I like Manhunter better than Red Dragon. I could actually feel the emotion to the situations by Francis Dolarhyde (Tom Noonan) in Manhunter. I couldn't feel the emotion in Red Dragon. William Petersen wasn't bad either (Will Graham).
Why cannot all of them have brought something different to the character? I think they all did a very good job in the role - and a very DIFFERENT style. Why do we have to choose - I like Vanilla icecream - AND chocolate AND caramel. Funny that!
Both are fine actors but Hopkins and his director had more time to think about the atmosphere they wanted to portray. The psycho in manhunter is better than ralph fiennes who did it very well. More true to the book
SOTL is an awesome film and i think my wife would agree with you, but personally i'd opt for Hannibal as being my favourite........if that's actually possible considering i haven't seen Manhunter or Red Dragon yet (which i know are both the same plot but obviously very different movies - and i'd reckon once seen i'd prefer Red Dragon, Hopkins is a fucking brilliant actor)
Hopkins was Lecter period,if you read the books hopkins whole demenour and gestures how Lecter would move,in this movie at one point I seen Brian Cox scratch his nose and rub his eyes Thomas Harris the writer says you wouldnt even notice Lecter if he was standing beside you unless he wanted you too Cox is too frumpy as Lecter.
