Good question. It's hard to say who influenced who.. They both got started around 1955 and both became popular around the same time. I do hear similarities between them but Sam Cooke always sounded like Sam Cooke and Little Willie John always sounded like Little Willie John. If there was inspiration it's hard to say who inspired who.
Please check out the LWJ biography out this month (JUNE) on Titan Books! For more info go the Face Book page, Fever: Little Willie John's Fast Life and Mysterious Death or check the Titan Books web site or Amazon on-line! :)
@ketefollen1984 This brother reaches deep down into the collective repository of black collective soul. He takes his personal struggles and pain and transforms them into beautiful cultural expressions that speak to yearnings and sufferings we all experience. This is why we love him so.
Didn't know much about Little Willie John until James Brown really talked him up in his autobiography. I looked up his music and am very impressed. My favorite is "Let Them Talk".
What I like about music from this time is the songs were straight to the point. Of course they had restrictions with the length of their songs. But there was no story telling going on here. Baby, you affect me!!! Was the way a man told a woman he loved her. That's what I'm talkin' about!!! Please bring back those days. I said PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!
he was a big influence of james brown, james dedicated an album to him
