  • basically you've described something akin to a psychedelic experience

  • I have to admit I really don't care for drone. The only thing it really does for me is help me focus when I'm studying for college. But after seeing this I just really, really want to see Sunn 0))) live now.

  • Jucifer melts faces. Don't hate.

  • how high were you?

  • 41 people shat their pants at a Sunn O))) concert.

  • HOW DO YOU ACQUIRE 7 MODEL T'S? I CAN'T EVEN FIND ONE

  • Sounds like you pulled a whitey from breathing in all the fog.

  • Just got into Sunn..definitely want to go see them first chance I get..smoking a lot of weed before hand.

  • thanks for taking the time to explain this to us all...as you can tell, you've got loads of views so it wasn't in vain, at all...

I come from an old school death metal background and industrial (Godflesh), and though I want Sunn 0))) to blow me away, I haven't found enough quality so far in the records...

but I'm sure I'd live through exactly what you're describing here if I went. I'm extremely sensitive to say...even movies at the cinema.

  • @yoe91 altar was the album I was into when I heard these guys. headphones don't do the job in my opinion. there's so much intended distortion and low end. if you're lucky enough to be somewhere you can see them absolutely go. this approach to music is so refreshing even if its dark.

  • @thegrandjew I live in Qatar mate !...so uhmm...no, there's never ever been a metal concert here ever lol.

That's such an interesting concept though, I never even thought of the idea that some music needs to be "physically" felt/ not done justice to by ear phones !!...

It's more like an actual body experience more than just composition really isn't it ?...

  • @yoe91 well the composition is basically as simple as it gets. but overloading everything has this crazy effect and that's the goal. the pressure on your body combined with the massive droning sound really puts you in a state. sounds like you have it right.

  • nice no hair glasses

  • Are Sunn members atheists? Just out of couriosity.

  • @ninfan98 just out of curiosity, what bands explain their religious beliefs? Maybe Bono, Springsteen, Madonna?

  • @thegrandjew all three are singers ha the fuck am I talking about?

  • @thegrandjew TDWP, For Today, Behemoth, The March Ahead, The Great Commision, Decide, etc.

  • holy shit! such emotions like after tripping on acid. is it really such mind-blowing?! so Sunn O sort of live band if listening their studio albums is pointless. go check out Bong then.

  • lets start a warrrrrrrr.... by trolling on YOUTUUUUBE.

  • tiring effect is real tiring, because ears get hevy load and the noise waves stimulate your whole body which overloads your brain with stimuli so you get tired

  • Sunn O))) is a band that people who listen to radio music/melodic metal drool over. There are way better drone doom metal bands out there, and there are better drone acts as well.

  • @Damnated6mil

    Such as?

  • @ReechReynolds some (relatively) bigger names: Boris, Nadja, The Angelic Process, Corrupted, Earth. There are a lot of lesser known ones, like Hlidolf, Menace Ruine, TenHornedBeast etc. Check them all out :)

  • @Damnated6mil

I know about Boris but the others I need to check out. Thanks!

  • @Damnated6mil could you reffer some of those bands?

  • Comment removed

  • @lookingatcrap I have seen them earth makes them look like a joke

  • @lookingatcrap In your opinion

  • If i saw this guy at a metal show i'd beat his ass... fucking nerd hipster.

  • @Snapintoagrimjim You wouldn't do shit, don't lie.

  • @Snapintoagrimjim Thats not verry nice...

  • @Snapintoagrimjim Watch out guys, we have an internet tough guy on our hands.

  • @Snapintoagrimjim

You wouldn't do shit. Who gives a flying fuck what he fucking looks like. If you go to a show to look at the audience instead of listening to the band(s), then you're missing the point and should probably spend your time doing something else.

  • @Snapintoagrimjim Funny, I bet Anthony would beat your ass if you tried, internet tough guy. While we're at it, how big of an imbecile do you have to be to start a fight at a concert?

  • did cal go this show to? Just curious what his thoughts were.

  • So Grandchildren, put down your hoverboards and come and hear the story again about why Grandad is now deaf and how the American government tested a subsonic sound weapon on its own people, who were gullible enough to believe it was music! (JK)

  • theneedledrop, just disable the comments. Don't bother with these idiots.

  • getting your dick chopped off is an experience too.. just not a good one... but at least its better than listening to any sunn 0))) song

  • @KyouseiHirameki ....uh...ok, you can chop off your dick, buddy. I'll be over here listening to Sunn O)))

  • I saw sunn o!!! i went to find out how many different ways there were to stand perfectly still...

  • i didnt know its possible to talk that sl o)))

  • 48 secs... i wanna cut your throat

  • why the fuck is a top comment trashing my sunn?

