this band opened doors for my band and other Canadian metal bands if it was not for them my band Lilith Of Death would not be doing what we like doing
lol @ deathcore kids. I'm a death metal fan (Autopsy, Dismember, Entombed) and don't really listen to thrash anymore, but even with the TERRIBLE quality of the mix on this song, you can tell the guitarist is absolutely fantastic at his trade. This song wipes the floor with any deathcore band's entire discography. Sorry deathcore kids, you're not br00tal, just st00pid.
@Tapewormz lol brutal and raw?you crazy?brutal and raw = hardcore, not fucking thrash metal...this is for 4 year-old kids...why don't any of you try to search for some new bands, not this old shit that sound like a thrash can...go top 10 deathcore bands or what ever just don't listen to this old crap
@xBickox Little kids like you who are just cutting their teeth on heavy metal have no clue. When you mature, you'll understand. Until that day comes, you'll just be another worthless black metal bitch sucking on your moms hairy tit and wearing face paint so you can look just like Tammy Fae Baker(now Messner) when she got busted.
And FYI, when Voivod first hit the scene they were classified as Speed Metal not Thrash.
@Tapewormz lol black metal sucks...there are differences between hardcore and standard metal(heavy,death,black...), f*uck those face paints,it's rt...I got like 2 more years till I'm mature so don't talk to me like I'm 12 or what ever...dude this was cool in like 80' 90'...now it's like a f*cking 2011! new bands are coming and they deserve a chance...
@xBickox Right, new bands are coming out and the music is evolving. However that's not what you first said when you outright attacked me for enjoying this song and this band. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's not good or valid. Afterall, the new bands you're talking about are heavily influenced by their piers which happen to be bands such as motorhead, iron maiden, voivod etc...
There is something about their music that has an inherent FUCK YOU coming from it that is so awesome and different about them compared to anything else, eh?
love it. thanks for posting. so glad i saw them in 2003 at ozzfest. "sharp scream, the end is always near, i want to drop my pants!" thank you jason for realizing awesome thrash!!!
This was a great fucking show at a great venue, Such a shame that the Spectrum is no more. So many great memories of great shows there over the years. As a side note a few years after this album Voi Vod played a great show at porter hall in ottawa with two lesser known bands opening for them, Faith No More and Soundgarden. So many bands owe so much to these guys. RIP Piggy
GREAT SONG/GREAT ALBUM!!!!!!!!!! brings back many great memories from way back in the day.
it's depressing though to think about how most of my friends from back in those days have ruined their lives from felony convictions, domineering wives, bible thumping, etc...
hail to all of those who have kept their fighting spirit alive and are doing well without having lost their proper perspective on what it means to be alive.
WOW i like most of Vod's music but this era is my favorite. The live parts of this video where filmed at the Spectrum in montreal and as always it was a great show. Sadly the venue is no longer but lots of memories from the Old days.
I always loved Blacky's custom Liberatore bass with all the spiky shit on it - apparently Away, the drummer, designed all the guitar bodies for the band.
Could never work out why he needed a whammy bar on it, though!
Awesome. One of the classic videos from the old Doomsday News VHS video. I bought my VHS copy back in 1994 and I've had it ever since. Classic video. Hail Voivod. RIP, Piggy.
Ooohhh, hells yes! I remember Voi Vod fondly, and "Killing Technology" is still one of my very favorite albums from back in the 80s. This is a damned good album too, and I still have my vinyl version in my archives. Memories!
Alawys loved the early VoiVod. first 3 lps were classics. Love the rawness and heaviness.
Check out another band who starts with a "v", Baltimore's VSD for some old school metal. recorded live in 1987, VSD- Phantasmagoria, Mental Breakdown, the classice Kill your Kids , and 2 other songs on youtube now.
One of my all time favorites. This is them at their rawest. For those who are complaining saying its shit, these guys were and are one of the legends that started it all. Keep in mind that this was only their 2nd album and that they were still young and refining their skill. Unless you can appreciate the old sound and beginnings from back in the day when Metal was in its infancy, you wont be able to respect this. Also, they are Cyber Thrash and therefore have a different style.
i think you listen only to the sound quality and not the actual notes being played, this music is badass. go listen to some in da club or trivium bullshit chickenshit
EmporerReagan: While I understand your point, I would like to say that in both cases for this video, the notes being played, and the quality of the sound, in my opinion, is that of soft-serve-stool.
Also, I do not enjoy R&B. I do not think you have an understanding of the word trivium, as you used it out of context:
Trivium: (Middle Ages) an introductory curriculum at a medieval university involving grammar and logic and rhetoric; considered to be a triple way to eloquence
He means Trivium, the band that began as metalcore and as the trend of metalcore began to decline and the rise of thrash metal come again, the jump on the wagon and claim themselves to be thrash just for playing a more metallica-exodus-esque oriented metalcore, anyways no excuse to made insults like 2grade children, anyways Voivod was in the beggining a thrash-punk oriented metal band, now they play a more progressive experimental type of metal, too bad,I would enjoy more a blend of the 2 periods.
War and Pain is the shit. I'll never forget Snake pulling one of my arms and the bouncer on the other in Branford ct. It was just the encore anyways after all day with snake backstage eating Tom G.W. food too. Snake said FUCK HIM!!!! EATTTTTTTTT. Cool as fuck Video. Thx.....
Me gusta éste disco (RRRROOOAAAARRRR) lo escuché por primera vez en Septiembre de 1986, me influenció bastante a la hora de frasear mis letras. Todavía me gusta el sonido de éste disco.
I like parts of the music, but it´s just a bit too messy for my taste. And the singer is awful! I wanted to like it so much, that i bought the album, yes - LP, back in the 80´s, spending my hard earned money, but this never grew on me. Nice to be reminded of those times though... "good times, bad times, you know i get my share".
RROOAARR! is a killer album. THe vocals, drums & guitar effects are very Venom influenced. To me Dimension Hatross is when they came out with their own signature sound/style. This album just ripped though for the non-progressive fans.
Hell, that's a lot of discussion on genres. Just stick to the bands you like. However, I will point out that thrash metal started as a sort of metal heavily influenced by punk. In fact, the band credited with writing the first thrash song ever has recorded covers of the ramones, the dead boys, etc. And all their original members' nicknames were a reference to a punk artist (I'm talking about Overkill here).
check out the Dillinger escape plan (CD "calculating infinity"). I think it's the only hope of metal these days (maybe together with Pig Destroyer and some other grindcore bands).
.....Saying Dillinger isn't metal is one thing... saying they "suck ass" is just fucking ignorant...
First off, Metal is a culture not a specific type of music. Secondly, the term "Metal" covers tons of sub genres of heavy, aggressive and even soft melodic pieces of music. Third, grind-core is a huge part of that culture. And lastly, bands like Dillinger Escape Plan, Between the Buried and ME and other extremely technical (math-core, if you will) bands are certainly pushing the culture forward.
If you cant wrap your head around Dillinger, that's fine, just don't go around slagging some of the best/original musicians in this day and age. With so much having been done before it's almost impossible to be completely unique... DEP sounds only like DEP and no one else, that alone should be given the respect it deserves.

