  • love, 0:22 through 0:25

  • oh yeah but watch for the collapsing chest. pull out. not in

  • this is awesome! good job

  • This is great! Very clean movements! Keep it up!

  • This has been one of my favorite Drunken Gauger sets on youtube for a while...I don't even know how many times I've watched this! Your rhythm is wonderful and I love the smile on your face after you're done! Hope you are still dancing!

  • i like your sideburns and flaring pants. just saying. :)

    great job.

  • @smcdancers Hahaha shut up, whoever wrote this ;-) Erin?

  • You are so cute!

  • @onlysimplepages That's a new one! Thanks!

  • Ahh, you are such a pleasure to watch :) This was 3 years ago and your rhythm and poise is sensational; guaranteed you're even better now. Best of luck with your dancing!

  • @93Celt Yeah I am haha... To the point where this vid is now actually a bit embarrassing, but thanks!

  • the drunken guager is my favourite set ;D and this guy did a great job at it :)xxx

  • @xCestTresChiquex

    Thank you much!

  • Thats amazingg(: i never knew you could do that(: Good job(:

  • haha ok i have to say you are an amzing dancer!!! Your arms like never moveeee!!!!! and i noticed at one part you did toestands... i thought boys didnt do them?

  • @MsTwinkletoes769 That's so kind of you! Thanks--although I'm much better than this now.

I did pop a toe-stand in the set. Boys never used to, but within the last three or so years, they've started. Not to the extent that the girls do, but one here and there is starting to be common practice.

  • That's really good! I think this is my friend's dance, but she has loads of toestands in it. I think they're a girl thing, though.

  • @4096quagmire Yeh massive quantities of toe stands do tend to be a girl thing. They're slowly creeping into boy choreography too though. In one competition at Worlds in Glasgow this year, I saw five lads do toe stands in their heavy rounds.

  • what speed is this??

  • @twinkledancerful Hahaha--as the title of this vid might suggest, this was danced at speed 69.

  • wow this is really amazing.

  • your awsome!! :P you probably dance in the same age group as one of my teachers he's 22 and dances a bit in riverdance :P i take it you are championchip and do the worlds and all that shizz :) i think i recognise you from the worlds a few years back but i don't think it was you cause you are like 19 and i'm like 13 sorry for like using up all your comment space but you are soo good :)

  • What age group were you in at Glasgow this year? I think I saw you there at some point during teh week.

  • @ILuvGreenDayX

I was in the double age group... Men 19-21 I think it's called... I wear a blue plaid waistcoat.

  • your really good! what level are u at?

  • @irishdancer54321

Hey, thanks! I'm open champion since 2005. I've danced worlds three times now.

This vid is old though--I'd like to think I'm a bit better now ;-)

  • @highrishdancer oh cool! i bet u did really well at worlds!

  • @irishdancer54321

Nah--unfortunately I slipped twice, then was too sick to dance my best the other time. Worlds is just not my event! I've started to do alright at NANs though... and I do ok at Oireachtas.

    What level are you?

  • @highrishdancer oh well that's ok, even if you don't get anything, I still think it's a great accomplishment just to be able to go to worlds! and I'm in prizewinner. i wish i was in OC though! Lol

  • hahhaha, the clap at the end..... lol :D

  • @TimothyLeDancer Yeah--that's because I always like to end my dances on a really manly note ;-)

  • kinda looks like your doing some toe walks there... my teacher would never dream of putting that into our dances, but hey! i guess every school has its style lol.

  • Haha no toe walks, just a toe stand at the beginning of the set part.

When I first started doing this set, it was unheard of, but at this last worlds, I was seeing guys do minor toe stands left and right.

  • sorry, i ment toe "stands" lol, and btw, nice dancing :o ive been dancing for 2 years and im an opens, hope i get that good lol.

  • @OirechtasMuch Ahahaha I know! They've long since been discarded.

    Btw, I love your username.

  • great foot work!

  • I hope you do really well this year! You deserve it, I think you are fantastic!

  • hey do you dance for BFOC?

  • @Irishchickadee38 Nope. Wrong side of the country lol.

