Adding to confusion about the name... the French refer to the country as "Guyane". But, indeed, it is entirely separate from independent and english-speaking Guyana to the west. Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana all suffer from these problems of illegal mining and forestry. Sadly, most of it is financed by Brazilian interests.
all this destruction so that pretentious westerners can have they're jewelery... if supply of this gold stopped they would be enraged, but then they would be just as angry if this damage happened in they're own countries...
Sometimes I think the world is in a deadly spiral... there are too many problems, and each of them amplifies the others. Perhaps we will only stop when the natural heritage of our planet has been wiped out and we are brought to the brink of extinction. The sad part is that it's not that they want to destroy the jungle, it's that it's out of necessity that they do. However, if we give up, then we forfeit our future. We must keep believing in a brighter future, no matter how it is now.
what in the hell is the French doing having jurisdiction in Guyana?THEY NEED A HUGO CHAVEZ AND NATIONALIZE THEIR RESOURCES AND PUT THE TROGLODYTES OUT OF THEIR COUNTRY
why is it alwyas white people reporting countries like Guyana and the rest of South America? Can't it be someone from our country reporting it? So we won't look less frightening. I'm just saying?
Very well done but I can't get worked up too much over that little mudhole of a mine considering how many acres there in the forest. It is ugly but what about when they dig a basement for a small office building about that size? Where are the extreme enviromentalists then? Or the next storm will displace many more tons of soil that this.
i was born in guyana,i am looking for my father his name is ronny sancho my name is alicia sancho.i need help i now he is in the bush mining.i dont no if he is here help me.(mrsstopit407@yahoo.com)
Not far from me in the southern Sierra , Mother Nature has been unloading her treasures as usual. Mercury deposits , (cinnabar) , and other heavy elements , are just running down a mountainside. She didn't didn't bother getting a permit either , and she never listens to Sierra Club members when she decides to mow down a few million trees , or spread uranium all over tarnation. EARTH FIRST ............We'll mine other planets later. Mother nature said so.
EXACTLY! and no matter what the problems Guyana has a consciousness - Walter Rodney saw to that. The French Guiana is opposite very colonial, like 1950's US for black america. The crackers there are disgusting, which the french are anyways. Only the devils spawn, would enslave you then charge you for your freedom! white devils indeed!
In the gold rushes in Australia in the late 1800's and early 1900's, very few of the miners made a fortune. The bulk of the money when it was all over went to the equipment suppliers, prostitutes and food suppliers. Lots of the land was also mined by hydrolic sluicing as seen here.
it is interesting to note that the mother country France has a total of 59 nuclear power plant which produces a 1000 times the waste of miners in all south America per year. he docent say that EU stopped buying sugar from small countries which was the back bone of the south Americans y the fuck do they blame poor ppl for global warming this is jus rong some ppl in south America have NEVER seen a television in their lives and mite never will this is a shame on u France u made this happen
Whatever Guyana it is, it is the destruction of nature. ...This is also happening right now in Guyana and this has been going since the 80s in guyana... it is very sad.
It's disgusting to see how people affect that beautiful departement with claiming benefits, making children just for money, illegal mining, thievery, drug trafficking and other devious activities. Unfortunately, some of my fellow Guyanese are one of the groups I'm aiming at. They make up a large part of the inmate population. The police nationale is way too tolerant. And, yes, you are welcome there if your intentions are good. They need a lot of tradesmen there.
I don't understand the French. They're not doing enough to protect their borders in la Guyane. They have the means and the resources. They're not doing much about the influx of people in St.Laurent too. Many lazy illegal aliens come to la Guyane for benifits and child support. In Mana, for example, you see people drinking beer and loitering all day in front of shops. This is a huge burden for the French tax-payers. And the gendarmes too adapted to the laid-back mentality of the local people.
It is so easy for a eurowhimp who buys his gold on High stret in London or Paris to judge half starved trying to dig out a living. In this Video The guy seems to think these brazilian gold miners are worng for just trying to make a living. Interesting How he thinks it is his right to dictate the life of a people half way around the world.
So tired of the same "save the forests" sentiment. Canadian scientists proved that once a tree reaches approx. 50 years old, it actually begins to pollute the atmosphere with carbon dioxide. One could easily argue that the environmentalists' campaign to save old growth forests actually significantly contributes to environmental damage. Forests should be treated like farms. You harvest the mature and plant the young. Damn tree huggers.
about 300 grand....sooooooo peter are you giving back to guyana or you just hoggin all your millions???your a fucking asshole you know how guyana is and still like the fucker you are you dont help even if when you got millions out your ass dude youve been doing it since 1996 isnt it time you gave back to the land that you make so much from..dude dont be gready..dont be a fucking asshole build a school or two..guyana in the future with out its natrual resorses is africa(no offense)change(obama)
You gotta provide an alternative for the people, this will only get worse! Check out the recycling that the 1st World Countries talk about. Eg. Electronics are shipped to poorer countries to do the dirty work - fill their waterways and air with mercury and other toxic stuff - while the 1st World Countries boast of recycling. While it is good to highlight the problems, solutions are hard to come by.

brazilian people have the most responsability for the destruction ...
they come illegaly in F guyana by the raining forest to exploit mass gold and gold washing with mercury
unsupervised border with brazil is the principal problem !
where is french responsability in that problem ?
is not a politic problem, is a problem of border

@jwr1209 "French Guyana aka Surinama" ??? You said that French Guyana is another name for Suriname, but that's incorrect.
There is (1) Guyana,
(2) Suriname (formerly known as Dutch Guiana)
and (3) French Guyana, a French colony.
