This guy is really knowledgeable about the camera. Also good with technical terminology. Now if he would only take a class on lighting/music/sound. :)
Its not true, that you can't use the files in other NLE's. You just have to change the format that the camera records to, which is possible to be switched tp mp4!!! Not only MOV!!
Thanks for the review, I love this camera and if anyone wants to buy one, don;t hesitate, its brilliant in this price category!
By the way, stop that porn music background stuff. Its so anoying!!

I been with JVC since it's first pro model HD100. I cursed at myself so many times for dead pixels, bad picture quality at low lighting condition, problems with importing/capturing a footage in to FCP and more, but I still love the camera for some reason, I hate Canon for sure, Panasonic 200& 170 is better in low light but P2 are damn expensive, and it does not have a good lenses and more than half of the features what JVC has . I been offered to upgrade my HD 100 to 700 so I's suffering now...
hi u seem 2 know the 100 inside out, how @ the 700? i've heard under ideal lighting conditions, the 100 can take a shot as nice as the 700, even tho it looks like a toy - true? i need to know the difference in picture quality between the 100 & 700... & low light sensitivity 4 both (does the 100 make artifacts in dark black?), do they handle motion ok (no strobing when someone running)? also, how do both compare to the EX-1 & EX-2 if u know? please respond (email wud b gr8: macman0043@yahoo com
OK. Cameras are for pictures, right? Camcorders are for videos, right? But what the hell the Canon 7D DSLR make HD videos betters that any Camcorder of HD around 6k to 8k and it only cost $2,129. And as a Videographer a need to pay 6K to 8k for a HD camcorder and it get worst, those camcorder are 1/3 CCD chip, the worst thing in low light situation. Check this video "Canon 7D movie - Another night in Beijing" This is proof that SONY,JVC & Panasonic only whant to F... Y.. until they can't no more.
@nelsonmilian00 7D and 5D II are still cameras with video modes. They record at a non-standard framerate, a low-quality format, among all the features that real cameras need that are missing. The 7D will give you pretty videos for neat little video projects. Cameras like the HM700 are for professional ENG applications and have all the features needed as such. Good luck getting any real work done with a 7D.
@mogwix by buying this camera u can shoot and have DOF but if u buy camcorder then u must by the adopter for it in order to get DOF and that will cost u almost the same price as the Canon 7D keep this in mind
@al420ful you've totally missed the point. DOF isn't what makes a video camera good, and a shallow DOF in most cases is detrimental to what this video camera is designed to do. This is not a camera for home movies or indie film projects, this is a professional camera for ENG, doc, and broadcast work. If a shallow DOF is all you're after, then a 7D is right for you.
@al420ful Oh? You must work for Canon, then? The point is, DSLR's work as video cameras for certain things, but not for all things. Cameras like the JVC offer a different feature set for professionals that need them.
DO NOT BUY GY HM-700 it is the same as HD 110 SOME LOOK MEMEBER IT IS NOT THE CAMERA IT IS THE CAMERA MAN . YOU CAN GET THE SOME LOOK WITH $3000 CAMERA
Thats highly debatable. Are you implying that the film industry shouldn't shoot on 300,000 dollar IMAX cameras, because they're not much better than 35mm? Those of us who like watching video and film on the big screen appreciate every tiny bit of quality we can get. 35mbps is a huge step for the video world.
Agreed. Although with cameras like the RED Scarlet series with resolutions as high as 9K (just about kills IMAX res) and 28K the industry is slowly moving into digital. In fact we have seen a lot of newer material come in at my company on solid state drives or conversions from RED, XDcam, and P2.
Uhh no, this camera does 1080p amongst other features that are not available on the older models. Furthermore the spatial offset on this camera to get to 1080p is a lot less than that on lower cost cameras, because this camera is native 1280 X 720, while something less expensive like the Panasonic HMC150 is only 960 X 520. Also the choice of lenses is much better with the JVC while with fixed lens cameras you're stuck with the stock lens and will have to use adapters. Do a bit more research.
Well said. By the way, I'm a full time film student, so I spend my fair share of time drooling over the RED website. 28K! Holy mother of god. When it comes to price vs. performance though, I'm pretty sure the JVC is the best band for the buck when it comes to 1080p. Plus since I'm on a Macbook Pro, you can't beat SD card for editing!
Same here, except I graduated. I prefer editing on AVID so if I decide on this camera (can't afford 28K RED), I'll have to get the SxS adapter to unlock the .MP4 wrapper otherwise I'll be kicking myself in the face toying around with the trasncoder. BTW the show I work for shot some stuff on RED 4K recently and I was watching it as it was being processed and it was amazing, it really does a good job at mimicking film, though you need to shoot 5K to get 35mm res because of Bayer pattern.
Fortunately (or unfortunately for those of us trained on ARRIFLEXs and such) the movie-going world is getting more accustomed to the look and feel of video opposed to film. Even though I love and appreciate film as an art form, no one can argue that it is a dying medium. I think the technical world should embrace video, stop focusing so much on trying to make it look like film and focus more on telling good stories. Not that I'm against 3 inch image sensors, though. lol!
I totally agree with you. What's the big deal with trying make all this new age Technology look like film. Film is FOR SURE dying because the digital world is going to bring so much amazing stuff that film won't be able to. Film will be just a thing of the past.
very intersting, I just shot some footage with this camera but the videos are now playing back on my computer. It is a .mov file, but in Inspector the format is XD CAM EX? I guess i dont have that codec what do I do to have the video play in QT Pro and FCP??

@mogwix dude u r wrong this camera not only mused for broadcasting it is also used for filming do a search and u will see that

@al420ful it could be used for filming, definitely, but perhaps a 7D would be a better choice for that.
