We played this song at contest...and to say the least, we could've done better. We still did good, but a good portion of my band seems to think that the only reason that we got Gold was because I performed the flute solo (Which may very well be true, because a quarter of my band DOES suck, notably much of the trumpet/clarinet sections). I'm not dissing on Clarinet/Trumpet players, but in my experience, it always seems to be them that ruin my band experience.

@shinglesofzeflute usually in my band it's the percussion and third trumpet (first trumpet btw), but in this song we're doing ok-ish. Way better than when we did the lord of the dance. yeah, i know we're an advanced eigth grade band, but still...it was very tough.

We're learning this song in band too! I play the flute part, plus the Solo. (Since I'm first Chair in our band. :) Thing is though, this song is immensely stressful for flute players without swift fingers, tonguing, and a lot of patience. Fortunately for me, I'm advanced enough of a player to have learned this with 4 hours of solid practice. I'm not so sure how the remainder of our flute section will handle it, though, since only about half of them are at my level, and we got this 2 days ago.

@shinglesofzeflute It's not that hard of a piece though... The hardest part for me, anyway, wasn't the notes or the rhythms, but counting in 5-4 time. I'm first chair too, but I know how you feel about the rest of the flute section having difficulties with it. It seems like they never actually want to play, let alone sound good. The solo part is fun. :)

This is so amazing! The 7th and 8th grade band are going to be playing this for the spring. I'm playing the clarinet for this piece and so far it's quite fun. I can't wait for it to be completed!
