Uhm ndzoko, the book of the Revelation was written before 300 AD by the Apostle John who followed the Lord Jesus and knew Him and His teachings first hand. Do you claim that the souls of the Martyrs are not immortal and in the presence of God in this book? @THOMAS14111983 I didn`t know a story gets more credibility if written or told in another language. A fairy tale in Greec is still a fairy tale. And yes, I studied greec, read the gospels in Greec and also the Odussey. Unfortunately that was more than 60 years ago.
I remember watching this as a kid when it was a mini series on NBC back in the mid 70's. Still one of the best versions around. Since the Tanakh was completed prior to the period under question, its contents are rather irrelevant. I would suggest you refer to scholaship on this period. Whatever one believes of the Christian story, the concept was present long prior to 300 A.D.

Moreover, your claims of an all-powerful hierarchy was something that applied to later medieval Western Christendom but was far from the case in the East or the West prior to the feudal era. Also, the writers I spoke of were bishops and catechists of the church.

Uhm ndzoko, the book of the Revelation was written before 300 AD by the Apostle John who followed the Lord Jesus and knew Him and His teachings first hand. Do you claim that the souls of the Martyrs are not immortal and in the presence of God in this book? The reports about the martyrs of the early christians and the apostles ,have been written down by a bishop Eusebius ( I believe) around 300 AD, We have no reason to believe that Eusebius lied, but since so much time elapsed, one would be wise to take these reports with a pinch of salt.

There is no reason to believe that the average lifespan of people was higher than in the Middle-Ages. I remember watching this as a kid when it was a mini series on NBC back in the mid 70's. Still one of the best versions around. It wasn't until years later that I was told about a small but significant characterisitc in this film. When JESUS is on screen...never to do you see Him blink.
