Yup, kekomi is a thrust and keage is a snap otherwise its the same kick then there is target position...chudan and jodan. You could think of keage as like a jab and Kekomi as like a straight cross. using boxing terminalogy The Sensei has nice kicks and flexability. Watching him makes me sigh in dispair at my own kicks..."sigh" The idea thoguh of either kekomi or keage is speed and smoothness in and out of the chamber because you dont want to be there too long against Muay Thai style kickers.

so awesome . i have to train my left leg for yoko geri , my right one being my basic front kick leg ( mae , yoko , ushiro , you know :D ) my left is my mawashi in the liver ( right side ?!?!)