  • @highrishdancer

How did you place at worlds

  • @workkmeoutt

Sore subject... I've gone twice, and fallen twice, so I don't really have an accurate answer for you... We'll see this year if I can manage to remain upright. Keep in mind this vid is from months before I went to worlds the first time.

  • @highrishdancer

What school do you dance with and what region lol.

  • @workkmeoutt

    The Short School, Eastern Canada.

  • @highrishdancer

    Cool cool -

Ill probably see you at Nationals this year if you go. I'm with the Drake School now and live like 40 minutes from Orlando so it'll be fun to watch.

  • @workkmeoutt

What was your competitive age group? Are you still dancing competitively, or would you just come to spectate? Beware of the $100 spectator entry fee...

  • @highrishdancer

I just started back up again a few weeks ago - I was first with Tir Ne Grene & then Rondeau - I am just going to watch -

Getting myself prepared for the Southern Regional Oireachtas, I feel like coming back with a bang and another win =p hehe.

  • how did you go at worlds outa curiosity??

  • Haha emmm... Both times I've danced, I've managed to fall on my face, and I've learned that judges don't take well to that when you're one of the only people that falls over. I was in the bottom third both years. I don't even remember the exact placements anymore. I've tried to push it from my mind.

  • what i mean by not flowing is there is a lot of like knock hops and hops to your bum and it breaks the dance apart instead of making it continuous got some clever bits in here tho!

  • Aww thanks for the comments. I value them. Thankfully, this hasn't been my set since Belfast Worlds... I'm still doing Drunken, but it's entirely different.

  • pretty good! however your missing back work and i personally think the steps could flow more but thats the teachers work and obviously different to what im used to

    keep it up!

    NANS 2010 baby wooo!

  • great turnout!!!! wish i had it

  • a guyy doing toestandss is perfectlyy normall:)

  • woa i've never seen a guy do toestands

  • you had a bit of an un-crossed moment in like the

middle of the set but that's okay because it's a ridiculously long dance lol :x

Like everyone in NZ is doing Drunken Gauger at the moment. They must have seen you and wanted to be cool as well lol. :L

  • I think you meant to reply to different postings, but instead, they all just got piled up at the top here.

Yes there's a massive, gaping uncrossed moment, but that's not excusable by the fact that it's a long set. Judges don't give excuses lol. Thankfully, that part is no longer in this dance.

Everyone everywhere is doing DG, not just the Kiwis ;-)

  • how beautifully it is done,congrats:-)))))

    Toestand is cute:))

  • ahhh that looked so good! im doin this set now for oireachtas and such...its sooooo tiring though OMG its like impossoble to at the end to pick up your feet...how you arent dead at the end is AMAZING TO ME lol good job and yer rythym is mad good :)

  • I think it's because the choreography wasn't overly complicated. If there had been more material in the steps, I would have been entirely dead just like everyone else ;-)

    Thanks for the compliment!

  • Very nice! Too bad you missed BOTH of your clicks/slices! :( On a couple of your jump overs you didnt quite fall on time, try and work on that!

  • Thanks! None of those parts exist in this set anymore though--now there are other issues hahaha!

  • Wow your good! Nice rhythms! Not sure about the toe walks though, a bit girly lol. But still amazzzing!

  • Thanks. The toe walk used to be really odd, but I saw much more blatant than this done by many boys at worlds, so now I feel I fit in ;-)

  • hahaah:-)))great sense of humour indeed......

But.....YOUR DANCE is gorgeous...I do not know you so how could I know whether u r gorgeous or not:-))))))

    Long live irish danceeeeeeeee:)))))

    Keep dancing!!!!

  • he is so gorgeous!!!!!!!!He didn't even pant in the end.........it so great the way he danced!!!!!

  • Bahahaha did you mean I'm gorgeous, or my dancing is?

  • do you think you could give me the mp3 for this?

my sister wants "the drunken gauger" in 69 and i suppose this is the one!

lol at the girls at 1:25

  • wow that was awesome!

  • Thanks. I'm glad someone liked it ;-)

  • Were you at the Cornwall feis in March? I swear I saw someone that looked exactly like you. lol

Sorry if that came off "stalker-ish", I swear I'm normal.

  • Yeh I was lol. Did you see me dance?

It's much better than this crap video eh?

