  • normally they have no more than 2 or 3 on the front end. If there are more than that it's because the other units are being towed to the nearest shop for maintenance. I should know because I'm an electrician for NS. FRA regulations will only allow no more than 24 live axles to operate on the front end. Normally it's 12 or 18

  • If you notice the last 3 units were not on line. They were dead units. They probably had mechanical or electrical trouble on them. If they are good units the crews would drop them off in a yard to pull for another train.