  • played with them a few times.......they're awful, plain and simple -- a one trick pony, style over substance, all bombast etc...........all those cliches seem perfectly apt...........just childs play compared to the swans in purely artistic terms........but if they make people happy then more power to them.......they happen to be nice guys regardless of anything i've said.

  • Ilike this needledrop era better.....

  • cool story bro

    ...

    okay I'm jelly.

  • I find your review interesting, because that was the impression I got of Sunn O))) by simply watching concert videos. I have an imagination, so I can readily envision what it might vaguely be like, and not discredit it simply because it doesn't carry off well on a compressed, streaming video. :-)

  • why do they play churches and masonic temples?

  • @uglyguido shitloads of reverb

  • @magicdweedoo but why do they let them play in there? It almost seems antithetical to their religion to allow such "subversive" music in their house of the holy. Not that I'm against it, it just seems strange for a house of worship to allow music to be played there which is deemed evil.

  • @uglyguido dunno

  • That one chord was that loud!?

  • With the way this guy is describing everything, I wouldn't be surprised to find him backstage sucking all of Sunn O))) cocks.

  • @VladFerdinand1 With the way this guy is describing everything, I wouldn't be surprised if he was tripping balls or just having an AMAZING time.

  • correction, they played [the same note] for two hours...

  • This is the video where I talk about something that only I give a shit about.

  • @Shamnambul Dude, Sunn's badass. What bands do you listen to with better quality? Oh wait. thats right. :V

  • @redfoxskater I saw Sunno))). I love Sunno))) . Who gives a shit?

  • @Shamnambul People who care about further progressing their own taste and knowledge in music. This guy introduces new albums to people every week. For him to go out of his way to make a special video for this band's live show SHOULD tell you that this is probably worth listening to.

  • @redfoxskater I've never needed anyone to tell me about good music. I seek out what piques my interest and really could give two shits about what anyone else thinks of it. I'm inclined to say that over 2000 albums (including 23 by Sunno))) and collaborators) by over 700 artists later, I don't think I've done so bad for myself over the past 23 years. In the end, opinions just don't matter to me. Thanks.

  • @Shamnambul then why are you talking shit on here? I dont care about your itunes list, i just think its pretty gay that youre on this dudes balls for trying to tell people about an experience he had with one of his favorite bands.

  • Comment removed

  • stonehenge was built for sunn o

  • Damn, I want to go to their concert now.

  • I fanboy as hard as this when I see my favourite bands. I saw Bad Religion and Explosions in the Sky this Summer and I still wont shut up about it.

  • I think they're alright, but I guess it's something you have to experience in person to truly get. Otherwise, I prefer Dark Ambient, but I know the 2 aren't comparable.

  • Who is louder, Sunn O))) or My Bloody Valentine?

  • @64Fathoms that is kind of a dumb question.

  • I dont know if anything could ever beat The Flaming Lips show!!

  • Yeah, Im a metal fan, and I have to be honest, I don't get this shit

  • @twiztidlestat I get where you're coming from. in my mid teens i listened to of lamb of god and pantera etc, didn't get doom or drone, preferred fast paced aggression. even now i'm not fully into drone but starting to like sunn more and more, and it definitely stretches boundaries. the best thing to do is not treat it solely as music, but like this guy says, an experience. commit to taking the time to do nothing but listen to and focus on it, let yourself be absorbed in it. then you might get it

  • @rabbitspliff

Yeah, I hear ya, I will try and get more into this stuff, and realize its not about amazing solos and pulsing drums etc. Its just different

  • dude the level of sun o)))) is no where near the level of BASSNECTAR

  • @isaacADD not a chance. Sunn play tiny bars, bassnectar plays giant festivals. Plus, two completely different kinds of heavy.

  • @ConiferTreez i saw bassnectar last mounth in a club of 500 people so.... yeah and also i am just saying that the experience of sun o)))) is not the best sound experience out there

  • I love Sunn really loud on my headphones ..I was listening to monoliths and dimensions just the other day In my office.

  • I would love to see

    Sunn)))

  • sounds sort of like a shroom trip, just worse.

  • I heard Thath because of the low frequency sound earplugs would not help at all. Is this true?

  • The url ends in ewoks, you know realize that.

  • The fog may have influenced the shape or pace of soundwaves, you know become slower and the body becomes more accessable for those. Very interesting in any case :o.

  • juciefer is a bad joke dork....

  • You went to see Sunn o))) without drugs? Admirable

  • When i saw Sun O))) I had had some shrooms. It kinda blew my mind!

seeing Merzbow at UCLA was a physical experience well worth experiencing!

