@monksters1 I think if you think about it he could get his power earlier it is not really a training you see he is using his devil fruit power better than before. As an example check gear 2nd. For and other example if you read the manga you can see that he happens for brook in the fish men arc he is using his devil fruit power better, same for Robin.

@monksters1 Luffy's basically using his imagination now. The rest of the crew were caught off-guard and didn't know what they were up against. When you know how difficult a task is, you have a better chance to succeed than if you go in blind. Plus, they were motivated by wanting to save Robin

Gear 3rd: He already had Gomu Gomu No Balloon. So he might have applied the logic: if my fist is bigger, I can break more shit. He experimented and was proven right.

It's not hard to figure out how he created the Gears. It's not like super saiyan that takes ages to do.
