Da Vinci, Newton and Darwin did not have anything against the church. They just wanted to promote science in a new way. Da Vinci was a humanist. And most humanist did not have anything against the church (Erasmus being an exception), and as far as I am concerned nothing against the religion. Darwin was himself very faithful at a young age and that faith became less and less but it never disappeared.
Newton and Einstein are the greatest scientists ever I don't think Darwin is even close to that.