  • Any UK tour dates soon? I cannot seem to find any? Anybody?

  • @hermannnitsch342d They're playing Germany and Italy, don't think they have UK dates planned.

  • This guy drones on and on and doesn't say anything profound. Just like sunn 0)))'s music.

  • @slow7770 haters gotta hate

  • @slow7770 Bananas gonna banan

  • I had a similar experience of body vibration prior Sunn O))). First time was Slan, a project from John Zorn and Elliot Sharp, second time was Granular Synthesis, a proect they had done with Diamanda Galas.

  • earplugs?

  • @stuartvl1 You're brain would probably turn to mush if you saw Sunn live without plugs lol.

  • Im gonna tell ALL my grand kids about Sun O))) when I get some. im gonna play it for their lullaby while I read them H.P. Lovecraft

  • @DarthBelch0 hahaha dude yes

  • @DarthBelch0 that had me in tears

  • I just got back from Soundgarden ("oh no, soundgarden they're too mainstream") no joke I can't hear Anthony right now. After Slaves and Bulldozers they let the amps feedback for like 10 minutes, Kim Thayil augmented this with a whisky bottle, go see them to find out what that whisky bottle does.

  • I felt exactly the same about a Godspeed You! Black Emperor show

  • I don't know if it was mentioned, but the reason it didn't feel like it was coming from the stage (aside from all the foggy confusion) bass frequency is omni-directional.

  • Jucifer probably uses a bunch of fake cabs

  • fuck, this sounds cool an shit but the way you describe it makes me afraid to go deaf or something, I've been to a couple concerts and shit was pretty loud but sunn o))) puts all the focus on volume. would earplugs be required? wouldn't that like ruin it, wouldn't it be muffled and distorted?

  • lol ur nerdiness reminds me of Spencer Reid from criminal minds

  • funny you put it that way "i saw tha sun" because that line slowdive sing in every outher of their songs!!

  • Lucky

    Lucky you are.

  • This band is scamming the fuck out of a lot of people. They turn the reverb all the way up and hit one chord and just stand there. And ALL of you retards pay for that. Congratulations on being stupid and buying into that garbage, I'm glad I am not that stupid.

  • @BladedVaults you just summed up every concert ever. every band just sits there. plays their shitty song than leaves. its hero worship. you think people go to concerts for music? we're all getting scammed, even you. so don't act like you're some all knowing mystic when in fact you're a spineless pussy making fights on youtube. let us get scammed if we want. and we'll let you go get scammed in by someone else. but we won't judge you for it.

  • @JukeboxHeartbreak91 You know, people who listen to this crap have this smug pompous attitude and think they are on a different level and everyone else just doesn't get it.These guys cannot play their instruments, they stand there in some gay ass mist and loop a reverb chord for two hours.THAT TAKES NO EFFORT.Real musicians work for years to hone their craft so they can create something worth listening to.And people who pay to take part in a real experience don't need drugs to make it sound good-

  • @BladedVaults first: there's no smug condescending attitude i assure you. if anyone is being pompous its you by acting like you have any authority on the subject at all then proudly declaring your glorified opinion as fact. the importance of music has NOTHING to do with talent. its alllll subjective. some people value the shallow common held idea of "talent". other people value the experience and power of a song. talent is NOT needed to convey emotions and power.

  • Comment removed

  • @JukeboxHeartbreak91 lol you love this band that much too huh? lol get a life and stop sucking their cocks.

  • Comment removed

  • @BladedVaults

Viewing music in a musical standpoint is the most ridiculous thing you can do seeming that music is about passion and conveying emotions? Fuck off.

  • @JukeboxHeartbreak91 -are not getting scammed. They pay for somebody's hard work.

  • @BladedVaults -and thats the difference between us. except the fact that i didn't go to some shitty band you like and put it down to make my self look my important than it's fans, and you call me pompous?

  • @BladedVaults you're perfectly entitled to an opinion dude but you don't need to be rude about it, im sure the guys in Sunn O))) love the music you've written.........OH WAIT!

  • guess who's seeing Earth next month? :3

if only Sunn were there too.... :'(

  • Have you ever seen SWANS live?

  • I have been wanting to see Sunn O))) live for awhile. It is really cool that you got to see Earth the same night.

  • I used to play shows with a bassist who used a Sunn model amp, we would all have our stacks set around 7-8 and his bass amp would be on about 2 and he would still drown all of us out easily. Those amps are ridiculous.

  • this was all this one chord blasted at you?

  • I want to see Sunn O))) live so much.

  • idk if they'd come to califronia sadly

  • electric wizard?

    wtf is jucifer

  • Hot damn, if you think that is like being on drugs merely listening to it, I would very much like to see them live after some grade thankyou very much!

