I miss the NY and working in the harbor .. I too am a merchant marine, but was convicted of a felony in 07.. I have not touched the water since.. I worked on the water for 18 years.. maybe one day I will get back there
Two weeks on, two weeks off, you lose half your life on the water. The average worker only loses one third of his life at work and has free time every day. Sounds like a hard life. Kinda like a fireman. Why not just do 8 hour days? Or even four, ten hour days? The system must work. They've been doing it since the first ship sailed, I imagine. I'm surprised the companies haven't tried to do away with something that works. It's shocking really. They've ruined everything else.
great job i must have missed this one as i know john is on another boat and jack has moved on to another company. You're starting to look likke your father John, lay of the bryiers ice cream lol.Capt John was instermental i my career as a tug capt. he helped me out when i started at Eklof on deck,I will always have fond thoughts when i think of working with john or his dad Jack smooth salin Jeff
My compliments to whomever it may concern. What a great short film... I'm also in favor of never removing this video from YouTube. Thanks for filming it, for it was a pleasure to watch... As for the Falcon, and her crew, I wish you fair winds, following seas, & many a star filled nights... Capt. Mitchell

Thanks for the vid guys. 95 memerories of Boston Harbor flood back along with those dreaded 2 am call outs. Russ always said it was easy to find people willing to go yachting during the spring and summer months. I signed on in Feb and never looked back or thought twice. Now I look back and question why I ever left that lifestyle and propably will question that until I pass.
BAY STATE TOWING. Yeah I went to sea with RUSS TRIPP. Boston ROCKS! If there was a captain I ever gave 100 percent respect and trust too it would be Russ Tripp. I'd sail to to ASIA with that guy as captain. Then sail home. BEST TUG Captain by far!
My wife's father, George Kehoe, just passed away a few days ago. He was 78. He and his brothers, Clayton and Martin operated the Kehoe tugs in NY Harbor, as well as the NY and VT inland canal system. I was researching for videos today to find a good video to use in a multimedia presentation at a family gathering we are having after his funeral.
With your permission, I would like to use this video as the center of that presentation. Thank you on behalf of the Kehoe family in Vermont.
I love this video! It's very rare that I get to get a glimpse in side of a tug, and this 10 minute glimpse was great! However, was that "Perfect Storm" music I heard? lol :D
THis is a work o art and truly amazing..yes i too would have loved to see this awesome clip longer. I work on tugs and it makes me miss it. I loved this vidoe and have watched it about ten times
My name is Don Shappelle from wilkes barre,pa.and part time Perryville,md.I just watched your tugboat video and wanted to say how much I enjoyed it,wish it was longer! But you packed a whole lot of the human side of this work in several minutes.I have always loved the world of tugs,I get to see quite a few down in the northern part of the chesapeake bay. Any way once again want to say what a fine piece of work your short film is.thanks and sincerely, don shappelle.

my grandfather was also a skipper back around the turn of the 20th century, a hundred years ago.
i never carried on the tradition, as was spoken here on the video.
i respect people who work on tugs and see in them sometimes the way that they talk and think, my father.
thank you for this video.

I just got a flashback of my father when I saw the engineer sitting in front of the tv late at night.
i loved standing an all night watch and just talking, smoking a cigarette.
my dad passed away in 1977.
i never worked on boats as a career.
