Ringo drums on this song and George Martin (beatles producer) plays piano, and of course Paul and Linda sing with Wings and a few trumpets and saxaphones
ideo is about a band/song making it. starts out with band playing in living room, moving to radio station, being discovered by an agent who hears the song on radio, who then checks out the band now playing before a large audience; then band signs a record contract. Basically the story of the Beatles or Wings or any band
This great song reached #10 in 1982. (U.S., Billboard) -- I think this is one of his 10 best post-Beatles hits. That is saying a lot, because Paul McCartney is the greatest living musician in the world!
@rin3guy I would not argue with that Paul is certainly an ikon and he is blessed with a unique talent. John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and all of the greats have passed away now. You can talk about Take That getting back together but I just wonder how John and Paul would have worked together again, I suspect it would have been brilliant. Sadly we will never know :(
I LOVE this song!!!!!! I agree the Outro should be as long as possible -- this is FABULOUS music, exquisitely performed with amazing precision. It just doesn't get any better than this!!!
I just love this song. Brings tears to my eyes at the end where the aahhhhhhhhhhhhhh bit comes in. just a genius of our times. love you Paul. Oh and he was brill in Dublin last december. best gig of my life
@Mrwreckless69 I agree, Macca can write a cracking tune. Just heard this on the radio and thought that I must work out the chords for that lovely outro on my guitar. Surprisingly easy really - A flat major 7, G minor 7, C7, F minor 7, F minor 11, E flat major 7, E flat 7 - for anyone that is interested. Not quite sure about that last chord but I think it is right.
@md7195 I wouldn't say today's music per se. Mainstream and popular music is truly awful today, but there are several underground bands that are just fabulous. They don't win awards, but they make music for the sake of making music.
After Wings split McCartney went a bit quiet but when he did release music it was the classic stuff you would expect from this legend. This hit, no more lonely nights, hope and deliverance to name just a few.
Oh yeah this song is so right on. Has more meaning for me now than it did when it originally came out. Some songs are just classics and anything Mr.McCartney does is just that!
agree....this is a much unheralded song by Paul....I remember it on the radio..but pop was escaping the songwriter at that time, don't know why...but it is one of the more beautiful songs of the 80's for sure.....yeah, when I saw Jon Hurt in the vid, it brought back the memories of that time....cool actor...cool song...and the best on the record I feel also...Peace!
Not sure I would describe it as beautiful but it is a superbly crafted pop song and defintely has one of the best 'outros' of any pop song I can think of, and its frustratingly too short -the outro should be at least 30 seconds longer or more -calssic
@kigster18 - Yes this is a great song by Paul. Paul was the little brother that John never had. John was the big brother who saw the talent that his little brother had - dont get me wrong John was brilliant but they were just perfect for each other. The greatest ever - I mean Paul came up with Penny Lane so John upped his game and came up with Strawberry Fields. They were just incredible together
@petercouz - I agree Peter the backing vocals combined with that lovely chord sequence for the outro is almost "Hey Jude" like. The problem is that people are always comparing John and Paul and it is not fair. They were the greatest songwriting duo in the last 50 years bar none. John was slightly jealous of Paul's superior musical talent and Paul looked up to John's personality, brilliant lyrics and presence as an ikon of our time. Together they were fabulous end of story
@petercouz - And it is all very sad because in the era of rubbish reunions none would be bigger than the Beatles. Perhaps that is the way that John would have
wanted it not to have sold out. John Winston Lennon and George Harrison RIP.
I have always loved this song - brings back so many good memories. Loved the whole album :) Thanks for posting this gem :)

Definitely a classic. The horns remind me so much of Donna Summer's "Heaven Knows." Wonder if they had some of the same musicians?
