We don’t get pissed off, especially since we love these bands, but hey, all these comments are just made by a few anxious people that are new to music or fail to see how great music comes from a few sources only– the blues or classical music for example.

It's quite forgivable that you take my rhetorical expression about suing literately. More embarrassing is that you give me a lecture on the concepts of plagiarism without understanding the concept. You confuse plagiarism with making a exact cover and pretending it isn't. Read the Wiki-entry on "Plagiarism" for starters.

@JakeN751 Firstly. As a musician i know more than you will ever now. And secondly, there is no rule saying you can't sound exactly like another band. If for example a guitar sounds a special way NO ONE should be able to use that sound? It's absurd. But if you copy any of the other bands songs THEN it's plagiarism.

If this band sounds like Phoenix and they can't help it, should they quit because of that? I don't think so.

Seriously, it's quite simple: you are correct about the “rule” part, and mistaken about the concept of plagiarism. You may have whatever opinion you like about this band, good or bad, but it is still plagiarism. Borrowing a guitar sound is not even close to entering into the category of plagiarism, don’t be silly.

Of course all band sound similar to other bands in one way or another,, and yes people initially process the arrival of a new band by comparing it to what they already now. But in 99,9% of all cases of people saying "the kind of sound like" there is no plagiarism.
