i think it makes it better that there is walmarts and mcdonalds were so many americans killed each other in such high numbers and you think life goes on it sad but funny this modern world that we live in

Back in PA, we have the same problem with one of my fav spots, Brandywine Battlefield from the Revolutionary war.
I was there in '09 and the people who work there told me that researchers are looking into the spot where Lafayette was shot/wounded, but they have to look in the middle of a housing development, becuase the spot's been built over.
Next to Franklin, TN Stones River has to be the greatest failure on the part of preservation groups to save one of the most significant battlefields of the Civil War. I was fortunate to have toured the battlefield years ago using a copy of Blue and Gray magazine as my guide. At that time the land was still predominately rural so you could get a good feel for the ebb and flow of battle. The last time I was there, about 10 years ago, most of the battlefield was paved over.
From haynes 1776: I travel through Muffresboro,Tn all the time and its tragic to see only 15% of the battlefield is preserved. My solution is to donate money towards buiding monuments where the fighting took place. its the only way for people to tour the battlefield. More of the reason why its important to make efforts to donate money to protect these sites from development.
At least 15% of Stones River core battlefield is preserved. Look at Seven Pines (Fair Oaks) battlefield near Richmond. Nothing left today but a small National Cemetery at a very busy crossroads. Nothing remains of the battlefields of Atlanta or Nashville. My only complaint about the National Park is that the interpretive signage is limited and ancient. Small park, small budget.

Look the area up on google earth. I live there. The battle of Stones River took place close to down town Murfreesboro, which is in the fastest growing county in TN. Sure it's nice to preserve History when possible, but after the battle was over, It is just land. Look how Washington DC has grown despite being one of the revolutionary war battlefields. It's sad, but the battle took place over hundreds of acres of prime land near a booming town.
