Great lesson, Afro cuban progressive music on the drum pad! It seems so simple but it is not for the brain, because of the independence or quick ornementations.
Good idea the two sounds on the same pad and well used!
It seems traditional but it's realy a creation of Horacio (invention in basics: the mark of the most powerful genius!).
for people who want to know: the 3-stroke ruff exercise at the end are the accents of rumba clave in 12/8, but every time before the actual accent there is a double stroke, and that's where he uses the 3-stroke ruff as the double stroke(16ths). the last stroke of the ruff is one of the clave accents. The hand sticking is alternating, so once your start with the RH and then with LH. It looks like this ( accents are CAPS): R lr L r lr L rl R lr L r lr and then the same starting with LH.
This rts clave is giving me some headache .. In his left hand, is he doing a 3-2 normal clave or the rumba clave in 12/8..? .. he's right hand is just changing between 8ths and 8th triplets, that i know.. just the left hand im curious..
Yeah, that's not possible if you're not bred into that Latino culture. Even Vinnie can't replicate that. That "hiccup" beat is impossible to replicate for us Americans/Canadians, etc. That's just bred into the culture. It's Amazing to hear!
that is the dumbest, most ignorant statement a human being has every made. Atleast you'll be the first at one thing in your life, loser.@kirk7524875248
@TheGoliathsound Hey, I'm sorry that I pissed you off so badly. I was just speaking about cultural influence and how that affects one's feel for music. Stewart Copeland talked about this same thing. Anyway, I didn't mean anything untoward about anyone. I appreciate everyone and all music! For your sake, I tried to delete my comment, but that is apparently not possible. I hope you will forgive me for any ill feelings you may have toward my comment. Peace.
Horacio = newest drumming Mentor, and I highly recommend listening to him and using his advice. Not since Dennis Chambers got into my head has my drumming seen such a boost. I am a Disciple, fo sho. Wait until you try playing the 6/8 clave on the first 1/4 note and then the 4/4 clave on the second 1/4, etc. That starts to hurt my head muscle! THANKS HQ, for the Video, and THANKS EL NEGRO, FOR DOING IT!!!!
