I am not saying which is better because you cannot simply say a V8 is better than a V6 or vise versa, it depends on the technology deployed

First, The Grill is a dead give away, clear difference between the 00-01 and 02-03s. Second is the headlights, they had different styles. Considering that the Maxima ran high 14's stock, no way are you shaving over 2 full seconds with just bolt ons; good driver or not.
You need to do some more research then, you dont understand the potential of the vq35 motor. Bone stock 02-03 are low 14 sec cars. Search on youtube and you can find a 3.0L 4th Gen thats bolted/tuned and runs mid 12s. A 5.5 Gen will run 13s with an intake and catback easy. Full exhaust, NWP spacers, intake, and mild tune on a 5.5 will break 12s in a heartbeat. Good day sir.

Regarding your comments about bolt-ons. YouTube is full of people that stretch the truth. Bolt ons and a tune will never shave 2 seconds off of your et, never. Even a blower or a turbo won't do that. I've seen many try for a full second and that's hard enough. Bolt ons like exhaust, headers, and a CAI aren't even close.

I shit on BMW 3 and 5 series all fucking day, completely stock. They are heavier curb weight and put out way less hp and torque. Since you have the 540i, I am guessing that's a v8 cause my buddy has a higher 5 series and its an 8 cylinder. In that case you SHOULD be beating him at only like 500 pounds more and like 80 more torque and 50HP

But to say it's a shitbox is absurd considering it's by far one of the better cars in its class, and has been since its inception in the 80s. And since when is a V6 grocery-getter that achieves 0-60 in 6 seconds a cow? Not to mention the latest gen has been praised by critics for it's styling
The rear 3/4 view of the 7th gen Max is hideous, to say the least. The rear end is sloppy looking, and the cheap "insert here" spoiler finishes it off. I would even say the exhaust tips look like an afterthought. The Max does not even compare to the timeless styling and handsome profile of the 300, nor does it hold a candle to the design of the CTS.
0-60 in 6 seconds is great....but when I say cow I'm talking about steering feel, handling, body control....etc.
With the Maxima, you've got a pseudo luxury/sport sedan if you can look past the bulbous styling, FWD, and CVT transmission. Interior is nothing special either.

And YES the Altima sounded stressed, all 4 cyl engines sound stressed on acceleration.

I would disagree with you on everything, my uncles Highlander v6 2002 has a cheap plastic interior, but they do a good job of trying to hide it, with a fake grain. All hard hollow plastic. Take a look at Chrysler's new portfolio...Toyota will be shitting their pants. As for the Genesis and Equus, they may do well in value and features for the $, but in terms of design they are way behind. They already look like cars that have been on the road for 10 years.

My point was that people are calling these VQ35 powered cars "family cars" when in fact they are most certainly not because all-out "family cars" do not have high-performance engines. If a manufacturer wants to make a car that is strictly for grocery getting and picking up kids, they certainly don't give it 280 hp. The VQ35 engine is a sports engine and whatever car it is put into is designed for performance.

American car manufacturers tend to underpower their V8 engines. However, those V8 engines respond to mods very well and have tons of room to grow.

I beat my friend's '05 Altima SE 3.5 with ease in my '82 Mustang. It's an OK car, I definitely would NEVER call it "fast". If you think a VQ35 Maxima is fast, you've never been in a fast car. My Mustang will cut 13.80s with tire and it's a turd for sure. Once I get the 100 shot on it'll be ok, still not fast.

HEY Lemme Tell you Something. Your Title is a LIE. This is a 3.0 MAXIMA with only 222HP and its an automatic. How can I tell? First, The Grill is a dead give away, clear difference between the 00-01 and 02-03s. Second is the headlights, they had different styles. You would never ever take a maxima 3.5L, no matter how deceptive your title is!

@clarda1 Sorry, that's 5.5 gen Maxima. I owned one and you can tell by the separate low and high beams in the headlights, exposed lugs in the 6 spoke wheels, and the 2 opening lower grille.

@jbrooks870 I had an Injen CAI and a Stillen FSTB. The car was fast, but if you mod a Maxima and do the same mods to a Mustang GT, the Mustang will win all day long. Mid 12's with bolt ons? Considering that the Maxima ran high 14's stock, no way are you shaving over 2 full seconds with just bolt ons; good driver or not.

You need to do some more research then, you dont understand the potential of the vq35 motor. Bone stock 02-03 are low 14 sec cars. Search on youtube and you can find a 3.0L 4th Gen thats bolted/tuned and runs mid 12s. A 5.5 Gen will run 13s with an intake and catback easy. Full exhaust, NWP spacers, intake, and mild tune on a 5.5 will break 12s in a heartbeat. Good day sir.

@jbrooks870 Bone stock 3.5's ran 14.7- 14.8 ets from both Car and Driver and Motor Trend test drivers. Whoever claims they run a low 14 second et stock is full of it. Regarding your comments about bolt-ons. YouTube is full of people that stretch the truth. Bolt ons and a tune will never shave 2 seconds off of your et, never. Even a blower or a turbo won't do that. I've seen many try for a full second and that's hard enough. Bolt ons like exhaust, headers, and a CAI aren't even close.