  • Unfortunately I didn't get to see you dance :(

Will you be at the London feis?

  • Nope--Will be at Montréal and Ottawa though next month...

  • You are extrememly good!!! You have GREAT upperbody strength, and great beats and timing. Cross your feet and turn them out, and... Voila!!! An absolutely amazing dancer!!!

  • It's very interesting you say that because the only comment that I CONSISTENTLY get from judges is arms/upper body... My cross over usually isn't too bad. As I get tired, my rear foot does tend to go straight though... Such a pain.

  • This always makes me smile...you are the best dancer I have seen

  • Your comment is flattering, but I must say, it leads me to think that you need to see more dancers hahaha.

  • Well, I have seen as good as you, but its great steps and you are very good.

  • Thats cool, who do you judge for. What company.

    Did you ever cheer?

I danced for Tir Ne Grene & Rondeau.

Both schools I won the Oireachtas with. & went to worlds.

  • Nothing is too slump because of choreography. You can take it to another level. And thanks for the comments you left me, which seemed so out of spite to my comment. Constructive Criticism. Don't get so defensive.

Ive danced since I was 6. I know what Im talking about.

  • Nah, I just checked out your channel and commented on what I saw. I'm a cheer judge (seriously), I know what I'm talking about. I said it was quite decent too, especially after reading in the description you were just back from injury.

    Who do you dance for?

  • Extremely weak at the end. Keep up the endurance. and straighten your wrists. don't flare them out. Point toes and turn feet out more.

  • Actually I danced it with full stamina. I've never had issues dying in this dance. Perhaps it just seems to slump at the end due to the choreography, like the person below us suggests.

  • dude, get a male teacher... That set is weak for a male...

  • In what way. I'm curious, cause it's not the first time I've heard that. (Even though I no longer dance this set.)

  • I've always wondered--is it pronounced like "gage-er" or like "gaw-ger"??

  • gage-er

  • i love how you end! really nice

  • Thanks! The end turned out a bit different in the newer version, but it's the same idea.

  • nathan goes to the same school as me. he does highland dancing and i think he knows you

  • Honestly, this is my favourite dance....BY FAR! Keep up the great work! You are awesome!

  • Aw thanks! I think you're the first Kiwi to comment on this video.

  • No prob...Post more videos of your irish dancing!

  • I'm Doing This Set For Leinsters And All Irelands At The Mo. :)

  • your left shoulder is carried lower than your right. also, the whole thing on your toes isn't great. might just be my opinion but you cant pull it off especially because i think its against a rule?

  • Thanks for your opinion. I've heard that a lot from the overseas people. It's been serving me well through for two years though, and is consistently my highest scoring round so, it's staying for now. There's also no official rule against it, just sort of a common stigma. Oh well.

  • guys doing toestands is kind of weird and my teacher had a big emo about it once lol but it is not actually against the rules. I think it is becoming more popular now though.

  • You have damn near perfect turn out... SCORE!!

  • Haha thank you, but it starts to slip as soon as I start to get tired :-/

  • Really? You mean, you wouldn't have beautiful turn out if you danced say, eight hornpipe steps in a row? How strange...

    ;]

  • our school does this set now too and its funny how similar they are, like the timing on jumps and such. I like yours :)

  • That was awesome but I hate how everything in Feis dancing has to be sped up, the Drunken Gauger is much more effective slower & you can tell the story properly!

  • I'm not entirely sure what you mean... This was only three speeds away from the minimum speed for this set. It can barely get any slower. 66 to 69 isn't that huge of a difference.

  • So, how long have you done Irish for? Have you done Irish and Highland for the same amount of time?

  • I never know the exact years... I think Irish is at like 9 years now, and Highland is at 6... I think.

  • i saw him dance @ oireachtas!!!!! that was my set but it changed 2 blackthorn stick like a month b4

  • whats up with the flares?!

  • Your shoes seem fine compaired to mine. There's more duct tape on my shoe then the shoe it's self.

  • Haha I was in that same situation with my last pair.

The issue was, in this video, I was wearing one current hardshoe, and one old... And the old pair was retired for a reason haha.

  • the only thing i would say is at the begin of the lead the two bangs were a little out of time :) but everythink else was sikk

  • See I don't hear that as off, I hear beginning of the set part as off... Hmm...

