people are asking why go to so much effort allowing time over night. Well, a good porridge is Seriously nice, it doesn't even compare to what you can do in 6 mins. I think my mums recipe was just Rolled Oats (ive not seen these raw oats in Australia) and Milk, then once its cooked we have Golden Syrup on it, great especially for cold mornings :D
I am trying to find a recipe for making Porridge like my mum makes, so far not found lol, will have to ask her. BUT id bet this would be really nice and i think i will give it a try. Thanks for the video :D
for everyone complaining about the 10 hours thing, just a little tip: cover your porridge with milk and leave it in the fridge OVERNIGHT. wow, huh? so much work!
and btw, it really makes a difference to soak the oats before you cook them...

Fantastic job Jemeela! Thanks for posting a video on soaking the oats before cooking them! This very important step of the process is all too often forgotten! I soak mine in Whey, yogurt, kefir or lemon juice. The reason is that it breaks down the phytic acid in the bran of the oat seed (for those who don't know). Thanks for posting Jemeela!
Hey Jemeela, I love your channel.I just found it. I'm from the u.s. and I was wondering if porridge oats and steel cut oats are the same thing? some times we call it irish oatmeal too. steel cut oats look like very small tubes and take longer to cook then what most americans know as oat meal which tends to be more like a flake. anywho great vid.
Another Jemeela video! It's been so long. I wish we had porridge in the U.S., though I suppose oatmeal is a substitute. It doesn't seem the same to me.

Great choice of porridge oats (being Scottish myself) but I think it's best made simply - water and a touch of salt.

Judging from the amount of sugar, a lot. A bowl of sugar only needs 1/2 tsp to sweeten. I don't understand why so much sugar.
ReignFury 2 years ago
it's not a bowl it's a pot. a pot needs more sugar because it's bigger.
but you don't have to add that much.
Jemeela 2 years ago
if you try it you will see it dose not tase too sweet

Can I store the porridge, and if so how many days?
fantaztika 3 years ago
No because it contains milk and goes off fast.
