LIke I said back in one of the Great Cave Offensive videos, Ice breath does slightly more damage than Fire breath. But with the exception of what JC (Joseph there) said, for all practical purposes, they're useless. But you still have to get pretty close with it, and it doesn't confer invincibility against enemy (or rather, boss) contact. At least, as far as I know.
6:15 - Fire is not useless. If you turn yourself into flambé with fire, you do some HOLY CRAP huge damage! I killed Heavy Lobster in the very first encounter with Fire and Fire alone this one time! Ask Bo! O_O
"It's the Meta-Squad!" Nice one, GM. xD I remember when you called Kirby "Marshmallow Stu" in the Subspace Emissary. (I think it's safe to say that nickname stuck... xDDD)
6:48 No, Waddle Dee. Kirby - or should I say Marshmallow Stu (thanks a lot, GM) - knows exactly where he is going. Hm hm hm...
*insert Lub Lub sound or whatever it was*
NO of the 6:48, it is, it is to walk, Dee. Kirby should be called - or me GM) marshmallow Stu (many appreciation, you have known exactly - he has gone somewhere. Hm of hm of Hm

@JosephCollins That trick is contact-dependent. If a boss slams into you, then YOU take damage as well.

Yeah, I know. But for bosses that have a "take damage" hitbox bigger than their "hurt Kirby" hitbox, it's pretty darn helpful!