  • hole are way cooler

  • i got that same shirt! from a show they had here in atlanta..

  • Hey! I saw a jump cut! You prevaricator!!!!

    But SUNN Rule...good review

  • I always wear earplugs when I go to concerts.. Its worth it!!

  • lol, he reminds me of a white version of my music theory teacher

  • wow, 2 hours of IMMENSE volume... I really need to experience this but they never come near where I live :(

  • Speaking of loud bands....check out Manowar. They shit out steel and lightning on stage

  • dude , have you ever seen aphex twin live ?

  • I've seen Sunn O))) 3 times, Glasgow, Leeds and Newcastle over the past 4-5 years. There are no words to describe it, unless you experience it live.

  • i couldn't hold together coherent thoughts either.................but that was probably cuase of the drugs.

  • I agree with his assessment. I saw them in Detroit in '09 in a bar\club the size of your living room. It's funny what he keeps saying about standing up. After about 20 mins of the gig, I crossed my legs and sat in front of the soundboard. And forget top 10: I would put them at #1. Just behind Pink Floyd and Nine Inch Nails (on the Downward Spiral tour).

  • my friend saw sunn o))).

he said it just made him poop for half an hour

  • @Morphochroma i havent laughed that hard in a long time

  • Ugh, last time they came to Scotland I didn't go because I couldn't get anyone to go with me, from the sounds of things it wouldn't have mattered if I went on my own.

    I must see them!

  • this sounds so fucking sick haha

  • try MBV bro

  • Sounds like they were doing some black magic....

  • @SaintSanic Sounds more like a forced meditation or hypnotism, maybe.

  • @ServantofSelf

"Forced Meditation" Sounds black to me. If someone breaks into your subconscious and inserts their own vibration? Their own paradigm?

  • ear plugs?........pussy

  • @LemmYFRT More like intelligent.

  • @IamZanderss psh who cares about there ears anymore?

  • @LemmYFRT Yeah man. Hearing music is for poseurs.

  • @IamZanderss now your getting it!

  • Where did you get your shirt?!?!1

  • did you actually use money to see those fucking retarded monkeys? LOL

  • dude you must of been high going by your description lol

  • if u want the same experience, go see an Emmure show, youll be shaken alright :P

  • @Reckless1112 Emmure is terrible. Stupid Rap-Metalcore shit.

  • want that tshirt

  • Saw SunnO))) years ago. I wasnt ready for the lack of notes. Maybe 10 notes for an hour strait. Body stiffens, Disoriented, almost makes you angry? Drove 250 miles home. It literally took me 3 months to understand the experience. Everyone has the capacity to let this music touch them, but most wont let it in. Its not normal, but its real and cuts you deep. Again it took me 3 months to appreciate.

  • Dude you lost me when you compared Jucifer and Sunn O))) ... one is more a tactile joy ride rather than a "band" .. the "vibro chair" was a better comparison.

  • @waltrr72 Just listened to Jucifer, and it absolutely sucks. Everything is bad.

  • Dude you lost me when you compared Jucifer and Sunn O))) ... why again?

  • You're a cunt

  • do you need to wear ear plugs for it?? I saw a small metalshow with like 5 bands and 3 of them sucked but i twas like 6 hours of loud music and it fucked my hearing for a while if not for good lol.... sucked cuz only cool bands were psyopus and cattle decap

  • @xdyingfetusx69

ear plugs for sunn gigs you ask......lol YES, YES & MORE YES. Caught them live twice in the uk. like this guy says it is an actual physical feeling. I heard heavy systems from dillinja's valve to jah shaka's system but what sunn did was beyond that. The whole building vibrated it felt like i had done a dirt in my pants.

  • so annoying. do everyone a favour and stop putting yourself in front of a camera. your description of this band will never do them justice. you sound like an idiot.

  • This makes me wanna see Sunn O))) so badly now.

  • really want to see them live, they never come down to texas though

  • I had pretty much the exact same physical sensations as you when I saw them in london in 2006 with the dude from xasthur on vocals. the thing you said about mouth dropping open, and also not being able to stand properly. but particularly what u said about the sound feeling like it was actually coming from inside your own body.

  • I had a friend describe to me a very similar Sunn experience to you. Everyone was lying down on the floor. People were literally shitting in their pants. Just from those vibrations.

  • i can't wait to see them live man.

  • After describing this show, I /must/ see Sunn live, now. I was never too big of a fan of their music, I really have to be in the mood for them, but this sounds like quite the experience. I am jealous that you got to not only see such a line-up (Pelican, Earth and Sunn!? Epic!) but got to experience something so.. I don't have a word to currently describe it lol
