i have a boost mobile phone and it sucks!!! nd my older bro is giving me his g1 nd i was wondering if its possible to use the g1 phone for my boost mobile??????!!!!!!!!!!!

@kylevala unfortunately it is not possible to use the g1, even if unlocked, on the boost network. g1 is a GSM phone and boost uses an iDEN network. although they both use SIM cards, the network types are incompatible. i wanted to do the same thing because i have a g1 and i would rather not pay $350 for that piece of sh*t Motorola i1 Android phone they offer, but im afraid we are SOL.

G1 comes ATT ready.. you didn't unlock anything, you just entered your code from ATT...

try doing that with a sprint card foo...

all these guys are phoney.. these videos only demonstrate the steps to physically unlock ur phone "AFTER" u get the carrier's SIM card code....and that code changes for every single G1 phones....otherwise, people wont keep posting videos showing how to do it..lol

uhh dude metro pcs isnt a gsm network. the htc magic/tmobile g1 runs on a gsm network. metro is cdma just like verizon sprint and so on. tmobile and att are the only big gsm networks there are. [note the sim card that both those networks use]

But, you can call t-mobile to get the unlock code in which you may wait like 24 hours - 48 hours, or sometimes a week from what I've heard.

yes EVDO is way faster than EDGE. EVDO is for CDMA carriers like Verizon and sprint. EDGE is for only GSM carriers like at&t and tmobile

wrong you can use edge and there is always wifi. my g1 is still fast since att has better coverage then t-mobile for where i live. i had to unlock my phone since at the last minute t-mobile shut our phones off and my mom switched to att. greatest choice ever.

Ive had the g1 since it came out and tmobile's service on the phone is really bad the coverage area is really small for 3g you always have to switch between edge & 3g so you really wouldn't be missing out on anything by not having the 3g but i dont think all the apps will be avaible to use without tmobile service

Any phone can be unlocked for making phone calls. But whats the point in unlocking the G1 if you cant access the 3g network or download apps from the android market.

i have a unlocked g1 and the internet is almost as fast as my iphone 3g. And you can access the android market, well i can i dont know if you have tried and it hasnt worked, but if you set up the network right it should work.

my family is switching to att in 2 days, so is the g1 that bad without t-mobiles 3g, i use opera mini when its slow, and use wifi for the main browser, will it still work. att said if i put the sim card in it should work or can i go to them to get it transferred over.

@wasssabio well at this pointif u update it to the latest software.i think its 1.7 is the last update the g1 got.the market might work. but it definitely wont be running on 3G so the speeds of the phone will be pretty slow.