I only have downloaded a few songs by Voivod. I'm not really a big fan of em as of now, but watching these videos on YouTube make me want to get one of their albums. I'm going to get Katorz.
mickbynes, if you like these songs on youtube you'll their older albums better I think. Katorz isn't that good Imo. Try 'Killing Technology' for the heavier stuff and 'The Outer Limits' for a more spacy theme.
i got to eat dinner with them and got to sit in their tour bus and hung out backstage with piggy before a show once. piggy was a really nice guy.....r.i.p.
German Pretenders Running Wild?!! They are definately not a very consistent band and are a little obvious with their Judas Priest influence. However you got to give the band credit for the Death and Glory album, sheer brilliance! I uploaded a video from that album here on You Tube, check it out.
Back when people dressed cool.

I only have downloaded a few songs by Voivod. I'm not really a big fan of em as of now, but watching these videos on YouTube make me want to get one of their albums. I'm going to get Katorz.
mickbynes 5 years ago
mickbynes, if you like these songs on youtube you'll their older albums better I think. Katorz isn't that good Imo. Try 'Killing Technology' for the heavier stuff and 'The Outer Limits' for a more spacy theme.

German Pretenders Running Wild?!! They are definately not a very consistent band and are a little obvious with their Judas Priest influence. However you got to give the band credit for the Death and Glory album, sheer brilliance! I uploaded a video from that album here on You Tube, check it out.

From a Noise Records video compiliation called Doomsday News, it was released in 1990. It was this video that made me a Voivod fan.
