  • With the strength of G-Glue I really doubt you need all those metal braces, might be able to make it lighter.

  • @xmodalloy

Probably. I just didn't want to take the chance of it collapsing under the tension.

  • That is so cool! I just emailed you asking for the PDF

  • The Uku is by definition a travel instrument. Ah I remember once I went with friends on a bike travel... One guiy had a Uku... We where playing it while riding and singing it was so awesome!

    Good old summer memories...

  • lol @ the guitar strap

  • hi can you send the instructsions in message !!

  • @TheSersify

The instructions are in PDF form. Email is the best way.

  • What do you use for frets?

I've been using flat toothpicks for my cheaper instruments. They're cheap and easy to install.

I might go with a 1/8" plywood top and leave the back open for changing strings.. Like a box-bodied banjo uke.

It sounds like you have some great ideas. This design is well suited for modifications/personalizations.

I used regular fret wire [from Grizzly (dot) com] for this build, but I like the true d.i.y spirit of using something else. As long as the strings are nylon, fret wear shouldn’t be a big issue.

  • This has inspired me to build my own. However, I would like a face on the uke so that I may tap or slap it a little. Do you think this would be an easy modification to what you have built here?

  • @SaltRiverSunshine

I think it would work great with a top piece of wood on it. There would just need to be a way to access the tuners for string replacement. I’d probably use some kind of hinge and/or magnetic strip combination for it. Something that could swing open when needed. It sounds like a fun project. Let me know, if you have any other questions.

  • NICE!
