you should never put your xbox on your tv because all the heat of your tv goes directly to your xbox just a friendly tip :-)

@Jasonfields52 Did it not work at all? Even for a short time? It might be something else wrong with your machine if that's the case. But even if it does work, it doesn't last that long and the more you use your Xbox the quicker it'll crap out again!

The towel trick is a popular home method. It does wor but the paperclip method might be a little less hazardous. Place them in the back, preventing the fans for rotatting for about the same time or less and the lights will change to 2 lights. Then repower your console a couple times til it works. But great video. Glad you got it working. (Thumbs Up)

@BLACKOPSPROTWIN I would love to help you out but I'm not sure I completely understand the question.. First you say you have a capacity of 13.9GB then you ask why you have 13.9GB used space?? I know I skipped the middle parts of 5.8GB free space and a 6GB game downloaded but not entirely sure how your question is supposed to read.

What happens to cause rrod is the glue holding one of the proccessing units expands due to overheating....it cools in a disconnected state. This is essentially purposefully expanding the glue (by overheating) and hoping it will land in the right spot...good luck people...im about to buy a new xbox so im doing this for kicks hah

epic win i just turned my xbox off with the surge protecter and background downloads was on and before my xbox quit checking for downloads i shutoff the surge proteter and it show 3 red ring really quick and shut off i turned it back on and it still works so far

It's been over a year now since I made this vid. My replacement Xbox is still working great (drooling over the new model though)! If you would like to try this, go for it. However you still might be eligible for a free replacement. Go the the Microsoft/Xbox website. It's really simple, type your serial number in and what code your Xbox is displaying (3 red flashing lights [RRoD])

@XXKg11XX It doesn't sound normal and the towel trick is ONLY for the RRoD (three flashing red rings) If you do have the RRoD wrap up the Xbox but NOT the power adapter!

if you have 3 lights then theres no point in performing this ineffective and very temporary fix. just send it in to microsoft cause they fix 3 red lights and E74 error for free. Im sure most people could go 2-3 weeks without xbox.

I did the towel trick but forgot to remove the HDD, I realized it when you were plugging in your HDD. :(

I hope it doesn't damage the data.

Anyway I had it on wrapped in plastic for about 40 minutes before it started flashing 2 red lights so I turned it off. If this doesnt work I'll start saving for a PS3 Slim.

Sorry, I normally respond quicker.. how'd it go? Make sure to go to the Xbox repair website to see if you can get it fixed under the warranty they have specifically for the 3 red rings!

Do not try the towel trick! I've tried this and learned the hard way. I had the 3 red rings of death for my 360 Elite and I wanted to play so i followed the "towel trick." All this does is just cause more damage for your console. The fact remains that you can send it in to Microsoft for FREE(my warantee was expired) and they will fix it in 2-3 weeks. They did not send me a new Xbox Elite but they did fix the problem. It only costed me 8 dollars for shipping.

They do still fix consoles even after the warranty, I never heard of them doing it for free before unless you were covered under the extended warranty that they did for the RRoD or maybe you just got lucky.. I do recommend people send it in over doing this, however if they don't have the $ to get it fixed this is a fun little temp fix. Doesn't last long though..

google xbox repair, go to their website, enter all the info and see if you can get it done for free.. if not it looks like they charge $100 for other types of fixes.. not sure but it looks like the might be still fixing the RRoD for free

Make sure to read all the annotations. This only lasted for about a week for me! The return process is REALLY easy and all you have to do to see if you are covered under the warranty is go to the website and type your 360's serial number in. You don't send anything with your 360 so your HDD and saves will be fine! I wouldn't recommend this if you can get it fixed for free, but if not then why not ;P

no you don't have to send in your hard drive. I just got my first red rings today and the support guy from microsoft told me to disconnect and just send the xbox

no they force you not to send your hardrive. they dont "fix" your xbox. they send you a brand new one thats garunteed not to get the red light..... oh and they send you the type of xbox you had before. so if you have elite, they send you a new elite..