(and no bullshit i spin tires at 30-40mph to top end. while im cruzing 5th gear in the rain lol) sounds hard to believe i know but this road is slippery as shit

@p8ntballer55 What's the specs on your buddies 2002? I have a 2002 Nissan Maxima SE 6-spd. 3.5 Liter v6 255 HP @ 5800 RPM and 245 ft-lbs. of torque @ 4400 RPM. I shit on BMW 3 and 5 series all fucking day, completely stock. They are heavier curb weight and put out way less hp and torque. Since you have the 540i, I am guessing that's a v8 cause my buddy has a higher 5 series and its an 8 cylinder. In that case you SHOULD be beating him at only like 500 pounds more and like 80 more torque and 50HP

But to say it's a shitbox is absurd considering it's by far one of the better cars in its class, and has been since its inception in the 80s. And since when is a V6 grocery-getter that achieves 0-60 in 6 seconds a cow? Not to mention the latest gen has been praised by critics for it's styling

My feeling is this:
The rear 3/4 view of the 7th gen Max is hideous, to say the least. The rear end is sloppy looking, and the cheap "insert here" spoiler finishes it off. I would even say the exhaust tips look like an afterthought. The Max does not even compare to the timeless styling and handsome profile of the 300, nor does it hold a candle to the design of the CTS.

With the Maxima, you've got a pseudo luxury/sport sedan if you can look past the bulbous styling, FWD, and CVT transmission. Interior is nothing special either.

@th3ha1og0d Ok this one now. A shitty 2.7 only has 178HP, and an ancient 4 speed auto with LOOONNGGGG gears for no acceleration, the 3.5V6 only has 250HP and once again a shitty 4 speed. So if you think about it my 180HP 4 banger that weights less and a better tranny WILL outrun a 2.7, and i was neck and neck with a 3.5 and pulled him a fender at 100. I raced a 300 in my HHR and BARELY lost, mabey half a car legenth, and that thing is slower than christmas

He tried to cut me off to hop on the on ramp, and was on my rear quarter panel the whole time, but he never got ahead. It was quite pathetic actually. lol obviously the CVT is gonna be smooth it doesn't have any real shifts to make...as for the Maxima....we both know the Max is a good 600 lb lighter than the Charger....And the engine in the Charger debuted in 98 so yes it is more powerful, but it's a hell of a lot heaver. And YES the Altima sounded stressed, all 4 cyl engines sound stressed on acceleration.

You know i think its kinda sad how far behind us Americans are in cars, we can excell in everything else but cant put a quality, fast, reliability all in one package. I would disagree with you on everything, my uncles Highlander v6 2002 has a cheap plastic interior, but they do a good job of trying to hide it, with a fake grain. All hard hollow plastic. Take a look at Chrysler's new portfolio...Toyota will be shitting their pants. As for the Genesis and Equus, they may do well in value and features for the $, but in terms of design they are way behind. They already look like cars that have been on the road for 10 years.

@1SirCarlton my friends civic was all motor when he beat that 5.0 fox body. It was a 1.6L with open intake and exhaust. The only mods that I know he had was a chipped computer.... : )

@mlpdade so you didnt know that but this you know okay. umm wel soory to tell you but your wrong hahah keep trying buddy cus the 350z is faster than the maxima by about 3 cars 4 cars to 120 and then from there on the 350 keeps pulling alot harder to 150. and the mustang is still faster.

@901NewEra Family cars do not have VQ35 engines lol. That's a sports car engine. If you think any 4 door car is a family car then let's pair a 300 SRT8 against the Maxima. It has 4 doors so it's a family car too right?

My point was that people are calling these VQ35 powered cars "family cars" when in fact they are most certainly not because all-out "family cars" do not have high-performance engines. If a manufacturer wants to make a car that is strictly for grocery getting and picking up kids, they certainly don't give it 280 hp. The VQ35 engine is a sports engine and whatever car it is put into is designed for performance.

@H1mynameisLarry Eh I wouldn't say that, that's just what ppl on youtube make it seem like. The VQ35 is a very good engine and the Altimas and Maximas aren't very heavy. American car manufacturers tend to underpower their V8 engines. However, those V8 engines respond to mods very well and have tons of room to grow.

@gtdrummerdude Learn your shit, my 03 Maxima has the VQ35, so does the 02 Maxima. O yea they also have 6 speed manuals and limited slip, Hmm i don't see why not against a 300 SRT8. Do your research before say crap it just make you look dumb.

@Silen7Voice Yea you can race any car against any other car, there's no reason you couldn't pair a Maxima against an SRT8. The Maxima will lose horribly, but you could still race them. I beat my friend's '05 Altima SE 3.5 with ease in my '82 Mustang. It's an OK car, I definitely would NEVER call it "fast". If you think a VQ35 Maxima is fast, you've never been in a fast car. My Mustang will cut 13.80s with tire and it's a turd for sure. Once I get the 100 shot on it'll be ok, still not fast.

A car in its class that can hit 14s and high 13s is considered very fast... "for it's class."
There's no sense comparing that to a 10 or 11 second car. They are clearly not in the same category.
The VQ35 is a great and strong engine, again, considering what it is... A N/A 3.5L V6
