Hi DuneWorld1, the music for this ad was composed and performed by Anthony and Gaynor Sadler who have written much more besides. They still write tons of stuff for broadcast [Ads, Idents etc] but also music in a more serious vein: check out their Pie Jesu sung by Spirit of the Age. It's on Youtube and kinda interesting.
I've driven a Vauxhall Cavalier 1.7d was bloody slow going uphills almost died of death. I have never driven a Ford Sierra so can't comment on it being r.w.d. On the other hand I do have a Rover and an MG now
In this states, the Cavalier has a very bad repuation of poor quality and are for people of low class and lesser means. I wish we would have recieved this version. It seems like every car made in Europe destined for the states is always ends up crappy after all the regulations are put on.
I know the riff at the end is from Layla, but anyone have an idea who composed the music in the rest of the add. Or any other info about it. Appreciated!
Decent for its time I suppose - If a 20 year old design passes past me and it doesn't look a bit out of place, it is quite well styled. There is a 27 year old sierra down the road and that doesn't look out of place either, looks rather young when it is polished up
On the other hand you could find a Peugeot or Rover of the same age or even younger and it will look a bit tatty
Yeah the pre 306 designs were very boxy and naff looking, well apart from the 205. My best friend still has his 1992 Cavalier 1.4 which he bought in 1994 and actually prefers it to his Jaguar Sovereign! I doubt he will get rid of the Cavalier any time soon. My sister had the Astra 1.4 1990 G reg which had the same engine, and she would have that back in a flash if she could; currently she has the Astra 1.6 SXi late 2002 plate.
"The option of power distribution to all 4 wheels and electronically controlled non-lock brakes will make it virtually impossible to skid"
But then again ladies & gentlemen, if you had wanted any of these features you could have bought yourself a Ford Sierra XR4x4 about 4 years earlier! :)
Best bit about this ad?? It was pulled very swiftly after GM bosses discovered that the 'car of the future' was actually based on a 1950's Ford Concept designed by Alex Tremulus... cock!
Custom car legend Andy Saunders bought the nose cone and finished the car as Ford had intended
The Cav in the ad, which was red at some stage of it's life, lasted until 2004: The vehicle details for F562 OYE are: Date of Liability 01 01 2004 Date of First Registration 01 08 1988 Year of Manufacture 1988 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1796CC CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type Petrol Export Marker Not Applicable Vehicle Status Unlicensed Vehicle Colour RED Vehicle Type Approval null
I have a 250,000 mile 1991 Vectra A - unburstable, just fitted a Weber carb to it as the old Pierburg was pants, giving 42 mpg! Totally reliable, better than the gadget trollies currently on the road
Now now be nice man, the MG Montego Turbo with that O-series 2.0EFI engine was at one point the fastest car in the world for acceleration, seriously check the stats you'll see! I agree the Montego isn't even in the Cavaliers league over all (I know, I've had both:-) but its still a real nice car, just a shame rover didn't make them properly, there are deffinately worse cars than the Montego ever was!! Anything from Korea is a good example:-)
@Regalseven I have owned two reall shit cars and the Montego was one of them. It ruined a blossoming relationship between me and a very tidy Canadian girl.
Great car the MK3 Cavalier, I've had two of them quite a few years ago. A GSI2000 and a Cesaro. Both saloons (which looked more attractive than the hatch).
iv had all the cavs in the range gsi v6 even the gold cdi in the ad and must say i now own a vectra v6 which does not come close to the good old cav one of the best cars ever made for the normal pocket. shit i wat another one but misses wont let me lol
I had a Mk3 Cavalier for years. It was nails -- it never broke down, there was not a speck of rust on it, and it was still happily chugging away with 170,000 miles on the clock when I got rid of it. It finished production in 1995, so the very newest are now 13 years old, but you still see loads of them around.
simple really .... the hatchbacks always sold well so didnt really need any promotion. the saloon on the other hand was a slower seller so they were emphasised in the adverts.
No Carmanifacture would sell a car when they couldnt repair it or make sure its reliable, and lets face it, its end of the 80's, not the 70's, the Cavalier/Vectra was a reliable car, what was futuristic is the design, most carmakers did still make horribly ugly boxes with wheels back then, and Vauxhall did such a car in 1988, which was radical and mindblowing, then the calibra came on which was in 1989 produced less drag then any other production car in the world, it set a Worldrecord!
wow that was a lot of technology in a car in them days... so many things to go wrong!
I bet there was only a very small handful of garages which would be able to run a full diagnostics on it too, making cost a bomb when things went wrong!
vauxhall goes it bang on with this car. its hard to believe its almost 20 years old now. compare ot to the boring rubbish that vauxhall throw out these days (eg. Vectra).
Please reply this if you know what the name of that music is at the VERY end of this video.

The price of a decent mk3 Cavalier is rising at the moment.
I've had mine for 4 months now, bought for £250. I then put £500 into it.
I have recently been offered £1200 for it from a 'Cavalier enthusiast'
If peopl are willing to part with that money now, i'll keep hold of mine a while longer.

True,
I'd rather have a Cavalier than a Sierra.
Sure Cosworth made the Sierra a total nut case on the track and some on the road.
But a base model I would rather choose a Cavalier.

@piuthemagicman RWD is old fashioned in such a sensible car, did you know that the Sierra's AMERICAN counterpart, the Taurus, had FWD?
kernals12 1 month ago
@kernals12 Of course i knew that... But for people who like to tune their cars RWD is the best and Sierra is more fun to drive becauseof the RWD :)
