It's JUPITER! Venus is the one closest to the moon if u know your Astronomy. Jupiter was closest to Earth around this time for the last 4 yrs. It was amazing can be seen better in the early mornings. It looked like a flashlight here because of the camera being unstable. The music is annoying and too redneck for me.....Just saying...

Well i'm not an astronomer, i'm not even have an telescope, im from DR and moved to Chicago on november 2008, i'm methaphisician and universe lover, last year 2009 specially at summer clear night that bright star it was there. my balcony face west and i always sit to watch the sky, this year since spring i been noticing that new star gets bigger than any others. i belive the we don't know the truth about it do good, live in peace with every living form, and get ready. next year will be visible

I don't see it after the sun goes down, all the way up past the midnight. and at 02:00 this thing, is the highest in the sky. Looking at the stars since i was kid, i've never seen anything this bright before. And it's getting brighter.

Just take a program like Starry night, put in your location, put in the date and time and compare this with your sky. It is a no brainer. If there is something else out there and you should see the object AND any other planets that are visible out there that that moment.
If you want to check it is not Jupiter then just take a telescope even cheap one that has a x50 magnification and see for yourself. You will notice the 4 moons and belts on Jupiter if it is Jupiter.Again a no brainer
Assuming you are in Denmark, that is my time zone right now then you are seeing Jupiter. It is not it brightest but it indeed gets a bit brighter. It will reduce brightness from 28 September I see.
I can add more, I think around 03h00 it is south, and the angle above the horizon is about 30-35 degrees. If you have powerful binoculars and can keep them still you might see 3 moons right now.
I saw this x2 in weeks...and it did appear to move...told my brother who wasnt obviously interested....It was at a weird angle to the moon ! first time to the left,2nd time to the right of it! thursday just gone the 15th I saw it...?
@bionicssnuclear Because the moon moves eastward each day..so on one night it'll be to the left of the moon, by the following night the moon will have overtaken it and it;ll appear to the right of the moon... It's not rocket science...

By March 3th 2009 you saw from your location in Arkansas at 6pm a very bright star, not too high in the sky. This was Venus.
No worries - no end of the world :-) The distance from Earth was only 0.36AU, which is around 50Mio km - quite close!
The Venus was only visible for a few hours at this time.
Now (24.Nov.2010) we have a similar planet constellation, but in the morning!
When Venus is far away (around 250Mio km), its barely visible. This will be e.g. in August 2011, try to find it then)

Venus at magnitude -4.58 which means very bright. Other clue Western sky just after the Sun went down.

Two questions, where are you seeing it? What country are you seeing it and what is the nearest big city.
Second what date are you seeing it?
You can check it easily with Starry Night and you also have a free version called Stellarium to check what is out there.
You can get a rough idea what it is even though I do not know where you are seeing it. I am checking it assuming you mean today 02:00 am.
