He stumbled at the start. Nobody ever talks about that when talking about this race. Profoundly under appreciated horse. He wins back to back classics if on dirt. It's a shame a true dirt horse can't be himself in this age of synthetics. That said shit call by Durkin.
This was SUCH an exciting year as far as Triple Crown races go...Street Sense from 18th and Rags winning the Belmont...and of course this!
Durkin getting more and more excited as they come down the stretch: "Coming up to the finish, Street Sense - Here comes Curlin, Curlin surging...Street Sense in deep water - TOO CLOSE TO CALL! TOO CLOSE TO CALL!" Gah. Gives me chills every time I hear it.
Curlin has very big huge strides, I can see his strides weren't as fast acceleration as Street sense but he sure did come up to get there. And It did look like SS was gonna get there, his strides to me were more impressive, but it just goes to show that curlin was being a little stubborn i kinda think.
Jeez, I forgot how close this race was. I think 2007 was a great year for the TC, as all three races were immensely exciting. Hard to pick a favorite.
I've always thought that. I mean there was no chance of a TC after the Preakness, but I've never had so much adrenaline pumping during the stretches. This race was immensly exciting, and I was full-on screaming at my TV during the Belmont.
I couldn't agree more, curlin was amazing in this race and so was Street sense, and Hard Spun. This year was my favourite year for the triple crown of maybe since Point given.
@jeffregina.......... borel looks back, because he's just realizing he blew the triple crown. SS would have won this race, but at 5:22 borel made the biggest mistake in triple crown history. he did not take the rail. it was wide open. and it cost him. again he looks back because right than his horse was done. and curlin with those long strides was cruising to victory and off to set records in earnings. borel was the first to know how great curlin would be.lol
Both horses ran a huge race!No one deserved to lose,I think they tied (or came very close at the very least)the Stakes record time. These two were very close in running ability. Street Sense took Curlin in the K-Derby,then they had this epic meeting, and later Curlin got Street Sense in the BB Classic. The only thing disappointing about that was the horrid track conditions. But oh well everyone had to run on it. I think it did compromise Street's chances though. TWO GREAT HORSES!!!!!
all right ok you made your point. I'm sorry that I misunderstood, its a very easy thing to do you know ;) Its just that over here, most people dont call the best horses in the world, bad, even if it really means good.
Again, my apologies, but really, did you have to get so nasty about it? All you had to do was explain what you meant. You did that, but you couldnt leave it at that...
right Curlin... a bad horse...... thats why he won the Dubai World Cup & thats why he IS the best horse in the world XD You're right he is a bad horse lol... enough said

manie, that is steeple-chasing. Nothing compared to those races?? You loose about half the field from bad steps or break downs.
