Definitely a nice Odhner! But I can't help wonder if it has just been stripped for paint. At least the upper plate of the Odhners are always brass.

Btw. there's another (sometimes easier) way of resetting the sliders. Push down the button between the two for moving the carriage and start turning the main handle and they'll all reset. Move handle back to position. Check my vid 'Odhner 129, performing of stop division' to see it when I reset it for a division.

Not exactly. The Odhner is a pinwheel machine whie the Curta is a (very unique) stepped drum. Also it differs in the way of substracting. On the Odhner the handle goes one way for adding and one way for subtracting. On the Curta the handle only goes one way. While the Odhner is really subtracting the Curta can only do adding - it does subtracting by adding the complementary number (pull handle up) so result is the same but mechanics are very much different.

I have a mechanical calculator at my summer cottage, but its much more advanced. It can add, subtract or multiply with one single pull of the crank, and it prints out the result. It only has 12 buttons, plus a small lever from which you can set it to add, subtract or multiply. I think its from 1950.
