  • Got one for sale!

  • wahowwww it sounds nice!!!!

  • Nice Sounds!!! do you have this sounds in Syssex for sharing???

    Thanks and congratulations!!

  • Superior evergreen classic synth.

  • 4:40 : AMAZING !!!! i want this patch !!!!!

  • Great patches! I have a TG77 tone generator controlled by a DX7s.

  • Lousy vid quality, but that doesn't mean a thing as it sounds great. So many people get this backwards. Nice patches on a cool synth too.

  • great synth, excellent voices!

  • the strings pad at 1:34 sounds great. I have an SY77 could you tell me how you achieved this (wonder if it uses the '99's better quality effects to make it sound so good?)

  • what a great sound !!!

  • Great synth! High-quality sounds! I like it's el pianos - so beautiful and quality soft sound! Very beautiful performance! Thank you!

  • what are the notes?

    please

    Let me know the notes

  • Really nice. I love my SY99 too... but am fixing to sell it to pick up the new Motif XF7. Check out my SY99 demo on this site.

  • Lush superb FM Pianos. No one has better FM Pianos than the Yamaha

  • what great sounds... for worship music.. I have tears in my eyes.. any module version of this grt synth.. cause its very heavy.. had a motif Xs6.. sold it.. that was heavy too... but these Eps are AWESOME... thanks... strangely I play somwhat in the same style.. cheers..

  • Nice sounding chords

  • What you played at 17 seconds, is that Deep Forest?

  • 0:39 the classic well used FM piano is so beautiful. It's like all our seaside lakeside dreams where the sun is shining and we are with that someone special just enjoying each others company without a care in the world, like a little touch of heaven. Thanks for posting.

  • Great to see this. Hopefully you still have it. Sadly, the SY99 is almost a forgotten synth. Great sounds, but came our right when samplers got popular.

  • lovly sounds good work on this great keyboard do you have it still???

  • God I regret selling mine... Gorgeous sounds.

  • Just too pretty sounding for me.

  • Awesome Synth. Have a Motif ES6, too. But the DX-E-Piano Sound never found on it , like it Sounds on the Yamaha PSR-520 ( 13 yo ) . Iam searching for it....Great Synth

  • @Schnevern ma

i had a motif xs 6 sold it because of the weight... i heard the Sy 99 once,, man what super EP sounds.. .. igreat synth for worship music... but back breaking.. 19 kgs frm what i remember... ne module version of this great instrument..

  • Beautiful electric piano sound of the third patch 0:37, i want an SY99!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, really it´s a jewel, hi from mexico, sorry if my english is fragile

  • Awesome Synth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great music, great musician!!! Sounds are just amazing and perfect!!!

  • One of the best synths ever made! Nice playing my man!

  • thats crying type of music ur playing

  • i have sy77 and one year ago motif es6

things changing and having a es6 is like having 100 sy77......

  • Impresionante ... yo que pensaba que los Fm pianos que usaba el tecladista de Luis Miguel eran del KORG M1 y la verdad que me equivoque... los mismos de este suenan igual!!!

  • WOW! It sounds really warm and smooth! The pads are amazingly lush, NOT something I've heard before in Korg or Kurzweil, except the OASYS. That's the ONLY keyboard I can think of that actually sounds better than this.

But I wasn't expecting the SY99/77 to be THIS good. I knew it was good, but this is really mind-blowing. I gotta get me one of these now! It'll compliment the OASYS beautifully!

  • First chord sounded exactly like West End Girls.

  • yes.

  • Im curious, I wonder y they dont use ep's in r&b anymore? Is it that they sound 'dated" as i said in a earlier reply? Hmm, so damn sad. The rnb I write to this will have ep's in it. I will never let ep's die. Esp FM ep's

    MCP

  • PS, the beginning (0:00 to 0:14) pattern with the strings/pad sounds like the beginning of a 90's rnb song. I'm thinking...

I cant remember if it was jodecy, shai, rkelly. damn this is bugging me... "freak me" maybe silk? damnit.

  • I have always been a fan of the sy99 since I was 19 yrs old back in the early 90's.

I drooled over this at sam ash in cherry hill nj.

I couldnt believe it was $4300 new. But it is amazing to me how popular this was in 1990's R&B music.

I would like to know if I am right that this was used by boys to men and babyface?

Beautiful board. FM synthesis was so popular in the 80s' & 90's. I wish it was used more now but it has a 'dated sound' to me anymore

  • 1:48 sounds like vp330 strings.

  • Also the pad at 6.57

  • It's a patch made by the mix of a standard choir sampled waveform and a FM sine-like pad

  • @piladex whats the poin of using samples on synth?

  • The pad from 8.12 is is a winner: complex, textured, spiralling. What's that about the SY sounding thin?

  • It's a mix of a sampled synthstring ad a warm double octave FM pad, plus chorus and reverb

  • that electric piano sounds gorgeous....can i get something like that on my sy85?

  • What is the name of the first song please?

  • @ mad cobra if you think the fm ep's are nice try an ex series yamaha using fdsp synthesis. remarkable.

  • Excellent Sounds for a older keyboard

  • Sorry I also forgot to mention when I was 19 years old, drooling over this in the sam ash store in Cherry Hill NJ because the price was $4000 !

  • PS, I have to say... IMO, Yamaha has always had the best electric piano's ever.

And i am Rolands biggest supporter.

FM systhesis produces the best EP again, IMO.

I'm surious why they dont use EP's in R&B much anymore.

  • 1990'S R&B for sure. SY99 played a BIG part in it.

  • for some reason, it reminds me of Windows Vista.

  • Has a much warmer sound than I expected--nice.

