  • someone should make a whole drumset out of just medieval drums.

  • Do you know of any music I can play medieval drum beats ? I need it for a Musicology project,.

  • Very helpful Nicholas. Thanks. This is about the only video available on the subject. Can you tell us anything about how to wear a long tabor please? I have just bought a 14" x 14", and there seems no obvious way of attaching it to a drum sling. Actually, a follow up video for enthusiasts, showing how to tension the drum, what kind of sticks and rhythms to use, etc would be brill.

  • can u make a video where you play the banjo pls

  • hi

do you sell any of these drums or make to order? please let me know if you do! thanks :)

  • Thanks for sharing. You have a great dynamic style of playing.

  • yeh totally amazing video thanks for posting!

  • Hi. What is the music playing at the beginning?

  • Well, hell, you're just a regular Musicologist or something, huh????

  • did you say hemp cord??????

    hemp?????

  • Comment removed

  • @ydrjtt hemp is another word for cannabis, since hemp comes from male cannabis plants..

    you must be fucking 12

  • Nice Video. Thanx for the knowledge.

  • Very intresting I liked this :)

  • This is so incredibly helpful! I'm a music teacher currently working on a Medieval unit. This will help me immensely :D

  • Goodness, I love percussion and I love all things Medieval. It's a perfect match!

It's just too bad it's so expensive - otherwise I'd be playing Medieval drums all day!

  • You're a good player. Hehe

  • interesting video. Traditionally the difference between a tabor and a drum is that a tabor is beaten with one hand only - which is why you get the pipe and tabor and the players of this combination are called taborers.

  • @mayhillgurdy The word for drum in spanish is tambor. Probably related.

  • I am a fan of the big frame with bells round the edge... where did you find it?

  • And I won't sleep til I get the sounds of a long drum!

  • Nicholas, Im truly thankful that you posted a video of this. Been looking for the long drum sounds for weeks! I just need a few drum sound file (like that long drum sound) so that I could edit and create medieval music I've been working on. Can you send me single beats from the long drum? (light beat, hard beat etc.) If not, may I know exactly what is the alternate name of the long drum? I'll need the name to start google-ing until I get the sounds I want. Thanks so much again!

  • I found this really helpful as I'm studying the Snare Drum for a BTEC in Music.

I'm in a marching band and I play the lead Snare, so it's good to know how my instrument came about. Thanks.

  • Thanks for posting this interesting video. You have a really nice collection of drums.

  • Apparently all frame drums originate from a square version.

    Great collection by the way.

  • A nice selection of drums you have there. Can one ask where you acquired the large frame drum with the jingles?

  • Hi

glad you like them. I adapted the big frame drum from an irish bodhran I took the wooden bars out of.. and screwed in bells around the side. it is based on one a drum teacher had (Jim Denly from the medieval group Sinfonye). The two medieval long drums (there is one in the background too) i made my self .. and the square pandiero. I make drums. The others i bought.

  • That drum - I made it - well converted it - from an Irish bodhran. I took the wooden struts out from the the inside and fixed bells around it - not rocket science :)
