Plato may of heard about Atlantis in his time and when this lost world was found by people of his time, he believed that it was Atlantis. But it isn't really Atlantis possibly? An imaginative radical theory: This lost world of santoini and crete could possibly be the remanence of what is described in the bible as sodom and gomorrah? Atlantis may of existed well before the time of crete and santoini and due to reasons it has not yet been found. Atlantis was sunk during the era of Noahs Ark? :)

I think Atlantis sounds like Atlantic, so it seems more believable it was located somewhere in the Atlantic, near the Iberian coastline, rather than being situated near Greece.

The Minoan theory ignores the fact that Plato said that Atlantis was OUTSIDE the pillars of Hercules,(Straits of Gibralter) not IN the Mediterranean! And Thera,(Santorini) and Crete did not sink beneath the waves. The Minoans were not completely wiped out by the volcano and tsunamis, they carried on until they were eventually conquered by neighboring peoples. I believe "Atlanits" was a series of islands (now submerged) which also included the Iberian,(Spain) coastline,(the Biblical "Tarshish" )

I know Atlantis was nothing but a metaphor about the world according to plate but DAMN! Atlantis would've been an epic place to visit if it were real and survived up until this day. The circular layout of the place is just stunning.

goshlike76 thats pretty blievable ive read a pretty good bit of greek mytholgy and the story of the agronauts with hercales and other heroes and herales says that he had placed coulums at the entrance to the medateranian it mentions west of eroupe and below the ultimate isles or great britian that the great place known as atlantis was engoulfed by the sea maybe its over there somewhere seems like our storiws seem to point somewhere over there

@jboyle19993 have you watched the video that says atlantis is in spain?? uhm this palace was mentioned there, theyre trying to compare probabilities to which one could be atlantis.. lots of explanations and clues was given that leads to spain being the true location of atlantis... look up for atlantis in spain or something like that..

@supladah22 I know that video, they don't refer simply to Spain they said that their empire was extended to cornwall! I don't think that this statement is true. According to Plato it was an island. Who knows? Maybe Spain was full of Atlantean colonies!

Before civilization, humans lived the simple lives of hunters and gatherers. As we developed into societies, populations grew and resources became scarcer, causing more and more stress. Many cultures have legends of a past time when live was simpler and prosperous that was lost with knowledge, like the Garden of Eden. Maybe Atlantis is another one of those legends.

cont'd...It just doesn't make any sense to me that one area of the world - that was undoubtedly doing extensive trade with the rest of the world - would have been so much more advanced than other parts of the world. Atlantis is probably just a metaphor for world civilization at a particular time in human history, a time that came to an abrupt end due to natural disaster, like a pole shift.

the civilization that was later called atlantis is thought to have been many smaller civilizations that worked together around the same time as each other. this civilization may have been around during the fall of the last ice age on coastal waters that were quickly engulfed as the pole melted. the only reason we think of atlantis as advanced is because back in that era they were more advanced than the neighboring cites.

I'm starting to believe that Atlantis is just a name given to the entire world at one time in history when we had amazing knowledge everywhere, until it was almost completely wiped out by a pole shift, or something. I think this explains the Bible's flood story AND the Atlantis story at the same time. Because so few survived there was nobody that could restore everything to the way it was, it took all these years just to get back to the level we're at now.
