TVB + Hong Kong are the best in making Wuxia TV series and stick the closest to the original novel. The mainland ones rely on too much fancy computer effects whilst TVB ones focus more on drama and acting skills.

i think the best version was the 2000 TVB, i don't know about this one though, i watched it cause i wanna see how ady an acts in this one, I love her acting with Van Ness in Autumn's Concerto, best taiwanese drama of the year! woot!

As an overall, this adaption of HSDS isn't all too bad. I personally enjoyed it much better than the 2003 version. I'll say, Ady is my second favourite ZM after Kitty Lai. She wasn't cartoony like Alyssia Chia and not too ruthless and ignorant as Gigi Lai's portrayal. She handled all the emotions and characteristics extremely well.

well Yang Guo was the strongest Warior, he had the largest qi energy

Kwee cheng was the strongest warior at his ages when he was young at legend of the shooting heroes not at Yang Guo story.

The yellow lady in the HSDS was Yang quo decendent and she was completed the ciu yin sen jing manual, and she could beat every one easily means ........Yang Guo was the strongest.

@r0m4 zzzz yang guo didnt give jiu yin zhen jing to the yellow lady..... yang guo and xiao long nu travel to other part of the world. dragon sabre and heaven sword was cr8ted by huang rong and guo jing. Inside contains jiu ying zhen jing and the manual for war. Emei sect was cr8ted by Guo xiang, the daughter of Guo jing.

I think she's the 2nd best Zhoe Ming to the one in the '86 version by TVB. Though that series had terrible special effects compared to the 2003 version, but the acting is much, much better. Alec Su can't act nor can he even look like he can fight. I think the choreographer or director of that series should be executed along with Alec Su. China is quite good at that. Moreover, on this '09 version, the main male character doesn't look as well as the ones before him, but the special effects R nice.

@TVBAngel I never liked that one.....I think it's overdramatic....like how she can fly at the beginning....alec su acting style is alway the same - heroic and it got on my nerves...the son who is suppose to be 10 looks like he's 16....the son (alec su) looks exactly like his dad but no one notice So many things and it bugs me so I never finish watching it

Everything is good about The Heavenly Sword and the Dragon Sabre except the hero Zhang WuJi, despite being powerful than Yang Guo and Guo Jing, is a pussy who is always being manipulated by beautiful ladies around him.

Is this the same producer that direct return of condor heroes and sword stain w/ royal blood, Tian Long Ba Bu?.. All these movies have very excellent choreography..in fact compare to other movies his movies got the best picture. but it lacks chemistry.. His movies focus too much on kung fu that they forgot the chemistry..for ex ROCH 1995 ..for me it was really touching..but the 2006 version the kung fu is good but the chemistry wasn't as good as the older versions

I agreed with joeropiko, so far all Zhang Jizhong's Jin Yong adaptations are very faithful with the original novel. I wouldn't expect any less than his previous works. Though it will be hard to beat 1986 version.

As always the visual effects look very good, but I hope the cast, acting, and script will be a lot better than those of the prior remakes. Hopefully, the won't put a bunch of Taiwanese and mainland Chinese actors together and have them read their lines. Finally, let's hope the script is much more straight to the point and that it is not written for 2nd graders or some idiots in China.
