It should pull it right out. Well, Im certain the instruction manual is somewhere in the kitchen. Enjoy your meal.
I have run across an opener of that type where the the small connector piece was missing so that when you pushed down, there was no upward force on the cork.

Awww you guys are cute together, his dancing is adorable. You guys look like fun to cook with and hang out with :) Hehehe the wine was funny, I work in an expensive restaurante with a lot of wine choices and I always have to open bottles with an opener way harder than that one, but his attempt reminded me of holidays with my mom and it would take 2 of us to open a bottle (one to hold and one to pull, lol) But now I'm a pro, so if Jason needs a teacher, lol, I can help :)
