Global treasure? Its a symbol of genocide of an entire nation of people. Putting this in the Black Hills, which have been a sacred place to natives way before white man ever came to this land, was a final kick in the stomach while we were down. Americans like to forget their history and try to glorify its false freedoms. This mountain has been a standing act of terrorism to Indian people and should be removed!!!!
Mount Rushmore is creepy.... you always see it shown.. whenever creepy things are been discussed like secret organisations... religious things... freemasonary... can someone tell me what Mount Rushmore is really about....???? is there something hidden in their meaning.... or are these just 4 great presidents who shaped america
John Fitzgerald Kennedy should be the next addition. Americas best president by far, the kennedy family were probably the closest The USA ever had to a royal family.
@keithc1977 what JFK the reason hes so famous is because he was killed in office he didnt do anything revolutionary the cuban missile crisis maybe truly he wasnt a fantastic president and if he wasnt killed hed be thought of no better than truman and eisenhower they were great men
@louthebody he was important every president has been but he is one of the presidents where if he hadnt been born the United states would move on washington was the first president thomas jefferson helped found the country lincoln brought the country back together teddy roosevelt prepared the country for ww1 built the panama canal kennedy didnt do any of those things for example he died and though gripped by tragedy america was ok
I am a patriotic American but I hate this abomination. Who did the people who destroyed this natural site think they were to deface such natural beauty with these busts of these four men? Too bad we can't put it back like it belongs.
Why? For expanding the wars in the Middle East? Or perhaps for plunging future generations into debt slavery? Maybe for creating government entitlements that are short-sighted and unsustainable? Or perhaps for having a well-run presidential campaign in which his main selling points were that A) he wasn't Bush and B) his skin pigmentation was different to previous presidents? Or perhaps for trying to silence political dissent against his administration?
@perezDeSanFernando no, they should add him because he is the first black president and he is ending the war in iraq and he's inspiring and stuff like that. his presidency is much more significant than bush's. and why should he be degraded because of his skin pigmentation, that's racist. :(
but maybe you know more about ur government than me, i'm canadian... eh.
I'v been to Mount Rushmore! If you ever get to go to South Dakota you should because it is amazing there i loved it. I saw Crazy horse there 2 and it's just so awesome! Theres also a LOT of really fun stuff 2 do there. If you wanna more info maybe because your planning on going there email me.
It's a slap in the face of a great nation, the Lakota. It's like putting a statue of Osama Bin Laden at ground zero....wake up please, stop being ignorant. The Black Hills are a sacred land and this 'inspirational tribute" is built on stolen land. WOW! get a clue....you must be able to see the profound ignorance in your statement.
Of course I know about Crazy horse. Who's this we, the govermnment? If that's what you mean, no you are not helping build Crazy Horse. Korczak Ziółkowski is the guy behind Crazy Horse and he doesn't accept federal funding. Plus, we don't know what Crazy Horse looked like, so how is that a statue of him? And how does Crazy Horse make up for the fact that the government eridicated a nation and then carved the faces of terrorists into the rocks of the Lakota's holy land to show their supremecy?
I shouldn't even waste my time talking to your ignorant ass. And yes you are ignorant based on your statement that "we built Crazy Horse for them" Motherfucker I know more about South Dakota than your ass does, and I definately know more about the Lakota conflict so maybe you need to shut the fuck up and know something about anything before you open your mouth.
Gain control of the South? The South was part of the nation and therefore under his control already as he was President. The South wanted to pull out of the Union. The civil war stopped that from happening because the North won, therefore keeping it part of the nation. Otherwise, today we could be two different countries.
I know, were you there at night when they have that speech and show that video on the big screen? then they light off the lights and show them at the Presidents. It's awesome
Yes, I was there during the speech show and when they finally shine the light up in the faces of the presidents. I was feeling very patriotic at that time. It was really great
Yeah these four left lasting impacts on American Histoy (Washington-First President, Jackson-Manifest destiny, Roosevelt-Imperialism and Panama Canal, and Lincoln who allong with FDR is one of the greatest presidents in US history)

@caraber89 I was only aware of the big events in Rapid City and Sturgis areas. Semantics aside, the point was, the KKK were present in South Dakota and to argue that "the north was against mistreating the colored" is also moot because SD wasn't even a state until 1889. Yup, SD mistreats everyone who isn't white. And historically, also some whites.
