  • Hi there.

Question: Could we type "column" prior to the column number in our "tax" table array?

    Thanks! :)

  • I love you!

  • Cool! Since love is the most important thing in the universe (Excel is about 3), that is a huge compliment! I am glad that you liked the video!

  • Please don't jump with sceen-capture, it confuses...

  • i've been watching some of your vids, but i still have a question that still haven't exactly addressed what i've been looking for. is it ok if i send you a personal message with my situation / question, and you can refer me to which video you'd recommend that i watch? i'm not requiring you to give me like a total personal tutorial, just a direction on which video to watch, and i'll learn by myself...? thanks.

  • Send question by YouTube e-mail.

  • Hi, am new to excel and learning a lot. Do you have any videos on how one can use data from one sheet, pasted to another sheet to compute? Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

  • Try this video;

  • Hi Mike, Thanks a ton for uploading the vedios and excel files..They have helped me a lot to improve my excel skills.I love the way you teach. U r the best teacher i have come across ever!

  • YOU ARE AN EXCEL ANGEL. THIS IS SO UNBELIEVABLY HELPFUL! ESPECIALLY FOLLOWING YOU WITH YOUR WORKSHEETS. PEOPLE LIKE YOU GIVE ME HOPE IN THE HUMAN RACE! LOL. SERIOUSLY, THANK YOU.

  • You are welcome!!!

That is why I do this: becasue the duty of humans is to make the world a better place.

I also wish that there were fewer bad things that would happen in the world and this is the only way that i know to have an affect. Some people say "play it forward". If you can make one person smile, then may that person will give out a smile, etc...

  • Ahaha thanks for making me smile with excell !!! :) Very cool tutorial x

  • You are welcome! If you smile while you learn something new, the new thing learned is remembered more easily (sticks in your brain better!).

  • @ExcelIsFun

You have a good heart <3<3<3

  • Excel is so much fun, it is easy to share!!

  • Dear ExcellsFun,

    I have two data tables:-

    1) 1 data table contains number of units sold

    2) 2nd data table contains revenue of units sold.

Is a Pivottable able to combine different data from 2 separate tables into one PV? Or do we have to use one PV to count the number of units sold and create another PV to consolidate the revenue?

Thank you for your reply in advance.

  • I am not sure, but check out if this Mr Excel video wouuld do the trick:

    MrExcel's Learn Excel #928 - WIIW - Multiple Consolidation

  • 1) Start menu

    2) Control Pannel

    3) Regional and Language Options

    4) Formats tab

    5) Customize this format button

    6) Change List separator to comma

  • really like all your videos!! I have learnt a lot from you. thanks!!

  • You are welcome!

  • Thank you! You made the tutorial so interesting.

  • I am glad that you liked it!

  • I thought vlookup ONLY works if the first cell reference is in column A ? was this ever the case ?

  • Not that I have ever heard of!

  • Mike -if you go to Google and type in something like " vlookup only first column " you will see site after site saying that vlookup ONLY works in the first column

yet I look at your example you have violated this "rule" and it works fine. CONFUSED

  • Dear dogxhot,

Column A does not necessarily equal First Column. So it seems that you are confusing these two:

    1) Column A

    2) First Column.

The rule is that VLOOKUP always looks up the value in the First Column, but that First Column can be in column A or Column B or any other column.

Does that help? Does that make sense, now?

    --excelisfun

  • Mike -One final comment -

Around 7.21 the lookup value is G62 not the first column but it still works

  • Yes, that is correct.

  • Dear dchin8,

As long as you read the message box carefully before accepting, it should be fine. I never accept, I always go back and edit the formula because many times it does not suggest the correct formula.

  • Wanna say ''thank you for ur videos"

    you are the best man

  • Very helpful stuff, man. I bet you beat all the instruction books on Excel. Soon, you'll get much traffic due to the amazing job you did. I went to an interview on Thursday and they wanted me back on Monday, tomorrow, to chack my Excel knowledge. I didn't have any other source to prepare myself a bit, just your cool videos that I found on youtube. From now on, I'll be cheking it regularly if I have any problem on Excel,

Thanks again. Your fantastic acting is also great.

