Adding to confusion about the name... the French refer to the country as "Guyane". But, indeed, it is entirely separate from independent and english-speaking Guyana to the west. Very well done but I can't get worked up too much over that little mudhole of a mine considering how many acres there in the forest.  It is ugly but what about when they dig a basement for a small office building about that size? Where are the extreme enviromentalists then? I don't understand the French. They're not doing enough to protect their borders in la Guyane. They have the means and the resources. They're not doing much about the influx of people in St.Laurent too. Many lazy illegal aliens come to la Guyane for benifits and child support. In Mana, for example, you see people drinking beer and loitering all day in front of shops. This is a huge burden for the French tax-payers. And the gendarmes too adapted to the laid-back mentality of the local people.

You gotta provide an alternative for the people, this will only get worse! Check out the recycling that the 1st World Countries talk about. Eg. Electronics are shipped to poorer countries to do the dirty work - fill their waterways and air with mercury and other toxic stuff - while the 1st World Countries boast of recycling. Sometimes these documentaries are so blown out of proportion. They create bad news, because it sells. You need a hell of a lot more proof to convince me.
