Considering how Vita has quad core GPU of a old design (PowerVR SGX543), I think smartphone's GPU will catch up by next year. A PowerVR Series 6 GPU is being released Feb 2012, and only a dual core of Series 6 will probably beat quad core of SGX543 (Series 5 model).

However the device may have some great mechanics and stuff..
