  • Sandra Dee Lawson.

  • This wasn't a big hit in the USA but I vividly remember hearing it on the radio and really liking it. The harmonica, as well as "Ah, ah, ah!", remained firmly in my memory.

I saw a '60s German spy movie on TV in the early '70s and there was a scene in a sort of basement with girls in bondage, when the good guy broke in to save them. I think there was a discotheque in this building, which he had to run through initially, and this song was playing. But sung in German.

  • LOVE the Ikettes! Bonnie Bramlett was briefly one of them, in an afro wig wearing dark makeup.

  • wow the ikettes could have been as big as the supremes!

  • @jeminijemini They sure could have. Love this.

  • I love anti Motown ...! Motown was too slick in the record production side.... and the acts were over rehearsed

  • Why didn't Ike Turner allow the Ikettes to tour?

    I'm Curious

  • @Freyja1133 The Ikettes could tour as long as Ike was getting all their money. He paid them peanuts & fined them & the band if he didn't like anything (like being refused sex with him!). He had registered the Ikettes name so when 3 former Ikettes who were managed by Tina's sis tried to tour he got injunctions against them & got heavys to block theatres etc. The Mirettes were a way the girls got around this.

  • saw the ikettes years ago frenetic drugs ha ha ha ha

  • Classic tune from 1965 by the Ikettes, who backed up Ike And Tina Turner.

  • Very Motown sounding (LOVE IT!!!!) but could've been EASILY recorded by The Marvelettes or The Velvelettes.

  • The Ikettes sounded better on their own. IMHO

  • It's also a little bit like Needle in a Haystack by the Velvelettes (1964).

  • @nmclewis2 the only difference here is the harp( harmonica)

the velvelttes needle in a haystack is pure motown

  • It's also a little bit like Needle in a Haystack by the Velvelettes (1964).

  • Sounds like Donnie Elbert ripped off this rhythm for his 'Little Piece Of Leather'

  • In some ways this song reminds me of Bread And Butter by The Newbeats. However I prefer this tune. Haven't heard it since 1965.

  • @RoyFive I agree with you, same riff and beat. Check out "In the midnight hour" by the Mirettes...I think it's even better than this one.

  • My mama told me love Is not all sweet, uh huh She said, watch out for all The boys you meet, uh huh Cause someday, you`ll be on Your own two feet, uh huh But if you find The right boy to marry Life can be a bowl of cherries Like peaches and cream Don`t you know what I mean Ah, ah, ah, peaches Peaches and cream Ah, ah, ah, peaches Don`t you know what I mean Now I`m grown and Living on my own, uh huh Got me a boy, I know He`s not alone, uh huh He`s the kind of boy a Girl can take home, uh huh
  • "Got me a boy, I know He`s *mine* alone"

  • @giano56 Got me a boy ,Know he's not alone is the line

  • @giano56 Is got me a boy I know he's mine alone the line the fade of the sog?

  • I know I found The boy to marry

Cause our life`s been A bowl of cherries

Don`t you know what I mean

Ah, ah, ah, peaches Ah, ah, ah, peaches

Peaches and cream Peaches and cream

  • Two questions: 1) what happened to the Ikettes?

    2) how can I find the sheet music for this song?

  • Could someone please post the lyrics to this song? It's one of my favorites

  • Out of this world! I was a kid of 12 when I heard this and I've never heard it since, but the song was 'imprinted' in my mind all these years and all I could remember was 'Peaches 'n' Cream' and the 'Ikettes'. Imagine my utter surprise when I googled it. Heck, I didn't even connect the Ikettes with Tina Turner even though I knew that was her backing band.

    I bow to you Jimmytheferret!

  • Chavee, they were her backup singers, not her backing group

  • love it haha shame tina wasnt in x

  • WOW. I haven't heard this since I was at least 10. Listen to those girls saaang.

  • Always loved this song ! I have it on a album & a 45 ! I believe the original Ikettes were formally the group THE DIXI CUP'S ! you know ( CHAPEL OF LOVE )...............

  • two different isinging groups..the ikettes were from st .louis, missouri!
