder!thks

  • this clip will go to my compilation of greatest videos never released.. 10 quality 10 raritie 10 performance

  • For those music fans out there that never knew how brilliant Grand Funk Railroad was, here is the proof.

  • Brilliant, genious.

  • thanks Dogheadj3.

Acually I discovered that Mark is using a 1967 Messenger made by Musicraft Inc., now is a tribute model available made by Eastwood Guitars.

Sound great (at least in Marks hands) & looks great.

    GFR4ever

  • Does anyone know what is the brand and/or specs , of Mark Farner's guitar used in this video is ?

  • @mgdriver1000 Looks like it could be an Eastwood Messenger.

  • Raw, simple, and edgy.

    Perfect !!

  • classico

  • this is like one of the greatest performences have ever seen!mostly cause of mark farner

  • @CVAN687478 Those are keystone badges on those LUDWIGS.I aught to know because thats what I drive for a drum set.Rogers were great too tho. This tune just puts me in the float!

  • So raw and vintage! Chills ran down my back. WOW!

  • the best band of 1970 and one of the best bands of all time.

  • One of the first Albums I bought as a kid and to this day I still love it ! they were without a doubt one of the best bands of our time, don't just listen to I'm you're Captain or Locomotion, those were just Radio Rock tunes, pick up the Red Album or the Live Album and get into the real shit , you'll never be the same. Thank You Mark Don and Mel...............by the way ' Who owns that Messenger now ? ( Marks Guitar )

  • Rodgers Drums & REMO heads

  • Find it...live it...could U tube bring music back?

  • Cover LOS DATSUN'S - HUANCAYO PERU

  • Grand Funk double live album was the first album I ever bought in 1971, and I lived across the river from where they were formed.

  • Top Notch! (11)

  • oh my ... i just felt my consciousness espand like tenfold... the soul, the soul...

  • thank you for posting this fantastic video of this, one of America's greatest rock bands ever!!

  • THIS IS AN AWESOME VIDEO!

  • Comment removed

  • Simply the badest band from that era...best live show ever and no band these days can be compared to the amazing energy of this group!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Best and badest live band ever...nobody rocks like this anymore...truely classic stuff!

  • Good GOD MAN!!!...Yeah I used to play a cover of this song...and I thought I had that lead down like some kinda PRO! ...But GOOD FREAKIN GRIEF MAN...did not Every Soul that watched this FEEL that POWER that GUT WRINCHING VIBE that was going on here!!! It's not how Technical a song is...it's all about Technique! Man!

  • La Zorra

  • For those criticizing the simplicity of the bass line and the entire groove...Hello? Do you not listen to blues? It's not about how many notes you play, it's about how you play them and the "feel" you give to a simple riff. Do we have to count how many out-freakin'-standing Howlin Wolf, John Lee Hooker, and Muddy Waters songs simply hang on the "one" chord in a I-IV-V blues progression? This utterly simple song is packed full of emotion and energy, and yet so technically simple to play.

  • JohninFunk, y ou sound like my X girlfriend. Have you been to thier concert.

  • audience heads!!!!

    ROFL

  • yea soy de mexico y esta es una de las mejores bandas del mundo que viva el rock

  • Nice Clip. i use to play this in my Rock Band in 1971. We did Into To The Sun, Heart Breaker, And their Version of Gimme Shelter from their Survival Album.

  • Love this song.

  • seems like back then the bass player had a lot more to learn and play than in our era with 4 notes on the whole song

  • Wow. That's about all I can say. Well, that and the fact that when I first heard/saw these guys back in the early 70's, I was very glad I had been born female!

  • Clasic GFR from their early n best period

In need live photoage would kill

  • chilli peppers ripped this band off so bad!

  • Don did not have many drums to work with.

  • awesome..i saw them in a casino in 90's they were like 1969 all over again..

    this is great

  • That guitar is sick! How do I get mine to sound fuzzy like that?

  • They put Abba in the rock hall but not these guys and not even Alice Cooper. The rock hall is a joke ! Power trios rule ! Turn up the volume to 11 !

