  • Yes, they are biased liberal nuts, but they are talented and for the most part not mean-spirited

  • OH JOANIE, OH TOMMY, OH DICKIE, HOW MUCH JOY HAVE YOU GIVEN ME THROUGH THE YEARS.

  • Pretty special moment for the 3 of them, that's for sure...

  • This is a classic, nice post. I was a Firemen in the town she lived in. NICE lady...

  • God, this touches your soul and brings tears to your heart. Beautiful.

  • Looks like the third and last seasion of The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour

  • A very special and wonderful collaboration.

  • I just kinda stumbled upon this video and have absolutely fallen in love with this song and Joan. Her voice is so pure and comforting.

The video is funny too. It seems like she can't look at Tommy or she'll start giggling. And as somebody previously mentioned, he does look positively smitten.

  • She kinda looks like Ellen Degeneres

  • @benjaminbd1109 , yes she does in the face. A brunette version. I'm sure Ms. Degeneres would be honored to hear that.

  • @benjaminbd1109 Yeah, kind of like men with short hair.

  • 若いバエズ!素敵です。笑顔がかわいい。

  • To the people below: the reason is the poor recording quality that was used in the old days. If you have ever heard her live or even listened to her new album, you would be able to see how much recording quality has to do with the "whining".

  • aint never to old to rock

  • thanks so much for posting this. precious. - joan baez never fails to inspire me. a real woman. a real human. and she is adoreable here.

  • Tommy looks positively smitten. :)

  • He probably was: couldn't make fun of this act. She is cute here.

  • she was and still is a goddess.

  • This is enchanting! Lovely to see Joan, Tom and Dick perform together. The Smothers Brothers were such a great comic team, it's easy to forget they were also musicians. Nice to hear them all together. Thanks for posting!

  • I want that Martin she's been playing for about 40 years and I want one now!

  • Great video. From the hundreds of versions, who do you think does the best version of 'I Shall Be Released'? I vote for the version by 'Chrissie Hynde' on the Bob Dylan's 30th Anniversary Concert.

  • I vote for Bob's version on the Martin Luther King memorial concert, 1985. I like the alternate set of lyrics he came up with for the occasion.

  • Baez is the most heartfelt and least pretentious, but Nina Simone probably owns it.

  • also PP&M , of all people, probably out rock all of the "rock" groups on their version from "Late Again".

  • There's a very good version of the song on the first Jerry Garcia Band album.

This Joan Baez/Smothers Brothers version is the best version of the song I've found on YouTube

  • @oldcodyjunior

Gospel Legend Marion Williams on Atlantic with Cissy Houston on back-up vocals.

  • Very, very nice!

Maybe they should have been a trio!

Classic Joan Baez, too, the way she turns around in the mddle so everyone can see her. Always with class!

  • she looks better with short hair. adorable.

  • Joan Baez. One of the great voices of all time. What a great musical era that was. I wish I would have appreciated it more at the time.

  • Me too.

  • She had a great voice, and her interpretations of several songs, such as this one, are or should be classics.

  • I am so mad that she did not record 5 albums a year then when she had the best voice in the world!

  • She is much less "girl next door" on Rolling thunder with Dylan and the boys

  • What a gift. Thank you very much for this posting.

  • What a great piece of vintage footage. Seems like another age or era. Very nice to watch aftewr all these years.

  • I want to cry evertime I hear Baez.

  • The Smothers brothers do a very nice back up. I didn't expect that.

  • Really lovely. Oh...what a time.

  • Outstanding!

  • Great blast from the past. Nice harmonies with the SBs.
