@GabbyLawrence Petroleum is not the right product to use with clay. It will break it down and cause it to be weak after it's cured. You should only use the products that are meant to go with polymer clays.
Thats awesome I work with clay to and I have the hardest time sculpting and know I'm going to buy on of those choppers and clay softer also when she chopped it with the clay I bet it felt like play doh
It's porous and not as hard as rock by any means. There are polymers on the market that will stay rubbery and more flexible. But most are pretty strong and rigid.
Honey YA mentioned what other people will think or say about your methods.
I'm also an artist YA know what? don't you ever fret about what they say .usually them are the folks that don't do a damned thing with their lives. You are doing something , you will be blessed for it ! To hell with what "THEY think or SAY ! You keep going at it Your own way and HAVE so much fun.
Thank you! I just wanted to show how easy it is. I went a full year without a chopper when I started. I had no idea these even existed. And I used Fimo Classic. Not fun! ;)
I like the realness of your video. When I paint or work with clay I do so without perfection. I watched your video without intimidation and with much interest. I like that your equipment has been used before. I like the tad bit of clay in the bowl. It's real and many, many people do it. Thanks for showing it that way.
PS. I got my mixer machine from the second hand store. :-)
You should NOT use baby oil. It is not meant for use with Polymer clay. IT breaks down the clay- it doesn't mix in- and after the clay is baked it will make it very weak and brittle. You need to use products that are designed to use with clay.
Thanks... I had some old hard black Kato clay that I ran over with my car a few times and tried to do all sorts of things., but not a mixer. I think I might just have one of those hiding around here somewhere too.
I just went to Michaels last night to get back into polymer clay (i did a lot of sculpting about 15 years ago) and I was shocked to find that they they have FIMO SOFT!!!!! and something called FIMO effect? I
I bought the classic though, because that was why I loved Fimo so much over sculpey was because it wasn't sooooo soft ../sticky.
What does FIMO effect do?----- They didn't have that when I was doing it >.<
@silverraine12345 It depends what the effect is. It will always state what the effect is on the bottom. For example glow in the dark is one. Another effect is transparancy (after clay is baked it'll basically be transparent).
@silverraine12345 FIMO effect has stuff like glitter in it or it is textured or glow in the dark etc. It is often harder to work with but they have some pretty cool effects you might want to check out :):)
No WAY!!!!! Postal machines are ELECTRIC?!!?!! Not that I'm lazy, lol... I make BIG sculptures out of sculpey products. People don't realize the (work) that goes into the conditioning of these clays... I believe super sculpey firm would give someone arthritis with only a day's use.. lol Thanks for the tips Cindy =D ~~Tom
oh my god we have a same technic and same meat blender!! coincident!! but i used cooking oil to soften the clay only a few drops..i have tons of stock of polymer clay.. if anyone want to buy sent me a msg... thanks..
you just gave me a ton of help and I have been making dolls for a long time thank YOU ... I left my DARLINGS video for you to see if you want ... again thanks
What a nice, concise, handy demonstration! Could this also be used to revive poly that has become dried out? It would save loads of time spent kneading by hand.
She did not mention this because she probably assumed it was obvious, but in case you are new to polymer clay--do NOT just use your kitchen food processor for this job. Any utensils used to work with polymer (sculpey, fimo, etc.) should NOT be used for food, EVER. It's just not safe.
Right, and hopefully newbies (like me) working with this medium will read the directions very carefully. The added utensils and appliances are well worth the extra investment. Thanks for the reminder.
just take a little bit of vaseline and condition it! it works better than the clay softner
