I LOVE how the M40A5 looks like without any scopes, just the iron sights, and I often choose it when I want to play Recon class aggresively at close quarters combat. And without scopes it feels like I'm using a WW2 rifle in bf3 :))

I don't know if the rifle is not letting you shoot when zooming with the sv98 but you clearly wait after zooming with it compared to the m40 therefore I think the two would be the same if you did not wait after zooming!

@carlosamigosAUS nope, he's not doing it on purpose. to pull the bolt, you have to scope out first, and then there is a delay before you scope back in. the length of the delay depends on the gun. however, theres an attachment called Straight Pull Bolt that allows you to pull the bolt while staying scoped, though :)

Watch how long he is aiming down the sight with the sv98 before he fires compared to the m40, he shoots instantly once zoomed with the m40 but doesn't seem to with the sv98. Don't have the m40 yet that's why I asked, I have not noticed any delay when I fire after zooming the sv98 it though. Got my silver star for the sv98, acog, pull bolt and silencer are my preferred operation metro setups! crackedraptor, PC, squad up sometime ;)

you don't need a high rate of fire as a sniper if you are firing that fast there is an issue. If you want a fast firing sniper get a semi auto rifle cause if you are fire that fast the target isn't that far away.

bullets travel faster for the barrett which means measuring bullet drop is alot easier i would say use barrett for maps with more extreme ranges and m4oa5 for closer areas

not one of you know how to use the "description" . It already tells you this information... SV98 fires a 7.62x54mmr... same size bullet as the M40A5 but a slightly longer cartridge packed with more grain. The bullet fires at a greater muzzle velocity and would carry more damage but the recoil(as per the programers in dice)the M40A5 fires a 7.62x51mm nato round. smaller cartridge, less possible amount of grain, less muzzle velocity, faster rate of fire.

All rifles are good. I think the M40A5 excels at close ranged due to its fast reload and low interval in between shots. Obviously the M98 is one of the better rifles for range, and the SV98 and L96 are more or less the M40A5 with different properties(such as higher bullet speed). I use the M40A5 for it's fast reload speed, I snipe at around 50-250 meters, anything over that isn't usually worth the time(SNIPER WARS BS).

the M98B is only effective when you play on the hardcore server. its pretty much a one hit one kill. on normal servers, everyone pretty much has juggernaut and it takes like 3 hits to kill them with the sniper rifle

If you're going to make a comparison of sniper rifles based on fire rate, why bother scoping in? that just adds more human error into the equation, as you are prone to want to aim it before firing when you scope in. Would be a far more accurate test if you just hipfired a magazine

M98B deals 95 damge at close range and 55 at lowest when sniping in long ranges. It has a faster bullet velocity than any other sniper thus giving the bullet less time to rech the target and a decreased bullet drop.

M98B is beast. M40 and Sv98 is basically the same thing. Same damage though the m40 have a slightly higher damage at longer ranges.

Not much comparison can be done really. All the Bolt-Action Rifles will be 2 hits to anywhere on the body except the head for the most part. Occasionally you will 1 hit enemies and more frequently with the M98B, BUT like I said besides those instances Usually you will have to aim for head shots if you want 1 hit kills. Thats why FIRE RATE is important for follow up shots and taking on multiple opponents.

And In those situations I run into a lot of oponents that have 100HP so I rarely ever shoot at the body. The rate of fire is much more usefull in the situations that I like to play. This is in accurate. If you look in the bottom right corner. The SV98 starts with 10 rounds,  The M40A5 starts with 11 rounds, and the M98b starts with 6 rounds. Im not disagreeing that the M98b being faster, im just saying you should start with the same amount of rounds in each gun.

Also what I did later in the video is Average the time it took to go from one shot to the bolt cocking animation back to being able to take a shot again. The time it took to shoot and unload each clip is actually not that important, its just something to look at the important numbers are at 2:24 Those are the average times per shot and bolt cock. Why do you guys care about fire rate? Don't get me wrong, excellent video! But when playing,this isn't what you should look at, you should look at how many bullets you must use, and where to hit to get a kill. The best is of course shooting 1 bullet, and 1 kill. Not like the SV98: Shoot 1 shot, miss the head, enemy goes hiding, no kill. I haven't tried the M40A5/M98B, but I get killed by one shot, so: One shot at the chest, bam, dead.

It's almost impossible to play Sniper in a server with normal settings :

3D-spotting(hi big arrow on your head when you think you're hidden in the bush)

Kill-cam(you spend much time trying to find the perfect spot , you kill someone, he respawns within 5 sec and kills you.lame.)

You're not rewarded for landing a 500m shot in the back of someone and it's almost impossible to land 2 in a row. And of course after 10s he starts getting his health back ?wtf.

if you add the sound+glint..it sucks.

@zzdeuszz Yes I agree that it is challenging playing as a sniper in close situations because assault rifles and other classes are pretty solid at that range. But once you get to medium and longer ranges you actually have the advantage. Just aim fast & get your shot of quick, keep practicing. I love the snipers they are probably my favorite class to use, i have everything unlocked in the Recon class. Remember to almost ALWAYS aim for the head.

@zzdeuszz It is almost never beneficial to camp in Battlefield 3 (unless you're playing defence on rush or TDM), remember, you're not playing sniper you're playing recon. Headshots take practice but are so much more rewarding than bodyshots.

You're rewarded by 500m kills by the marksman bonus. Keep practicing your aim and target aquisition and the scope glint won't be a problem.
