The CAW should have taken the CAT offer and saved the jobs. There is deflation in manufacturing salaries worldwide and the CAW nor the Canadian government can not stop that trend. Catapillar is an organization or like an organism for say. Organisms in nature flow to spaces of less resistance. So that is exactly what is happening globally. You must compete for work as an individual just like a company competes for customers. Caterpillar does not owe you a job. They made an offer and you refused.
Take him up on his offer to present the petition in the house! Unless you have an MP to present it in the House a petition is worthless. I'm not defending him but his offer to present your petition is worth way more then 1 signature on the petition.
Great Job Journalists! How the hell did this guy turn this video into a photo op despite everything...I think the nature of politics is to only care about money but when speaking about it they replace the word money with "the people" or "constituents"...classic Houdini...Who isn't a supporter of jobs?!? Who has an agenda?
(part2) That said, your pensions are your property. If govt or companies have raided your pensions then that is theft, and all involved should be held accountable.
You shouldn't be relying on the govt to solve all of the problems, because they never get it right, and it only allows freeloader bureaucrats to mooch off people who work.
Personally, I think govt funded healthcare, utilities, etc, are bad for the economy, and for liberty. It eliminates competition and makes industry inefficient.
The problem (the big elephant in the room) is when taxes are used and legislation passed to support certain privilaged businesses. This is fascism.
Sorry you lost your jobs, but that is not the root of the issue.
If a company cuts jobs to make profit, that is a good thing. The only way a free market can work is if everybody is trying to be as efficient as possible. Workers have a right to unionize to represent their interests, and they should have the right to not be a part of a union.
