On the very last chord Tommy plays with the reverse rake, does anyone else hear the guitar "exhale" seemingly? Now many of us ohh and ahh at his playing, but it takes a very bad man to make the guitar actually do that...I'm just sayin..
your song when open i can get the good feel so much , Thanks for good song good music it's make to the earth freshy for my think Thank you again Mr.Tommy i proud in your self.
Oh my... I'm speechless. You completely took this song to a whole new level! I only hope I can play this song someday half as good as how you nailed it in this video! :DD
Yes we know Tommy E is very good but to my taste he lacks soul. There seems to be way too much exhibitionism, stacks of unnecessary notes, flashy arpeggios etc etc. Phil, his brother, always managed to get to me at their live gigs.
Of course this is only my opinion based on my perception alone and I may be right off the mark. I do like his percussion/digital delay stuff he does on his acoustic .
i am 24 years old and id like it 2 b known that if this is not played at my funeral i shall come back as a poltergeist, always loved amazing grace but bloody hell does he not make a fantastic job of it or what???
@frombaerum it was a freezing cold night and tommy and andy had trouble with tuning that night - the hall was really hot and de-tuning 3 steps for amazing grace didnt help - cold to hot plays havoc - he also does a quick tune up at 1.05 - but the performance was one of tommys greatest - dont think he was in the best of health either
To reduce these awesome video's to who's-better-than-who is to completely miss the point. There are so many wonderful guitarists out there in so many different genre's inspiring others with their heart and soul. ALL OF THESE PEOPLE are making the same statement, each in their own way, that the guitar is one of the most incredible wonderful musical instruments ever.
@WayOutWesley nicely worded Wes. we just love tommy for himself, his playing and the support he gives to other great players who will one day take his place
Greetings from New Hampshire! Upon waking at 7am I had a nice friend request from sidneyandherbie which directed me to this version of Amazing Grace :) What a great way to start a day! New friends and a big helping of more amazing guitar that I didn't even know was out there. Thank You!!
And the best thing of all is that Tommy is a genuinely nice man who in my humble opinion is the best ambassador the guitar ever has (perhaps only matched by Chet Atkins).
@m2dad2 hi from scotland, its coms like this that make posting my videos worthwile - long live tommy, didnt see Chet but make up for it with lots of TE concerts
I feel Tommy's different compared to most other guitarists out there as he clearly puts emotion in his playing dynamics - playing music rather than satisfying with more technical approaches.
A video i want to watch again and again. He pits so much soul into his performances and this is his beat by far. When I die, I want this song played at my funeral. This version too
Alright, that's it. As soon as he started hitting those backbeats at 1:40, I quit playing the guitar. It's just SO GOOD! God, I wish I had those hands.
@wallace6600 yes, my all time fav. both to play and hear over and over - dont think tom was well on the night - he was certainly cold - the guitars tuning was a problem
but you would never know with his ability. thanks for the com
@kytim2 tommy uses a crap load of different strings. Everly, martin, d'addario... the list goes on. He says he likes changing brands so his guitars dont get used to the same string over and over again. I honestly cant tell the differnce but Tommy knows whats best!
@sidneyandherbie Have fun! I saw him a couple of weeks ago in Germany. It was stunning. It´s just him and his guitar on stage and he makes people go crazy. That night he made me buy an acoustic guitar, seriously ;-)
@sidneyandherbie I´m gonna see him also in November 19. in Prague. This year i already saw him 18.3. in Basel, Switzerland for the first time and it was the best concert of my life (i have been to quite a lot of concerts!). He´s the only one who´s really interested in his audience and doesn´t play "just for money and fame". He´s not only the best guitarist alive but also the best entertainer. God bless Tommy!
@hetfield4president im srry i disagree with u. maybe ur talkin bout this song only but santana benise fandango and bb king r bettr then him. im not tryin to be rude. just sayin
@atomant103196 Well, how are you going to say they´re "better"?
At a certain point it doesnt make sense to use that word, let´s just say they´re playing different styles. How can you compare Santana or BB King to Tommy?
Let me put it this way: He´s the most complete player ever. He could easily play lead guitar in a Death Metal band as well as classical guitar in a jazz band. In his command of the instrument, he is the best in the world.
@hetfield4president im srry bb king santana and benise fandango are way better and the could play any type of music. its tru. but u can think wat u want. but u knoe its the truth. benise fandango santana and bb king are way better than him
@atomant103196 I think you mean Roni Benise. And he is certainly not better than Tommy. The same can be said said about Santana and BB King. While I consider both of them great pioneers in they're respectful music styles, I don't regard either of them technically gifted compared to guitarists such as Guthrie Govan for example. Santana's playing lacks sophistication as evidenced by the video in which he jams with George Benson further demonstrating that he can't play jazz.
@atomant103196 but, Clapton, Satriani and even tommy's childhood hero Chet Atkins say that he is the best they have heard. So BB king etc are NOT better, but they are still better than most others.
This may sound weird ... but watching him and how easy he moves around the frets and strings, he makes it look like its as soft as butter. I don't know how else to explain it lol.
try openE 6th, Fsharp 5th string (little finger 9th fret) open 4th string and bar the 3rd/2nd/1st strings 7th fret. I hope someone can improve on this - this is what i like to call a 'tommy' Chord
Tommy is just too good. Whenever someone mentions "God given gift" this is who they need to hear. I love how he worked in the harmonics towards the end. Thanks for posting this. It was awesome.
On the very last chord Tommy plays with the reverse rake, does anyone else hear the guitar "exhale" seemingly? Now many of us ohh and ahh at his playing, but it takes a very bad man to make the guitar actually do that...I'm just sayin..