  • wudnt be mad about de pants ur wearin lol

  • ahhh! youre awesome! love this! keep up the great work! you have great sound! haha i love your face at the end...you look like a kid i know...

  • Haha, if you'd seen my face about two seconds later, it would have looked like I was going to die momentarily.

  • your a hab dancer you got a lot of high movements in your set. its a long set but you did a great job on yours.

one thing doe. dont wear cut up end pance when practicing its hidesthe good in you.

    D

  • Thanks!

  • How did you do at NANs?

  • Emmm... Not good... But the entire result was screwy, so I've not thought too much of it.

  • talenteeeeeeedddddd and i loved the way he turned out his feet, and that he danced all over the whole place!!!!!He reminds me of the dancers in LOTD.

  • Haha thanks! I know a few dancers in LOTD!

  • really good

i want to see your reel!

  • Thanks... People say my reel is better than my hardshoe, but idk.

  • dude your a good irish dancer ;) keep up the good work. One thing that worries me... that floor your dancing on in your heavys... has that got any give in it at all? you said its hard and it looks solid - my sister got shin splints and so did her friend from dancing on floors like that.

  • Yeah, I've danced on my share of bad floors. That is a professional dance floor, but it's just a touch harder than I'm used to. I like plywood cheap floors... Good bounce... But that floor's ok, just not my favourite.

  • Ugh! We recently got that weird flooring at our dance hall... I hate it!! We have to take turns washing it every night! It gets slippery on blocks and heels.

  • a great set.. you should be proud!

  • Of this standard of dancing!? I think not!!! Haha, thank God it's gotten much better.

  • never wear them trousers dancing again!!!..r at least close the zips!!!

  • it was funny i went to a feis and made up my set dance without my teacher knowing so he got really pissed... but then it turned out i became third in the championship when i usually get 6th or something lol

  • Good job!

I really like the choreography of the set!

There are pieces that need polishing but obviously that's something that every dancer needs to work on!

    Keep it up!

    Good luck in future competitions!

Will you be competing at the NANs?

  • Thanks! Just danced it today at a feis, it usually turns out to be my best round. It's been changed around since this video was done as well.

I'll sure as hell be at NANs... I dance on Thursday, Men U18

  • Wow good job!

Best of luck to you at NANs!

    Maybe I'll catch you dancing!

What school do you dance for?

  • wut fies and wut level u in. i just danced attt the great lakesss fies =]]]]

  • Gotta reverse you're e and your i there dear... Feis... Em, I'm open championships, and I compete all over the place.

  • o cool i am in prelim tryying to ge into open champ=]]] well GOOD LUCK!111

  • kl lol, well, i dont think any one in my school has already posted anything lol and i dont wanna be first! oh, and i live in england so its not really very likly i've ever seen you at a feis before lol, i dance for Bartlett, in somerset. how long hhave you been dancing?

  • i would defo put a vid of me doing this set but my dance teacher would find out (she knows everything!) she would kill me lol, i kinda agree with you bout planxty davis but i would lke to do it coz i really like the music, lol, im not too bothered if i die after lol, but i would bore everyone thats watching! what school do you dance for??

  • Yeah, posting this wasn't my best idea, but the damage has already been done... And two other videos exist of dancers from my school doing this set, so I don't think anyone's going to die over it. I dance for Short in Québec, Canada. You?

  • Edmonton alberta here!!!

    Canadain to the core EH!!

  • Except I reside in Vermont and commute over two hours to dance class haha! I speak fluent Canadian though.

  • fluent canadian... hmmm I'll have to be hte judge of that.. LOL if you can swear in quebecois and english and make it sound good..then i gues thats fluent..

  • Actually my specialty is the Ontarian dialect with the crazy inflections.

  • really? can you post a link to it please?

  • yea, umm... ok lol, i see you're point in the posting thing lol, but im still not going to lol. i dance for Bartlett in somerset, England lol, not too far away eh?! how old are you??

  • can you post a link to those other vids please?

