I know people think open headers are the way to build HP and torque but in most applications it is best to run them with the collector. I also realize most people think open headers means without the muffler and that is not the case. I think I see collectors on this set up so not real open headers. Pulse and scavenging with collectors means a much better HP build. Some wide out dragsters benefit from open headers but most cars don't this is dyno proven BTW.
i used to have a stock 302 in my 1979 f150 with only headers no muffler and they sound really good it sounded stroked but it wasnt, i pulled it out and put in a punched out 400 cid its 60 over and got 501 lift cam with sum edelbrock performer intake sound good but i think the 302 i had sounded better but power= :)
it's cool... yeah, it kinda pisses me off that ford didn't just cut the crap and go all the way up to 289 cubes. would've made a helluva lot more sense, performance-wise and nostalgically. lol.
well dijesslover, it acutally will, people don't want to admit it but over time as you are continuously starting and killing and starting and killing the motor, it will warp the headers at the mounts. as you're running the car the headers obviously get hot, but when you kill the motor, cold air will rush in the pipes and the sudden change of temperature will warp the headers.
yeah uhh how cold is the air where you race??? 40 degrees F?? 50 60 70 80 will nbkot affect them at all. plus most people who race their cars rebuild the complete engine every winter.
yeah it will, normal air temperature, is considerably cooler than the air, running throught the head and out the exhaust. i should rephrase though i said it would warp the headers but i meant it would warp the valves. not too good for the heads.
no more hp if im correct. the engine still needs a little backpressure. It may give it a little more but like thing503 said, it will screw up the headers
u can't run it for a long time. it makes a shitload less restriction so it runs lean. people usually take them off to see how they sound. i ran headers alone (for a week) on my bike i didn't experience any warpage and the distance between exhaust port to end on header is shorter than this.obviously i had my carbs retuned, jets needles and fuel screws so i woudln't run it lean and end up with a burnt valve or predetonation/involountary combustion
What i dont get is if its open headers ware are the dueal exahust hooked up to cause all i saw was the headers and i didnt see the exahust hooked up to anything but i still herd sound com out of the exahust
Actually it's a 4.6 block "idiot". It's a Modular motor with a stroker kit, not just bored out, please don't be an asshole to people with simple questions.
hey I need some help I have a 351 bolck and 302 heads I wanted to add a turbo to it but it already has alot of compretion and I worried I will blow my shit up.
Oh i get it. The motorcycle was on the whole time. . Not the mustang.

4stroke engines dont require backpressure only 2 stroke.. allot of people think that lol

Is that 2 o2s going into one plug??
Its not as simple as split and cut with single o2 vehicles, is it?
To convert to dual? Readings would be all of right?

@longgone13 Well the 4.6 liter was possibly the worst motor ever created so....
Rustin2000 1 year ago
@Rustin2000 I believe the chevy 305 was the worst
paraskeet 1 year ago
@paraskeet Pretty much the same story with nearly any chevy lol. the 306 was a turd.
350 small block was aight though.
Rustin2000 1 year ago
@Rustin2000 Are you serious? That motor kicks ass. It's been used with so many other manufacturers as a result of its great success.

dude the camshaft is making to sound like that................
warrior102 4 years ago
would it make a difference in sound if its a stroker or not? Because i own a 67 stang with a 302 with open headers and it sounded a lot different
Sprchrged04 4 years ago
maybe the fact that his motor is modular and yours isnt
xmysignature 4 years ago
Thats nota mod motor...its a friggin 302
ScottF250 4 years ago
Oops Yeah it is.Ill go chew on my other foot for awhile! :-)
ScottF250 4 years ago
so what your saying is that some how he got a smaller push rod motor and stroked it to a 302. It is a mod motor taken from a 281 to a 302.
badausf 3 years ago
yes the stroker makes all the diff
