I love them. I have less knee problems and have improved my Air Force PT test run dramatically in the last year. I was running an 11:38 1.5 mile PT test run and now I have cut my run down to 11:19 from 6 months ago. I will say I have been running more and have lost weight, but with that combination and vibram five fingers it's now enjoyable. Half way through, I tried using my NewBalance & it was like wearing concrete cinder blocks. They're not for everyone.
@scasillas1977 BTW, I'll never go back. It took abou three weeks to get used to running to a new way and my achilles & calves were sore, but now it's butter. Moreover, my ACL surgical knee doesn't hurt no where near what it used to. If you do decide on some, spend the extra dollars on the higher end ones, you'll be happy you did when you run on rocks and pebbles and barely feel them compared to the lower end ones with minimal sole, those are good for strict track runnng.
Doctors do not have all the answers, and I'm positive that ancient people of five thousand years ago walked barefoot on stone, and rocky terrain. Remember The Pyramids of Egypt ?
I am running so much faster without shoes, its awesome. It feels great, and it's nice to get grounded with Big Momma Earth. :D I'll be picking up some Vibram's within a few weeks. Check out my channel for updates and reviews.
Your body has a natural support system. Before Nike came out with their big heeled shoes there were not the same running injuries you get today. Before Nike people were running with less injury.
@tonymuse Asphalt/Concrete is actually much easier. Grass/Sand/Trails are uneven and rough; littered with debris sometimes. Concrete/asphalt? Flat and firm with clear visual of what you are running towards.
5000 years ago we weren't such a bunch of pansies haha.
@tonymuse No, you don't "need." I've been running without and feeling all the better on the road. Cushion encourages your foot to land harder, but when minimal/barefoot your foot will tell you to land softer.
@TheEarther We will have to agree to disagree. I run with the Chi or Pose style of running so I land on my mid-foot anyway. I would never consider running on hard surfaces in those ridiculous looking socks. :)
@tonymuse Haha, alright, agree to disagree. I run forefoot, though I agree with your running style. Why Heel-Toe is popular/recommended just plain confuses me.
ok, i got made fun of because of my vff's and was told they were gay, to which i replied, "Your mom likes them because i can sneak out of the house without waking your dad up in the middle of the night". you can use that one
Doctor says "I need arch support otherwise I get knee pain".. well in fact those shoes will GREATLY reduce the impact on your knees, so that statement doesn't make sense. If your back or knees hurt, give those FiveFingers a try, give yourself a 2-week period to adapt, and then it's bye-bye pain.
@operator223 With the numerous adjectives in the english language you choose gay to represent your feelings about a shoe. You are a philisitine, an uneducated, uninformed kid who more than likely lives at home with their mother.
Been wearing them for about a month. I Don't use the for running I wear them at work where I have to be on my feet all day. For the first time in years I don't have knee pain at the end of the day. Love my KSOs. :)
Yeah and 5000 years ago we didn't brush our teeth. If you've grown up wearing shoes, continue to wear shoes. The cultures who go barefoot have been doing it since they were born and have harder bones in their feet as a result. It's not natural or safe for the rest of us.
@CamillaCalamity Where is your evidence? They work great for me. Your foot is designed to land evenly. Running heel toe causes more impact traveling up the lower leg causing more ankle and knee injuries.
@MrBrianojee An observation that poor people in the world have gross, flat, scarred feet with broken and healed bones. Have any of you yuppies ever been to a poor country? There are people who wish they could afford shoes. Shoes protect and prolong the life of your feet. And your life too, remember what happened to Mr.Bob Marley.
putting on these shoes and walking in them is a relief for my feet after a long day of being trapped in flats boots or whatever :-) I love them. they're my babies.
I switched to forefoot running a while ago - at I was doing it in Dunlop Volleys, but since I got my Vibrams I've been using them a lot and they're wonderful. The only catch is that sweat runs down my legs and makes my feet slip around in the Vibrams - I'm about to try sweatbands on my ankles, which will hopefully fix that.
these shoes to run in can really hurt your legs and knees permanently. You have to slowly work you way into them... but once you do, they are awesome :D
@thedamgame fila makes a similar shoe called skeletoes but if you plan on running in them pay the extra bucks an get vibrams they're 80-100 bucks. Vibrams are much more comfortable and better constructed. And to anyone planing on running in these please be careful and take your time, start slow and increase your milage slowly. It takes time to develop proper barefoot technique and doing too much too soon with poor form and technique WILL lead to injury
Doctor says he has to wear arch supports or his knees will hurt so he can't run "barefoot". The whole point of running barefoot is to change your stride and foot strike so that you no longer roll heel to toe, your foot no longer rolls wildly outside to inside during the foot strike, and you no longer have issues with your knees. This doctor missed one of the most important aspects of barefoot running, correcting foot strike and eliminating knee pain and knee damage.

I run barefoot on concrete all the time with no problems. Your body won't let you pound your joints to powder on hard surfaces while barefoot, it will tell you how to adjust.
We didn't have concrete thousands of years ago and we have evolutionarily changed completely. You are taking big risk running in these shoes. If you are even considering them you need to wear them on soft surfaces not concrete and start off very very slow. If you start to develop pain stop. We should know by now the difference between soreness and pain is. With anything use CAUTION and listen to YOUR body.
@hollandspringshoes "we have evolutionary changed completely" where you being extremely ironic with that statement?
as a regular concrete running vibram fivefinger user I can say this, atleast for me these shoes have been great! i alway had knee paing when i ran before, it just took a few weeks when changing to fivefingers and my knees feel great. You dont need fivefingers to fore/midfootrun but they are absolutely great when doing it. Only little setback is debree getting caught between toes.
@Kultmannen have you had knee pain previously or do you have a knee condition? Although i know bf running is better there is still alot of ground reaction force going through your body when running isn there -i thought about six times? I was considering walking as a better way to exercise and reduce the likelihood of arthritis
@hollandspringshoes We have not evolutionarily changed over the course of thousands of years. In our modern generation, we have merely weakened. I run in my vibrams on concrete. You do need to slowly build those muscles before you can run on concrete, I do not disagree with that. And with pain, I do agree. But with that argument, shouldn't we have ditched the modern running shoe?
the shoes are great, i have 4 pairs. However i dont want them to be too popular so i can be special and be the only wearer in my area and so far i am.
@ariesmars29 Haha. I have 2 pairs, looking for my 3rd, and every time I wear them my friends call me crazy. Funny how people think shoes that just mold to your foot look "weird"
@MrIce807 People's feet can have plenty of dysfunction for no reason but genetics and hip alignment. There is no set one way for peoples lower leg/ feet to work, it is unique to the structure of the person. This NEW idea actually can really fuck up a person by forcibly changing the muscles and weight shift of a persons hip gait. In 3 years everyone will get it.