  • i was looking at some of the comments thinking WHAT!?DrunkenGauger is long?i mean,i do it at speed66 which is slightly slower than this one and i ddnt think it was long lol!i mean,my brother does planxty davis,im not sure what speed its at(all i know is that its like 5 mins long lol!)thats a long set, even cmopared to thisbut if you saw some of the sets that my dance school has this one is pretty short in comparison!i admit that we do them at quite slow speed though.are you a festival dancer?i am

  • I actually do it at 67 but 69 was the slowest music I had at the time. You're right it really isn't all that long... It's about the length of a hornpipe. I'd say I do it "comfortably"... I don't really die too much in it. It's also gotten much better since this was made. Planxty Davis needs to be banned, it's a terrible, long, evil set dance that no one deserves.

  • that set is insanely long, but very well done! I do Job 108, it's comparatively very short!

  • drunken gauger is the set that never ends.

p.s. i don't think i've ever seen a boy do anything remotely close to a toe stand, at least not in my region hahaha. looked cool. :)

  • Haha it's not NEARLY as long as Planxty Davis... speed 76. Shoot me in the face! haha

Really? They're starting to creep back in to boy choreography.

  • luckily, I have yet to do Planxty. It might be my new set for NAN's, JOY!

and that's cool, I think it looks awesome when a guy can actually nail it, plus it doesn't exactly hurt in getting noticed lol.

  • wow this is awesome! great stamina! I'm doing this for my set this year and its killing me!!! any advice on how to make it better?

  • You mean the amount of stamina required to do it is killing you? Or your choreography...

  • a little of both. The choreography isn't to bad and really the stamina isn't TERRIBLE but combined its not very pretty

  • The only thing I can recommend it do it over and over and over again... Do more steps than you need, so when you have to do the real thing, it doesn't seem so bad. Like we do our 3rd reel step twice in practice to build stamina... So maybe each time you have to practice the Gauger, do it twice, or 1.5 times.

  • all things considered, its pretty good im jealous

  • well done! im doin th drunken gauger for my setdance at th all irelands on saturday. HELP! :) but anyways..nice work :)

  • is it a hornpipe or a treble jig?

i loove the set dance music.

    lol.

  • The Drunken Gauger is a jig set that's generally done really slowly... I do mine down at speed 67.

  • OMG I LOVE THIS DANCE but try to loosen your ankles a bit more to spread out the trebles.

  • Haha my ankles can't afford to be any looser! I roll them all the time haha! I think what you're seeing might be more or less side-effects of the pants.

  • AWESOME!!!!!! U ROCK.. haha get it rock

  • really nice!!! keep up the good work.

  • your rock at the end is really good!

  • Aww thanks! I rock at rocks.

  • ill post more comments on your profile thing

  • im from new york

  • keep your trebles tight

  • Haha I wish I knew what you meant by that.

And yes, I'm from Vermont. Do you know me?

  • Ya i do but like i never seen you but werent you in a newspaper or somtin like that and you got 4 at the oireachtas and your going to worlds???

  • Haha yup. Where are you from?

  • hey are you from vermont????

  • You're a lovely dancer, but to make your dancing PERFECT you need to watch your timing more. Also, those flappy pants do nothing for your feet..

I actually think that a few toe stands here and there is cool for boys.

    Good work! :)

  • Thanks! Usually timing is the last thing I have to worry about although now that I watch it again I do notice I go a bit ahead of the music in the set part... I think that's cause I got a bit tired.

Yeah the pants... I wasn't actually planning on making that video that day, it just sort of happened. Otherwise I would have worn presentable pants haha!

  • Traditional set dances have always such funny names :D

Very nice dancing ! What school do you dance for ?

  • short

  • The Drunken Gauger isn't a traditional setdance actually, it's a non-trad. If you think this is funny, how about *the fiddler around the fairy tree* hahahahahaha What exactly is a *gauger* though? Anyone?

  • I suppose it depends on how you look at it. The tune is very much traditional, the dance isn't.

As far as I know a Gauger is the old term for a bar bouncer.

  • What's wrong with fiddler around the fairy tree? :P That's my set at the moment lol... I hate it. :'(

  • Wow!! I love your turn out and cross over! It's amazing!

    You're a wonderful dancer ^^

I'd like to dance as good as you someday =)

    Kizes!

    Silvia.

  • Thanks! And trust me, from what I've seen, you're well on your way!