  • Perhaps sy99 is better if well programmed. programming is very difficult but after strog works you can obtain good original sounds. I don't know how work k2500 or korg 01/wfd, only heared some sounds...

  • @piladex I also have an SY99. Would you please tell me how I can get the FM electric pianos that you played at 40 secs and also at 3min 35 secs. thank you, jacker53

  • What do you think, which of these synthesizers is better ?

    YAMAHA SY99,

    Kurzweil K2500 and KORG 01/WFD

  • they are all very different, sy99 and the rest are incomparable. but between the korg and the kurzweil definitely the Kurzweil

  • I Loved the sound of the SY99...AWM2 Architecture with FM synthesis as well...Truly awesome...I have a few keyboards....Yamaha SY85, SCI prophet 2000, yamaha CP30 (classic EP) Wurlitzer A200. Alesis QS 8.1 and my newest the M-Audio Keystation 88 pro....Have a few modules too...peavey DPM SP with DPM SX... two Roland JV 880's I love my gear

  • I love also SY85. The acoustic piano is better then the one present in the SY99

  • I had an SY85, was an awsome synth till someone stole it from the studio where i was working at the time!

  • i was inspired by all italian music, there is not a particular song composer i refered to. I made a pure improvvisation. Perhaps in italian music most of the chord sequences are the same i played in my video, but it's a simple coincidence...

  • First chords on this video i already heard but don't remember where, some kind of Austrian or Italian old music, please help me find out what the composer.

  • Comment removed

  • Nice sounds !! are they factory sounds or did you program them ?

  • i start with factory presets, and i modified them to obtain total different sounds. i spent days on days to program it...

  • why not sale in sabah malaysia? I'd like this sound but unable to find this product to my country.

  • This is a legend synthesizer back from the early 90's.!!!

If you could ever find one to buy then you may consider yourself like winning the Lotto.

I want one too. Good luck in your quest.

  • in europe is still avaiable as used instrument. i also bought it used some years ago...

  • Sure is but it' a rare piece.

I'm looking at e-bay from time to time but i can't find anything. Only manuals and preset banks.

And btw , I'm from Europe. More specific I'm from Greece.

  • I love it !!!! where can we get all pressets you playing ? THANK YOU for your video !!!

  • Great! I very like Yamaha. I play on yamaha too. :) 5/5

  • Please do more of the videos with the SY99. This is great. What a marvelous synth. Probably the best digital synthesizers of all time set aside from the DX7.

  • dont forget the Roland classics such as the D50 and JD800/990.

  • i say not to forget also a classic digital piano such as roland rd1000...do you remember it?

  • Thanks a lot for restoring my faith in FM synthesis. I don't think you realize the effect you have on the keyboard players that view your videos. I gave up a Korg Triton Extreme for an SY99. Very hard to find one.

  • You actually blew me away with this video.

    I just bouhgt a SY-99 myself.

    I love these sounds !

  • whats that piano called at 1:03 is it electric piano?

  • it is a classic electric piano that you can tipically find in fm sinths like dx7.

    It's called "dx piano"

  • five stars video!! I love DX7 and SY99

  • I have a SY55 with every expansion card apart from Drums 1 and House & Latin. It's a great synth but I would love the SY99 for sure!!!

    Nice demo!

  • I had an SY99 when they first came out.

DX7II "WITH FILTERS" + the whole AWM side and you could modulate one with the other.

What a great board. Pain in the but when you break a key though. :) Lot's of screws to take off.

To this day Yamaha has yet to make a board with a better interface. Maybe with the Motif XS, but a lot of unhappy customers on that one...

These SY99's are hard to find used. No one will let go of them. :)

  • most excellent sound @ 4:38. any chance I could get the sysex for that ? "; - )

  • one of best digital sounds, analogic:another planet.

  • I wouldn't be without mine...

  • Great synth! I own the little brother, the SY77. FM at it's maximum power

  • Ah ma parli italiano... mi sono accorto adesso ahahaha

  • The preset you use at 0:37 sound a lot like a Dennis Deyoung(Styx) sound used in Babe.

  • It's because it's rhodes piano.

  • I have SY99, Memorymoog & Jupiter 6

  • You son of a bitch.

  • SY99 makes nice controller too. I'm rebuilding the keyboard on mine. It's completely disassembled to completely clean and re-grease all 76 keys and put new felt on underneath keys & the strip above. It's gonna play like new with great action when I get done!

  • Lol

  • well done!

even the rhodes sounds as better on an mk1 yam, nice jobe!

  • Hi,i have a sy99,m1,01w/fd but the sy99

is very good synth ,very good sounds...

    it's flagship.....

  • SY99 and 01/Wfd, nice combination, top of 1991

  • The e-pianos are fantastic!!!!!!

  • Very fantastic Sounds. Like it very much. I dream i had one...And a great player..

  • It sounds out of this world run L+R in stereo. With the panning capability the sound is full and moving swimming from left to right in the speakers. SY99 FM layered with analog Memorymoog & MKS-70 is very inspiring. You can achieve depth + character of sound modern instruments can't even touch.

  • You might be right about modern software but, I was wondering if you might know if these presets have been "ported" to software. I know that EMU have done it with some of their hardware like the Proteus MK1, but I'm not sure if Yamaha have done it. I have an SY55 and I would like to send the presets to a VST via SYSEX dumps. It would be great if you could help :)

  • Help!!!SY77 y SY99 = DX21,DX11,V50??????

  • SY77 y SY99 = DX7II.

  • Well, DX7II + a ton of AWM samples and I think more FX.

  • Odlicna sprava.Molim te reci mi jel ta sprava ima DX boje?
