  • He was like the Beatles; except Chinese and only 1 man.

  • @InTecknicolour Sam's band from the 1960s (The Lotus) was suppose to be the recreation of the Beatles. Sam tried to relive his passion of Elvis Presley, thus he took many of his songs and re-wrote it so its suitable for his fans to listen, as well as to get his fans to listen to his songs. Elvis Presley- King of Rock N' Roll, Sam Hui - God of Cantopop.

  • ROFL mv nice

  • 阿sam你露點喎,呵呵! :P

  • ROFL

  • you guys know he was originally from toi san.

  • Sam Hui was able to write such whimsical lyrics because he is well-educated. Hong Kongers need to take pride in their language to bring it to new heights, especially since Wong Jim and other greats are now gone.

  • i agree wit u, all the other modern chinese songs are all about girls and crap

  • true , true :)

  • @nooyawkfun i totally agree with u watching sam hui and wong jing's movie was the light of my day even if im not a honkie tat;s how powerful their movies and song can influence the world imagine if u never heard his song wad will we be :D haha cheers

  • @nooyawkfun I look forward to a day where songs can be in colloquial Cantonese again without them being crude or rude. the ones in nowadays, many 2nd generation ABC's can't understand and it leaves them out of the loop. if we have songs like this we can make them feel a pride in their culture. Cantonese is such a great culture; we must preserve it.

  • nice funny song!

  • I agree with jasonkhtam7

  • This meant money and water shortages my dad told me though he was born in vietnam and his family moved there since WW2

  • water is symbolic for money in this music video. Hong Kond didnt use to have running water back then for many of its people. You had to be well off to have running water.

  • you reminded me about Dune with this water as symbol of money.

  • Bravo Dashi!...you are the God of Songs!

  • the song is really funny like it very much. think it's also ambiquous. i might be wrong ;p

  • Dirty bathroom

  • father of canto pop

  • Sam you're the greatest. Truly the God of Songs.

  • XD

    i love u sam hui....

  • funny =)

  • Sam. u were so man!

  • sexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • 好

  • 温多D水啊,friend

    no water = money

    no need live ~

  • Good~

    浴缸→花灑→水盆→水桶→噴壺

  • 仲有.....碼頭

  • its weird that hes wasting water singing about a song about saving water lol

  • its a figure of speech, the chinese for water is a slang for money. i think hes actually talking about money, but i could be wrong...

  • yeah... i think i might be wrong...

  • no, you're right. 2 meanings to the song

  • No, he's referring to the water shortage in HK during that time.

  • @chinkywings No, at the time the lyrics were written, it was literally what it meant. Back in 1963, Hong Kong reservoirs only had water that would last for 43 days. Water restrictions were in place. At its worst, water supply was only for four hours every four days.

  • 制水 means no water come

  • it is not so weird, and it's explained in the lyric, this song is not about saving water, but telling the truth that in HK especial during the hot summer, it would be quite unendurable to go bed without take a bath /shower first, but it is often during this season the water supply is badly limited or even no water come at all after evening. I think that also explain why the singer washed himself with lesser water time to time in this film. Finally, he took bath ironically on the riverside.

  • that's actually the sea

  • @jeanchangberlin Back in 1963, Hong Kong reservoirs only had water that would last for 43 days. Water restrictions were in place. At its worst, water supply was only for four hours every four days. It wasn't much fun because it was supposed to be summer, meaning it should had been typhoon season.

  • its dual meaning, both the water issue and also the lack of money in the pockets of hong kong folks back then

  • wow XD

  • hahahh. i can't help laughing at this video!!.

  • Oh yes, we can receives this tune well and alife ina Kabul. Pleese can we need see some more.

  • Can someone give a short translation about what he is singing in this song? im not from china and dont understand chineese, but i really like sam hui and would like to know what he sings about aswell ^^ <3

  • In the old days of Hong Kong there was a lacking supply of drinking water. Therefore there was rotating "blackout" of water supply, which the term is called "制水". When the rotating water blackout came along, people started collecting buckets of water so that they had water available. 制水 is no longer necessary in HK nowadays because of water supply has been built from Shenzhen.

  • Yes.. i still remember the good old day in HK... Help my mom with buckets of water up to 8th floors..old days..!

  • Sam's most sexy moment......but too bad, the private thing well covered always.

  • you little asshole

  • i think there is a hidden meaning in the lyrics.. he was implying 制水 as being wihout money.

  • its really , but i have no idea why peoples vote bad comments , lol

  • This song is funny although of course it has historical significance in the modern history of Hong Kong.

  • Sam Hui has always make my day brighter.. :)

  • nice song Samuel Hui

  • what tune is this?? so familiar!!

  • OMG OMG OMG I REMEMBER!!! ITS PAUL SIMON! mother and son reunion!!! [im pretty sure]

  • yea your right, the tune is mother and child reunion, theres a whole bunch of songs like this. off the top of my head i can think of rainbow connection by the carpenters and more than i can say by leo sayer

  • 呢首歌諷刺1963年水荒果陣的狼狽苦況

  • he tells history and how important water is~ save water, save the world. SAM HUI FOREVER

    even im 21.. love SAM!

  • well actually he's singing parts about Money.

water = money that's what I've been told

Dad lived in HK during that time.

  • haha this is soo funny does any1 know which song when he sings there is like an accent not exactly accent it like sings it with it.

  • wow..he got a nice body sia

  • 好正。連我呢d九十年代既人都好鐘意呢首歌!

  • this song is tight

  • One of my fav singers of all-time. Great song -Wil

  • haha how many different ways can you wash yourself?

  • good the best

  • lol.. sam is such a good entertainer

  • ooh i have this dvd. love this song :o)

  • sam hui has awesome music and is soo funny

  • his song is the best and i no wat his saying

  • Can someone explain to be why he is bathing in every scene? I dont get it...

  • Hong Kong is an island which high density of population, water supply is always an issue in 70s.

this song title is "Song of Water Rationing", the song cries the problem faced by HK people during period of water rationing in humour way. Sam Hui's songs dominate HK music in 1970s', the lyrics encompass the current issue of HK which appealed to public esp to middle & working class.

water rationing become history in early 80s after HK gov imported water from Guong Dong Province.

  • Ohhh, Haha :P. Thank for the explination. The video makes alot more sense now.

  • in addition to the history explained...

U notice he uses less and less water for the bathing scenes as the song goes?

I just find that so funny :D

  • Hahaha I did not even notice that!

  • how about the ocean at the end? i noticed too btw

  • ...means he finally run out of water at home!!... :D

  • lol

  • is he naked or did he wear a bathing suit or something?

    just curious

  • i like all sam hui songs!

    thanks!

  • i love you doraemon

  • Wow, this MTV is pretty old. I remember I saw it when I was still living in HK and it was 32 years ago. Thanks for the memory!

  • 32 years ago?!?! Dude, the whole water thing was during 1983...

  • Dude, what do you mean the "whole water" thingie? You mean "制水"? Are you trying to tell me that HK only had "制水" 1983? 8-)

  • lol, yeah this song was originally from the 1975 album. So at least 32 years.
