Lookin At Lucky didn't even outkick Setsuko when he qas already ahead of him at the top of the stretch, how is he going to catch Sidney's Candy and Eskendereya? Notice Lucky was already losing ground late in the race. Caracortado could have caught him for 3rd if he wasn't stuck on that rail.
@sweetepnoy Gomez didn't persevere with Lucky when it was clear that Sidney's Candy had the race won. The rider was smart enough to know that Lucky was already in the Kentucky Derby field, whether they got first in the Santa Anita Derby, or last. "There was no need for me to start banging on him to try and run second or third when I know we've got another race ahead," Gomez said post-race. ... Caracortado wasn't catching a *hand-ridden* Lucky, but even if he did, Gomez knew it didn't matter.
Lucky is still going to win the Kentucky Derby. He's going to catch either Eskendereya or Sidney's Candy down the stretch. At least Gomez now knows how to ride him. I wish Gomez would have bloodied Espinoza. These are million dollar horses. You don't run them like that. Baffert's wife should have hit Espinoza in the head with her purse.
Serves ,Who's up, jockey right to be suspended for three days! I can't belive that happened, what a shame. But i still love Lucky, i wish he ran his race so i could compare to Eskendereya's Wood.
@Sami13p I think everyone is going a little bit crazy over Eskendereya's Wood, the Derby you need everything to go right, and that is some times impossible, also Lookin At Lucky, in my honest opinion he's better on dirt, he some how reminds me of Real Quite, I just hope to see 'Lucky up there in the finish.
LOL, if you think you've never seen a horse have such bad luck from race to race to race - go look up Dollar Bill, spring of 2001. AWFUL trips in the Louisiana Derby, Blue Grass, Kentucky Derby, and Preakness. Horse could not catch a break.
Lucky is pure class for finishing the way he did - have even more respect for him after this. Not to knock the winner in any way.
Lookin at Lucky is pure class. He was undoubtedly the best horse in the race to even finish. Sidney's Candy was impressive, but got away with really easy fractions.
@henrigruffydd And I also agree with you. Lookin At Lucky is still my Derby horse, atleast we know he handles dirt, and look how hard he tried to get back in the race this day, that's what you need in a racehorse for The Derby.
@ZenyattaLuver Absolutely...after this, the Rebel, and the BC Juvenile, Lucky should be able to handle the stress of Derby traffic just fine. Lookin at Lucky has the most ironic name in horse racing...I've never seen such consistently bad luck.
IMO, Garrett Gomez did the same thing today with LAL that Johnny Murtagh did with Mastercraftsman in the 09 B.C. Dirt Mile. He tried to run LAL up through a slot on the rail that was so tight, it made the horse claustrophobic. Mastercraftsman hesitated the exact same way in the B.C. Dirt Mile. He wouldn't go up through such a tight slot, and it ended up costing him and Murtagh, potentially the race. Garrett Gomez did the exact same thing today with LAL. Terrible trip throughout the race. TJMO.
@GBeret83 take G off of lucky.twice now bad rides.even lucky can't overcome such a terrible trip! kudos to sidney's candy but i don't think it would have been such an easy win if lucky had a better ride .what was he thinking?i could see that hole closing..does G think that it's like the red sea?riders should just get out of his way? i am still mad at how he manhandled Hard spun..never gave him a chance in the belmont.

Very likely, IMO, Sidney's Candy will be the horse, along with Rule, that will be pressing Eskendereya on the front end at Churchill Downs on May 1st. Eskendereya was extremely impressive in winning the Wood Memorial today. I don't think he took a hard breath in the race. Great run here as well by Sidney's Candy. My question on him, what about the dirt? If Eskendereya and Sidney's Candy go at it up front, with an extra 1/8th mile, it could leave both vulnerable to a stalker or deep closer. IMO.
Sweetepnoy enjoyed the Preakness. LOOKIN AT LUCKY THE CHAMP!

@GBeret83 : I hear ya. Eskendereya looked push button today though. WOW. If he runs back, he'll be tough.
