@nickmattedwards You mean the bullshit produced by most anime studios that pander solely to the typical anime fan that prefers panty shots, nose bleeds and yuri undertones in their anime? Yeah, I agree on that. Disney actually makes good films for the most part.
While I'm not a fan of all of oshi's work, (some are just too damned artsy and literally have nothing happening in them.) I've always enjoyed this movie and it's great sense of atmosphere. He also surprised me with gits2 and it's balance of story, intrigue, and action.
meh, I always just like the somber feeling of the scene. Citizens go on about their lives with the soldiers on their posts. I never looked at it and felt the need to cry or anything. I just liked the feeling of it along with the music. I especially like the beginning subway, the kids waving at the tank op, the helis in the background, and the snow fall at the end.
Maybe one the best movie scene ever, worthy of Mamoru Oshii.
There is no dialogue in this musical interlude of the Patlabor 2 movie, but there are more metaphors, allegories and reflection on life, the world and the society than in most intellectual productions combined. This scene is so captivating by its dark clarity that I have chills and tears in my eyes.
I remember the first time I saw this film and the impact this scene had on me, what a masterful way to instill the fear of war without a single gun being fired. The Patlabor canon will always be one of Japan's best animations, definitely my favourite.
@blueskdragonFX Except that part 3 sucks donkey balls. It hardly has anything to do with the patlabor unit, and instead, focuses on the investigation officers for the most part. The music is just as godly, though.
To be more accurate, the movie shown in the video is movie 2. Patlabor has two different timelines, both of which have pretty much same characters (some don't appear in the other timeline), mechas, settings but different stories.
*Chrononogical Timeline 1: 7 eps OVAs - movie 1 - movie 3 - movie 2
*Chronological Timeline 2: 47 eps TV series - 16 eps. OVAs
Extra: 'Minipato' a 30 min OVA with 3 segments with characters discussing diverse topics from the show, made for fans.
A film of this quality exists and yet go unseen by so many people who will watch the b*llshit produced by Walt f*cking Disney