  • Dear siamosh50,

If you have an interview, be sure to watch the Excel Basics Series (in my Playlists), because it covers what most interviewers will ask. Even if you are already smart with Excel (like you are: watching this big VLOOKUP formula), you will pick up a few good things in that series.

Let me know how the Excel Test goes!

If they ask something that you did not know, let me know and I will make video!

    --excelisfun

  • Dear ExcellsFun,

I attended the second round interview today and many many thanks to your cool videos, I did a great job in the Excel Test Knowledge, I got 90% result. ...

Should I not have prepared myself by reviewing your videos, I could have not answered at least half of 75% of the questions.

Again my hats off to your job and World Wide Web....

    Siamak

  • Dear siamosh50,

    Congratulations!!!

If you can tell me what that 10% you missed was about, maybe I can make a video.

    --excelsifun

  • Dear siamosh50,

Yes, if you know others that want to learn Excel, let them know that Excel Is Fun.

    --excelisfun

  • Man, Michael Phelps is like a child compeared to you mike. Hey!! Give excells Fun a gold medail for each video, Yes 329 GOLD MEDAILS FOR YOU!

  • Dear zolo538,

I am glad that they are helpful!!!! That is why I make them!

    --ExcelIsFun

  • Doh! I said 4 stars, but I always give you 5 !!! I was too busy looking at numbers to realize it LOL. Typo.

  • Dear periwink,

Rate 'em how you see 'um!!

    --ExcelIsFun

  • Rate em' how I see them?!!??!! I SEE THEM ALL AS LITTLE GEMS! very valuable information here. Anybody in the admin field, knows, that Excel is one of the most commonly used programs. I'm a wiz at typing, but without knowledge of Excel, it won't get me too far. I'm not going to stop at taking a class, i'm going to continue with the books you recommended...with the constant reinforcement, I will slowly get comfortable with Excel, so that I don't get nervous :P. (thanks also4 UR help and sound FX)

  • Dear periwink,

Yes, it's true about Excel - most jobs require it. Sometimes I am amazed with people in my business classes (Stats, Finanace, Accounting, Math) that say they are mad because I am teaching using Excel. I tell them that they will not be doing Stats/Fin/Acc in their job with paper and a hand-held calculator. Some of them drop my classes & say they won't need Excel. But they will get a shock when they get a job....more

  • Dear periwink,

Constant reinforcement (practice, practice...) is the method that is most effective for learning anything! That is how I learned Excel: every day I learn a few new things, & I force myself not to shrink away from the hard tasks, then after a while the momentum is on your side & you are flying!!

Thanks for being so smart and hard working, periwink!

Luck for us (YouTube Excel Team), we have lots of other YouTubers that are just as smart and hard working!!

    --ExcelIsFun

  • 5 stars! Thank you for showing all of the vids on VLOOKUP. It's what I need. thanks

  • Dear periwink,

Now you can post on Craig's List for Accounting jobs and just say: "I can do VLOOKUP in my sleep"!! (Actually, that famous quote is from Bill "MrExcel" Jelen).

    --ExcelIsFun

  • Ohhh! I wish I could do VLOOKUPS in my sleep :P. Or do i? LOL

I'm not that confident in Excel, not at all. As a matter of fact, I'd be up the creek without your helpful videos! Or I would have bought a few programs that would have taken a lot of my time...(not kidding! yikes :o) - I'm more of an ACCESS person. I liked it a lot more and for some ppl, they say it's harder ? Numbers intimidate me. (prolly cuz i'm mathematically challenged)

  • Dear periwink,

Soon, you will be able to do VLOOKUP in your sleep! The only reason that people say Access is harder is because many fewer people know how to do even basics with Access. If you are an Access person and a newly budding Excel person, then that means you are doubly smart!