  • wow,i remember this,but i seen different colors.

  • I absolutely love this band live. Great guitarist, fantastic bass player and excellent drummer. The best of all the Detroit rock bands. I love the song Paranoid....ear candy...

  • Now that's how a band should interact with eachother

  • What a blast from the past! Thanks !

  • outstanding bass

  • and modona is in the ROCK-N ROLL hall of fame and this BAND is not?!!!!!!!

  • @astonsfan the R n' Roll Hall of Fame is a big ole joke. It is absolutely terrible.

  • Wow.. Great performance.. not enough bands have this kind of energy anymore.. Mahalo for posting!

  • Heavy, rocking and worthy of the rock and roll hall of fame.

  • Thanks for the memories. They're great ones...

  • one of my all time favorites !

  • DAMN,they realy got down on that one!

  • GRAND FUNK IS NEXT FUCKING LEVEL

  • @nolanpotter1 I remember the Live album from this time period. Mark and Mel playing through those huge Fillmore West amp stacks. They got some pretty tough reviews; but, to a teenager in that time, I thought they were "the bomb".

  • Schacher, is still today my favorite bass player!

  • @FrediXFilms

Agreed! MONSTROUS bass tone. Infectious groove. Mel's West Avalon amps sound as if they're at critical mass! If I had one wish....It would be...to be transported back in time, so that I could sit in front of Mel's amps to allow him to rearrange my internal organs with that Distorted THUD. The best rock bass tone EVER.

  • @34vicker Schacher also plays like a god in "People let"s stop the war!"

  • Mels puffing away like a steak engine>>>fantastic

  • Hendrix is an other level

  • Like Hendrix, wild!

  • good tune.

  • one o f the best

  • Офигеть!!! Наконец-то живьём!!!!

  • Jeeze, I thought this looked familiar. This was the third concert I ever went to in the 7th grade. Mom & Dad dropped us off at Pirates World & picked us up after the show. I wonder if they smelled anything funny on our clothes, haha!

  • BRILLIANT SONG! i see why the song ended their concert records, another showstopper! the song is a frame, with a lot of GREAT, musical improvisation stretching it out; this could have been at least a half-hour long, imagine that!

i really like 06:16 to the end

  • Is this the rock group that ruled the concert venues for years? The group that sold millions of LP's? The same group that influenced thousands of wannabe rock bands to get it together? The same group that gets rejected year after year for the Hall of Fame?

Yeah, I think so. This is Grand Funk Railroad. Right?

Silly me for thinking this was some nobody band that never did squat.

    Phony rock hall anyway.

Thank you Mark, Don, & Mel.

    You guys really ruled!!!

  • This makes me miss that Messenger sound.

  • It had it's own funky sound!!!!

  • John is correct; this was Jan., 1970; Grand Funk did not form until the spring of 69 with first big show the Atlanta Pop fest in July of 69.

  • What about Mondo Daytona in 1968?

  • I'm sorry, but this looks before 1969. Look at the audience (the heads in the front at the beginning). They're not moving at all, like if it was something brand new to them.

I might be wrong though, I always like to make sure of timeline stuff.

  • Hi,

I'm just like you, always like making sure of timeline stuff, so to help you out I suggest you read one more time the description carefully. You'll the find the answers you're looking for. As for those "still heads" are actually "theatre stage lights"...

Please check more GFR videos here in my channel and you'll find some interesting info about The Group.

I'm always happy meeting new GFR fans.

    Keep Rockin'

  • @sinning1966 grand funk was an under ground rock group. did not get much radio play at all. but we caught on...

  • @sinning1966 You're right...they're "not moving at all," not like this was all so new to them, but like they're...not people's heads! Those objects remain absolutely immobile, which leads me to conclude they are some sort of stage equipment, either monitors, or stage footlights, or something else. This was obviously filmed in a small studio, and not in a club or arena anywhere, and there is an utter lack of audience noise, reaction, clapping, booing...anything.

  • @sinning1966 It's actually 1969 following their debut album.

  • This footage was made in spring 1968 (from the documentary Mondo Daytona). How early hark rock can be!
